Anders casts sleep again for 16 HP

The second creature collapses to the ground in a deep sleep.

 Elandra chops the sleeping creatures up one by one as they sleep.

By the time she is done she if covered from head to toe in Ankheg gore.

"Creatures are called Ankhegs. They burrow and can feel vibrations. Not sure what would have brought them here."

 "Will there be more?"

 "Probably. Just dont let them spit their acid at you."

 "Yeah, I got that. Thanks."

 "We should look for survivors."

 "Especially if we want to get paid."

 "Anders!"

 "What?"

Feldoran leads the group up to the northern camp. They find a dead campfire surrounded by six tents, each containing a bedroll and a mess kit. Further inspection reveals that the tents and bedrolls have been partially dissolved by some kind of acid spray. Footprints and strange marks in the sand suggest several humanoids were attacked here and dragged away.

 "This does not look good."

 "It looks like the workers were killed and dragged down into the sand by these Ankhegs."

 "That tracks. Ankhegs collapse their tunnels behind them, leaving no way to follow."

 "No survivors then?"

 "Not here anyway. Let's keep moving."

They make their way to the centre of the loggers camp where a ruined cabin sits. All that remains of this cabin is a ruined fireplace whose chimney has mostly collapsed.

 "A stone foundation. The ankhegs can’t burrow through here."

Feldoran notices something amiss with the fireplace and moves forward to take a closer look. He finds a totem buried in its debris: thirteen tiny, androgynous stick figures dipped in blood, inscribed with tiny lightning bolt symbols, and tied together in a bundle with hair. Picking it up with a piece of rag he tosses it to land at Thomas' feet.

"What do you make of that? Looks like bad joojoo."

 Thomas crouches down to examine the things.

"A Shamans totem designed to bring ill fortune to all who reside near it. I imagine it was planted here and it drew in the Ankhegs."

 "What should we do with it?"

 "Destroy it if we can."
