Meanwhile down in the basement Sorsha hasn't quite given up on trying to make the thieves come out and surrender. "All right, last chance, we have all the exits covered so if you don't want to be buried down there real soon you'd better come up peacefully right now!"She shouts down the tunnel, then using her magic to create the sizzling sound of another bomb to make her point. (Minor Illusion for the sound)
Intimidation: 10 Another roll if the sizzling sound gives advantage: 20
“I don’t know that we have paperwork with us, but you can speak to the wizard Irongrass. He tasked us with finding Abernath.”
the guard responds, “ I don’t deal with the accursed Wizards. If you are opperatin under the 3rd ship, there should be a letter of mark, demonstrating your allowed…an sine your operating in the zone of authority of the 4th ship, you will owe a…umm a tax. Payable to me self. “ he holds out his hand, waiting.

Sorsha is closely surveying the basement, certain there wasn’t time for all the bandits to escape. Suddenly she notices on of the danger marked barrel wiggle a little. Then the lid comes flying off as Pepe leaps from the barrel, swinging his sword at her
Attack: 4 Damage: 6
and he misses badly, striking one of the other barrels instead, some weird substance begins to leak from it
Sorsha summons a new tentacle of the deep that rises out of the floor and immediately starts attacking the clumsy thief. Tentacle: 9 Cold: 8 -10 feet movement next turn
If Vars doesn’t see any evidence upstairs (which he probably doesn’t considering all the other things he’s missed today) he will run back downstairs. When he hears Sorsha’s voice, he rushes down to help her.
”Blast, why didn’t I check those barrels?” He shook his head. “It was such an obvious hiding place!”
Hearing Sorsha down below, "Be right there!" Sparhawk runs downstairs. He grabs his new metal mesh net, sure that with his training in multiple weapons, this will be an easy way to catch someone. When given the chance, he will try to trap (Pepe), unless someone else springs up.

The tentacle swings and misses Pepe as he dances out of the way with a flourish. You notice there is a weirdly colored powdery substance all over his trousers
"I got one!" Sorsha calls out to the others upstairs and makes a quick stab with her thin-bladed dagger at the thief. Dagger: 17 Piercing: 6
Sorshas dagger catches Pepe in the ribs as he dodges the slimy tentacle of the deep. Suddenly his cocky look drops from his face. His blood begins to mingle with the powder covering his clothing and he begins screaming…horrifying, loud screaming. Pepe frantically tries to brush himself off and rubs up against the barrel he sliced into previously. That black substance sloshes onto him and mixes with his blood and the powder.
a rainbow colored smoke begins to pour from his skin as he screams even louder. Black tendrils spring from the dagger wound, replacing the blood.
"You listenin'?" Bjorn points to his ear, as if the guard doesn't understand Common. "The Cap'n handles the finances. Talk to her."
Then Sorsha's voice comes up the stairs. "Speaking of which..."
“ Not my problem, your the one I caught in the act…it means your the one to pay…or not. Then all of you will go to the dungeon and await the judgment of the 4th…He don’t take kindly to other ships operations in his small area of responsibility, get me drift?”

Sparhawk enters the basement just in time to see the horror unfold. His ears are battered by the horrifying screams of agony as Pepe seems to be either transforming into something weird or is being consumed from within by something weird. Sorshas tentacle writhes around and seems to be getting some of that substance on itself.

Vars comes down the hall towards the kitchen and see Bjorn and Eberk discussing things with the guard, the guards hand is out in the international sign of pay up or else. He can hear the blood curdling scream coming from the basement and can smell some foul scent coming up through the floorboards. ( you can make it to the kitchen)
Seeing the unfortunate Pepe, Sparhawk changes his plan. “We need to leave this place.” Assuming Pepe is now not thinking of defense, Sparhawk will try to put him out of his misery by crushing his head in with the dwarves hammer hoping to kill him with one blow.
If Pepe is becoming a monster of some sort, he will start to back off as he’s in no condition for a fight.

"What is with this town?" Bjorn mutters. "Fine, alright, sure. Butterman kept a secret stash behind the painting upstairs. [The trapped one.] Should be enough to cover your fees. Now, am I going to have to hold your hand so you don't get lost, or can I go see what the screaming is about?"

“ I will wait here for you to get it for me…I ain’t dumb enough to wander about in the Infernal’s home…you would have to be a fool.” He smirks as he says this and adds,
“ the associated costs go up if this takes any longer, it getting harder to ignore the screams from the basement…”

Eberk takes a few steps and makes sure he is standing on the trap door to block another escape attempt.
"Right, a tax. And how much might this tax be?"
Eberk watches the guard closely, trying to surmise if the guard is being truthful about the tax and the amount he suggests.
