Tests and Trials Game Thread

"Wasn't trying to say you weren't! Just think it's fair that if we're asking Ernos questions, he can ask questions too. Are you free to come up, or should we come to you? If you're busy, I suppose we can wait. Anyone checked on the weather outside today?"

"I can come back up if you are doing the spell now. The weather is cloudy with a slight breeze. There was heavy drifting from last night's snowfall."

She will return to the room after a few minutes should Kroshav answer in the affirmative.

"Yes, I think we're all ready up here."

Once she arrives, he'll have everyone taking part get within a 30ft diameter area and cast the spell.

"I am Kroshav Xjindraakvar, a prov.. provi... an almost full paladin of The Five. That wasn't me trying to lie, I just don't remember how to say that word right."

"I'll now try to say something that is untrue. Ummm..."

"Charlie is a horse, and so am -- so am --"

When Kroshav tries to say that he is also a horse, nothing comes out of his mouth but his tongue as he makes a slight gagging face, like a cat bringing up a hairball. Fortunately everyone is spared the wet gagging sounds.

"Provi...  Provisional?  Meaning you are considered a paladin now, but have to prove you should stay one?  Well, regardless.  I am Ernos Salian, contractor of an efreeti...  As for a falsehood, though I am loathe to speak one...  The sky is the colour -"

After failing to speak, jaw locked, the tiefling nods, "What do you wish to know?"

"Yeah, that's the word. I got four out of five votes, plus a bonus one, but the fifth thought I was too prideful, and I need to show them I'm not in order to get approved."

"Have you met Gethren before the other day, or dealings with any other undead or servants of Orcus?"

The Librarian offers her own simple truth that she loves her library and falsehood that she finds books indexing other books to be the most... And is unable to continue.

"I've no good dealings with any affiliated to demons or undead of any sort.  Not even heard of this Gethren until yesterday, either.  How did you get a god to say you were too prideful?  Don't recall a good man who wasn't proud to be doing good."

"I should be more humble, but find it hard sometimes. I thought I was going to be a blacksmith, so being able to be a warrior of the gods was a big change I'm not quite used to. No good dealings with devils either? Any bad dealings with undead or fiends?"

Cladmir listened to the conversation with full attention and mentally sided with Ernos.  Truly if Kroshav could have pride that would be because how he took pride in all the noble deeds he must have done.

Cladmir won't just volunteer to say anything of course unless asked.

"Pride and humility aren't opposites.  Excessive pride is, perhaps...  Don't believe yourself better than others, and you are humble.  Be glad that you are able to do well, and you are proud.  Though, I suppose being proud and prideful are not necessarily the same, even if you are proud to be doing good."

Ernos scratches his head, "Forgot devils and demons were different things.  No good will with them either.  Might have accidentally made bad will, I've fought monsters and bandits on my contractor's behalf.  Unlikely anything like a fiend would care about that, though."

Jaq listens, sitting cross-legged on the ground.  He nods and smiles on occasion, but stays quiet.

The Librarian remains quiet as well, curling into a tight coil as she listens.

((Bump?))

"Thanks. Did you want to ask another question?", Kroshav says to Ernos. "I can go again if you don't."

"Hmm...  Why is it you are so protective of your fallen friend?  An honourable decision, I approve, but you risk yourself for one in the hands of the gods already.  Would he be appreciative?"

"Gethren deals in undead. Lurn ... was a cleric of- of- a god that doesn't like when things that should be dead aren't. Not Kevin, but sort of sounds like that. I'm NOT turning him over to someone who could bring him back as something against everything he believes in! I don't know if Lurn would want to be brought back whole, but I can't do that, but I know he wouldn't want to come half back as some sort of tool of a necromancer!"

Kroshav gets pretty heated by the end, smoke drifting from his nostrils. He neglects to ask a follow up of his own.

Ernos nods, "A worthy cause.  You are worth trusting as a comrade, as one who will face danger for his allies.  None are easier to put faith in."

The Librarian helpfully, and quietly, adds,

"Kelemvor."

Cladmir is even more impressed by Kroshav sense of duty and honor!

Kroshav gradually calms down a bit.

"You say you work for an efreeti. Has your boss ever asked or forced you to do something that went against your own beliefs?"
