Matilda finds neither traps nor secrets – just a well-decorated, ornate hallway.
Ben finds the doors are unlocked, and swing easily. They open onto a small balcony looking out into a large rectangular courtyard, open above to the twilit sky. The courtyard has no visible floor; instead, a vortex of dark clouds churns below, roiling, rumbling, and softly roaring – the source of the noise Ben had heard. A marble tower rising from the maelstrom is encircled by about seven turrets. At least three stone staircases extend from the outer areas of the palace to the tower, each one part of a buttress that spans the void and stabilizes the tower.
(Ben's view of the far side of the courtyard is blocked by the massive marble tower.)
Stepping back it to the hallway so others can look, Ben says, “It looks like we will need to keep heading west to get to the tower room so we can access the staircase.”
He moves to the door at the western end of the hallway and opens it once the others have done their looking.

The door to the west also opens easily. Peering in, Ben sees that the walls of the circular chamber beyond are decorated with sculpted reliefs depicting humans and demons partaking in grotesque revels. A spiral staircase with a golden handrail rises from the middle of the room. A straight staircase leads northeast.
The party continues to explore the palace. Titaani, Ben, and Matilda lead the way up a flight of stairs, up into one of the windowless central turrets.
The chamber they discover is empty, other than an enameled green coffer resting on a wrought-iron pedestal in the middle of the room.
Pud can't help but gawk at what he's seeing. He follows the group across the bridge. He stops, stands up on his toes and leans over to take a peek. Then he looks up to see what's above.
DM: Are we in an open courtyard with clear view of the sky? Or is there a ceiling above?

"Oh my goodness, it's a gem! And it's so pretty! We could turn this into jewellery!" Titaani squeals excitedly, picking up the gem. "What do you think?" She turns to Matilda and positions the jewel on her chest, and then on her neck. "Would it be better as a brooch, or a necklace?"
Ben:
Whispering back, Ben says, “I hear something behind this door. I’ll open it when we are ready.”
He waits for Matilda to do her rounds first, should she wish to go to a different door or something else. When all are ready, he opens the door.

”Shall we head up the stairs to the central tower?” suggests Ben, gesturing towards the standard staircase leading northeast.

"Sounds good!" Titaani replies cheerfully, leading the way with Tiny by her side. "I can't wait to meet the queen! I hope we find her soon."
Matilda nods to Ben and begins heading up.

"Oooh, what's in this thing?" Titaani asks curiously, moving to open the coffer.
(The staircase you ascend is open air, extending over part of the Court of Storms, but the initial hall and the circular tower you traversed are enclosed with ceilings. The Court of Storms has no ceiling – nor floor, that you can see. It is open to the sky, as is this staircase.)
Matilda moves next to Titaani, and checks the coffee itself for traps before allowing her sister to try opening it.

The enameled green coffer shows no signs of trickery. Opening it, Titaani finds a faintly glowing, plum-sized jewel of green crystal.

Titaani concludes that the fat, faintly glowing, green jewel would indeed make either a gorgeous brooch or a stunning necklace.
