Tests and Trials Game Thread

"Likely the duration of winter, then to wherever the winds or my genie patron take me."

Beryl inspects the various individuals around the fire before giving a slight nod and saying,

"Very well. I grant you leave to return to the slopes in the morning. I will be vigilant for undead."

She stretches her wings and calls out in draconic,

"Keep on the trail."

The kobold and goblins all rise and move quickly, none seem to really know exactly where they should be going though as a pair of kobolds collide in their haste to move.

The green dragon then looks to those near the fire for any words before she departs.

Jaq takess a really close look at Beryl.  How old or mature does he think she is?

"Thank you. Is there something else you are hunting we should be on the look out for?", Kroshav asks when returning to the trail is commanded.

"Trouble makers, a minor nuisance."

She snakes her head to Kroshav,

"Are you offering to assist?"

Kroshav gets a scent of fresh blood and something caustic on her breath.

"I think we should be leaving in the morning, just wondered if we were in danger from whatever it is."

Cladmir silently wonders what a dragon with stranger followers could need assistance with, but he kept his mouth shut and stayed close to Kroshav.

"No danger to you. Have a pleasant night and stay in my woods. I expect I will be seeing you all again."

With that she leaps away into the night and the sounds from the forest fade away.

Ernos rubs at the bridge of his nose, "A dragon, of all things.  We're lucky to be given leave to stay."

"This isn't still a dream, is it? I was having a weird one."

Kroshav pinches himself.

"Ouch."

As people pinch themselves, oddly, Jaq thinks about the dragon he just met. She was definitely not young, but he wouldn't think she is an adult yet? Probably much younger than he is, at most a century, maybe two. Also, he knows that dragons of all sorts are not welcome in the Duchy since the incident that resulted in the Duchy losing a chunk of land to dragonborn serving dragons in the south. He doubts the Duchy would tolerate a metallic dragon, let alone a chromatic, if anyone in authority had caught wind of her.

Neither Jaq nor Cladmir get a good sense of Beryl before she leaves, Kroshav, more adept at reading snouts and brow ridges, gets a sinking suspicious she's up to something. Sword agrees, and suggests he kill her next chance he gets. Eula offers her own counterpoint of,

Ernos watches Beryl flap up and away and then the dark sky a while after, knowing she has now got a plan that includes them. Also, knowing green dragon's reputation, he suspects said plan is going to benefit only her and cost him and the rest. He was also able to glean that she was not happy to hear about undead roaming around her forest.

The exact details of the dragon's plan aren't clear but given the little they shared with her, he would guess she is going to keep an eye on them.

<You're just saying that because she didn't try to eat you.>, Kroshav thinks at Ealu.

<It might come to that, but if she's out here hunting for Gethren and his minions, so much the better.>, he thinks to Sword.

Cladmir,  not really seeing much in the dark, not noticing anything about the dragon except that it was a *dragon*, and feeling the cold now that he has been out of the sleeping bag for a bit and the adrenaline rush has passed, simply asked, to no one in particular, 

"So... what was that all about?"

"Trouble is what.  Chromatics are bad news at the best of times.  This one is cunning.  She is not fond of the undead, but that does not make us allies."

"Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on in the dragon brain, but I'm sure she has something thought up for us.   We will have to try to figure out a way back to our...lair, with somehow keeping her from knowing exactly where it's location is.  Any idea how to do that?"

"And what was going on when we first met this group?   Were the goblins hunting down the bugbears for the dragon?   There must be some weirdness with that whole mess."
