"Sure I'll get them back Dimitri! Thank you very much for your words" smiles brightly Khessa - she did not expect so much empathy from this man so... seemingly hardened by life. "And also sure I'll make them pay! In fact, some of them did already. The original owner of this, for example," she shows her spellbook - a black heavy tome with bizzare web-like decoration and arcane runes on the cover "was the wizard of the gang of slavers. And he did not part with it of his own free will! Nor he will ever be able to try getting it back. You know, it seems I took his breath away..." she winks "We were alone. He thought I was tied to the wrists. But he was wrong. I jumped on him before he even knew what was going on. And he has found that it is not easy to cast spells with a rope tightly tightened around the neck. It felt good! With time, the others will join him".
Dimitri had to look at Khessa again in a new light as she mentioned her endeavor. Took his breath away. So she had what it took to do what was necessary. He chuckled, a low, husky sound. "Keep that up," he said, "And I'll begin to like you."
He turned to the buttons again and looked at Hadi. "Let's try the third button. Easier to figure out what to do when we know all the information."
Dimitri, you instruct Hadi to push the third button, which is actually just the rod. His mage hand grabs the rod and pushes. As it does, you hear the sound of stone moving once again, followed by the sound of moving water, but you don't instantly notice any changes. The sound seems to be coming from below, similar to the second button.
”Something happened down there. I don’t recall hearing water before. Secret passage?”
T’bitha follows the group downstairs to see what just occurred. She looks around the room to see what, if anything, has changed to make the sound of running water heard.
Khessa also is curious to see what happened and goes downstairs, leading the way, if the others allow, to be the first in the way of eventual enemies. She still relies on the bright blade of her greatsword to see.
You all make your way back down the stairs, as you reach the bottom you notice the chamber has about a foot of water in it currently. Water seems to be flowing out of two passages that have opened. One behind the sarcophagus and the other behind the altar. You see a single pedestal behind each of these passages spewing water. Both pedestals have a decorated urn sitting on them. The water doesn't seem to be slowing down however, and it's rising at a quick pace. The decaying corpse that was impaled by the spears remains in the middle of the room.
Khessa points out: "I have no idea how high the water could get ... we could drown or it could damage the urn. I'll press the button again, hoping to restore the state of the room. Then we decide what to do. We can check the corpse. to see if we find clues as to which urn is the right one. Or we can remain ready to tamper with both urns. Anyway, we will reopen the passages when we have a plan".
And with that, unless someone with better ideas stops her or tells her otherwise, the blonde aracne warrior hurries up the stairs and presses button 3.
”No, I know what the urn looks like, but I cannot tell this far away. I need to get closer. If you close those doors, the urns will be locked away. I have to get closer.
T’bitha looks at Khessa, Tristan, Dimitri and Hadi. ”It’s the only way. I just hope that when I pick up the urn, it doesn’t trigger something else. We have no time to bicker about it. The room is flooding.”
The Drow drops her armor and weapons until she is just wearing her clothes to reduce weight in case she has to swim back. She begins to wade through the water, bee-lining it to the urns to determine which one is the correct one.
Khessa mutters: "Yet another idea that reeks of suicide" but stops, fetches a rope from her backpack and throws one end of it to the Eilistraee priestess (holding in her own hand the other end) "Keep it! If things go wrong I try to help you out! And remember that Hadi can mage-hand the right urn, if only you point it out, maybe it's less risky".
Khessa, all of a sudden, has a terrible suspect: "Someone goes to the buttons, anyway, please! The water would be a lame trap... unless getting the wrong urn blocks the exit! And we know that button one reopens it! So, please, Tristan, or Dimitri, I'd feel safer if one is at the buttons. (Or even safer if Dimitri is able to temporary block the mechanism that closes the stairs passage)".
T'bitha bee-lines it for the urns, unfortunately, taking the most direct route means you wade through the water over the spot the spears use to be. I'll be a nice DM and say the water isn't high enough yet to cause disadvantage on your save, so please give me a dexterity saving throw, T'bitha, as you hear the spears release and begin to launch upwards towards you.

If things go wrong I try to help you out! And remember that Hadi can mage-hand the right urn, if only you point it out, maybe it's less risky".
“Good idea, Khessa!” T’bitha yells out over the cascading water filling the room. She grabs the rope thrown to her and fully intends to point the right urn to Hadi and Khessa so they can use their magic to pull it. She continues to wade through the water across the flooding room until she gets closer to the urns, You’re really putting yourself out there, T’bitha. I’m not asking for a death wish. I’m the only one that knows what that darned urn looks like. It just better be one of those urns.”
Khessa watches in horror as the drow cleric risks to get impaled by the trap.
I should have reminded her of that!
In the concitation, nobody seems to go for the buttons so Khessa for good measure quickly attempts to jam up the plate that covers the stairs with some of the elven steel she had got from the construct.
After that, she darts back down to be able to help T'bitha in case of trouble and tells her: "If you can not decide between the two, remember that the altar had a writing on it. Maybe the sarcophagus has one too. No idea if it can help..."
T'bitha, you remember at the last moment about the spears trap, and manage to jump out of the way only taking half damage. You take 1 piercing damage. (this should already be halved, hover over the roll to make sure. It should show 2d6/2). As you approach the urns, and take a better look at them both, they are identical. Both urns are identical to each other, both on opposite sides of the room from each other, how would you like to continue?
(OOC: The forums seem to have bugged out with your save, causing it to show manipulated, but there is no last edited note on it. I've seen a handful of these events in a few of the games I've been following on the forum. It seems to happen if the forum stutters while confirming your post)
If Khessa thinks she has successfully jammed up the plate, she says: "Guys... what about simply mage-hand both of them and get out? I think the stairs can not close behind us, at the moment. But we can have Tristan ready at button one for good measure. Hadi and Dimitri can mage-hand the urns. I can help T'bitha out (AVOID THE SPEAR TRAP, of course!). And we go. Outside we can examine the two urns all day long, if needed; the trap can not possibly flood the whole forest. Or someone wants to try something different?"
((OOC- I show a 20. 16+4. I can re-roll in game log if you wish to validate for you))
”By Lloths cursed fangs! Did we reset that spear trap?!” T’bitha jumps back as one of the spears gashes her right leg. As she gets closer and notices that both urns are exactly the same she shakes her head and curses under her breath. Shoot! Not good.
She closes her eyes and says a silent prayer to Eilistraee, hesitating in the middle of the room before an idea enters her mind. She turns around and yells back to Hadi, ”Hadi, I think the correct urn is behind the altar where the trusted one was laying. Use your magic to pull it. I’m going to pull the urn behind the sarcophagus, just in case!”
T’bitha wades to the the other side of the room near the sarcophagus and waits for Hadi to cast his mage hand spell so they can pull the urns off at the same time. Eilistraee…
In the sudden chaos Hadi sends his mage hand over towards the other urn to see if he's able to lift it, trying to say at a safe distance. Though he'll wait until T'bitha is about to grab their urn just in case grabbing one will set off a trap.
T’bitha sees Hadi’s mage hand float over to the altar’s urn. She nods to Hadi and they both pull the urns at the same time. T’bitha turns and sloshes quickly back to the party.
Tristan raises a hand in warning "Careful! Taking the wrong Urn may trigger a trap! I suggest that you cast that same spell that allows you to see magic, Hadi, to check for illusions that mask the correct urn."
Frowning, he continues "It worries me how wise it is to take this urn. If my people sealed it here with Ambriel, they must have had good reason. I hope we are not making a huge mistake"
