Seeing Eberk pay the guard Sorsha gives him a nod and an appreciative smile, then looking quickly around and motioning for the rest of the team to come along. "I think we should heed the guards advice and get out of the city right away through the north gate. Perhaps you could take on a new appearance Bjorn and get our mule and cart from the Cutlass and we'll meet you outside the city." She says with a firm voice, marching quickly away from Abernath's house and the Pepe-creature soon devouring the neighbourhood.
"Good idea," Vars says to Sorsha. "I wish I could say Irongrass would have our back if this went south, but I don't make a habit of trusting people I met only once. And I don't think Fist would be to happy with us either." He glares at the guard, "Not that I really think it matters to you, but whoever it was that teleported to the Tower was one of these bandits. Blast, I knew there were two left." He shakes his head, "If I were you, once this is all over, I would have that man apprehended. Of course, we leave that decision in your capable hands."
Without waiting for the guard's response, he follows Sorsha out, making sure the rest of their party is coming as well. There was no use in trying to talk their way out of this one. The best thing to do would be move on with their mission to capture the Bugbear. Besides, doing so would likely give them more answers than interrogating these sorry bandits--not that there was anyone left to interrogate anymore...
Bjorn nods and splits off to swing by the inn. After a minute or so of walking, he shifts his disguise to the guard boss, with the broom as his spear, and takes a moment here and there to catcall women, insult children, shove older people, and generally be a nuisance as he goes. He doesn't slow down or stop, though. He shifts back to his real face as he reaches the inn.
As they head out of town, Sparhawk contemplates his reaction to the bandits and to the crocked "guards." He does not like being bullied and manipulated by others. He realizes he will soon be taking an oath and the direction of his pathway is becoming much clearer. Perhaps an oath of vengence.....he thinks. He hopes to get some sleep soon, he is beat up and exhausted. Let's see what a new day brings.

Bjorn makes it back with the cart and gear and meets up with you as you are crossing the Northbridge gate. From the distance you can see glimpses of magic. Explosions, sparkles, lightening even. You can see tentacle Pepe above the buildings, grown quite large….just as you clear the gate in the darkening sky you see a solitary cloud appear over the creature and a wide, bright shaft of light streaks down, encompassing the entirety of the monster. A few moments later is goes dark again and silent. It seems the wizard apprentices have passed their test.
you make it a ways from the gate and find a good spot to camp off of the road and out of easy view.
Overnight your exhausted bodies heal and you have remarkable dreams you can’t quite remember in the morning. You wake up refreshed, rejuvenated and feeling more…powerful
Sitting by the fire and having her breakfast after taking the last watch of the night in the wilds Sorsha nods and smiles as the rest of the crew wake up. "So, I should have said this yesterday but we had a little hasty retreat out of Luskan. The investigation of Abernath's home turned out quite chaotic but all in all I think we did a good job in there, so well done everyone." She says with a smile looking to the rest of the crewmembers in turn. "Hope you're feeling better there Sparhawk, you were very brave in there and I fear we will need more of that before long." She turns and says to the half-orc. "Perhaps we should simply try to learn more about the wizard and his connection to Bernard before we report back to Irongrass. So now let's focus on finding this Bernard." She says to the others, looking around for their opinions.
"I would agree that Bernard is our best lead at this point. However, I think as a group, our planning and communication is sorely lacking. It caused a fair bit of our problems at the wizard house."
"Take the spy across the street for example. You said it would be a good idea that we sneak up on the guy. With now further discussion we had people charging out the door. No plan on how to approach, no informing other members of the group. Because of that, the following chase was a cluster and he got away. Which then led to us being attacked."
"Ah, Sorsha, a good morning to you." Sparhawk has taken some time to polish his armor, sharpen his sword, and generally clean himself up. He has a clean black cloak/ cape attached to the shoulders of his armor. He seems changed somehow. A bit darker and less cheerful.
He unconsciously strokes cat Frangi (Picture Doctor Evil). he is lost in thought.
He glances up.
"I agree Eberk, we need to work better as a group and not spread ourselves so thin. It exposes us to a great deal of trouble."
"Oh, I picked up some coin from those bandits and also these two vials. Not sure what they are, maybe healing potions, or poison?"
Vars nods to Eberk, though he doesn’t remark on their lack of teamwork.
“I agree that we should just go after Bernard, I wanted to tell Irongrass what we found in hopes of getting some help or at least a small reward. However, considering that the Tower had to step in to solve the…mutant problem… I think it’s wise to just head on out.”
Bjorn rolls over and grumbles, "we obviously had a plan, we just..." He pauses, trying to frame the problem in a way that makes him look smart, even if it means bending the truth and blaming everyone else. "We just didn't all stick to the plan that I had." He groans, pulling his cover back over himself to block out the sun.
"Bjorn, what the guard did was unacceptable. We are trying to help this poor wizard and this town. We tried to protect the townsfolk who were approaching."
"You did your best holding your ground with this idiot." Sparhawk strokes Frangi with his gauntleted hand, unconsciously as he continues.
"People who think they are entitled and can bully others for their greedy means are people who should be admonished."
"My goddess was trying to help me learn something yesterday."
He grabs his holy symbol and looks up, a smile on his broken nosed face, clarity and passion in his steel blue eyes.
"I have done some praying and have taken an oath my friends. My resolve is strong, my purpose clear."

Now screams can be heard from the neighboring houses as people open their windows and see what the fuss is going on.
Eberk tosses the guard a pouch with 10 gold. "Let's go. I need a drink."
the guard accept s the pouch the rest put away the manacles and nets.
“ good luck. Better hurry, I am not sure how the Wizards will be traveling “
they then turn their attention to the the creature. Backing up and forming up to try and damage or contain it.
"Gods above..." Bjorn stares at the monster, as he leaves the scene alongside Eberk.
"What kind of pickles were those?"

( Sorry, currently getting my arse kicked by Covid. Lets assume Frangipani is just hanging on to Sparhawk for dear life at the moment.)
