"I have a few ideas."

The group take a long rest.

When they hear the dragon leave to hunt the next morning they make their way to its lair. At the top of the hill stands a round tower with a cottage attached. Both are in good condition, although half of the tower’s roof is gone. A door leads into the cottage, and several arrow-slit windows are visible in the tower. They can’t help but notice an eerie quiet in the area and a strange, acrid smell in the air.

The corpses of two hideous giant spiders are sprawled near the edge of the pathway, apparently dragged there. Their bloated bodies are puckered and blistered, and appear to have been mauled by a large animal, namely the dragon. They head inside. 

The cottage contains dusty furniture draped in webbing, but nothing of value. They move through and head to the tower; a single room with a 40-foot-high ceiling. A 5-foot-wide staircase circles the interior, rising to the now-opened rooftop that allows the dragon easy access to its new home. Heavy wooden beams and stair supports crisscross the tower interior.

 Seeing evidence of the dragons horde strewn on the ground Blink moves toward it.

 "Leave it be!" Kara orders.

"We want to surprise the beast and you can be damned sure it will notice if we move its treasure."

 Blink finds a large stone missing in part of the wall and scrambles into the gap. 

She readies her bow. 

Stealth 25

 Kara sets her hunting trap beneath a blanket that lies in the centre of the room.

She then hides in the entrance to the cottage readying her crossbow.

Stealth 7

 Griell crouches next to Kara.

The glaive lies at her feet and she readies her hand axes.

Stealth 13

 Melandra uses the staff to cast Mage Armour on herself.

Then climbing the steps to reach the top of the tower she rituals cast alarm around the open roof. Setting it to silently warn them all as the dragon enters the tower. She then climbs back down and crouches beneath the stairwell.

Stealth 18

 Vishka hides beneath the stair well and tucks herself beneath an old blanket.

She focuses herself ready to cast bless and spiritual weapon when the alarm sounds and Melandra nudges her.

19 Stealth

 Reidoth wild shapes into a dire wolf and waits in the cottage.

The day passes by as the group ready themselves and try their level best to hide themselves in the dragons lair. The just as the sun begins to dip over the opening at the top of the tower they hear the distant roar of the dragon. It is still almost two hours before the beat of huge wings can be heard approaching and then suddenly a shadow passes over the tower roof. Another roar, another brief passage of shadow and then a rush of air as the enormous beast drops in to land.

 The dragon lands and the hunters trap goes off.

DEX 24 It is crushed by the dragons weight.

 Blink looses an arrow.

 Melandra casts scorching ray

 Blink fires another arrow and tries to hide again.

 Kara fires her crossbow and takes cover

She prepares to protect Griell with her shield.

 Griell throws both of her hand axes.

Attack: 19 Damage: 2

 Seeing herself now exposes Melandra casts misty step.

She appears in the entrance to the cottage and runs inside to join Reidoth.

 Reidoth growls, waiting to attack once the melee starts.

 Vishka casts bless on herself Griell and Kara.

 The dragon releases a roar of anger.

"Who dares attack me?" (In draconic)

Darting forward is releases it poisoned breath into the entrance to the cottage for 37 damage.

 CON 13 plus 4

 CON 11

 Kara avoids much of the damage, but is still badly hurt.

 Griell is almost taken out by the attack but manages to stay conscious.

Round 3 8 vs 12

 Breath 6 does not recharge.

The dragon bites and claws at Vishka

 Vishka is unconscious and bless is dropped.

 Blink fires again from the shadows above.

Stealth 23

 Kara takes a deep breath and charges out.

She surges forward and attacks again Attack: 18 Damage: 7

She takes care to cover Griell with her shield.

 Griell follows suit.

Attack: 12 Damage: 5

Attack: 15 Damage: 6

 Seeing that things are desperate Melandra runs back out.

She kneels to give Vishka a potion of healing restoring 7 on the dwarf. She then moves aside and casts fire bolt up at the dragon Attack: 21 Damage: 5

 Reidoth charges out and attacks the dragon.

Attack: 8 Damage: 11

 Still groggy Vishka cast prayer of healing and gets to her feet.

Round 4 : 9 vs 21

  Breath 4

 The dragon looks around wildly for where the arrows are coming from but can not see Blink.

With a roar it tries to bite Kara Attack: 18 Damage: 13

and claws out at Melandra twice Attack: 22 Damage: 14 and Attack: 23 Damage: 13

 Melandra raises her staff and casts shield

The dragons claws rake against her magical barrier.

 Blink fires and arrow and ducks out of sight.

Srealth 19

 Kara attacks with Talon.

Attack: 23 Damage: 7 and guard Griell with her shield.

 Griell swings her glaive.

Attack: 16 Damage: 13

 Melandra casts magic missile.
