"I see," Vars says, now very confused at what this has to do with the lost temple. "So who were the younglings who found the temple in the first place? And these powerful Harpells can't do anything about the issue themselves?" Feeling generous, Vars hand Mad two more gold coins. "I've found this conversation quite intriguing. I will have to investigate this if my crew ends up passing through Longsaddle."
“ ahhh, the young heroes are part of a farmers coop. This is their year to handle the sales for the coop, in fact you might even get a chance to meet them as they are currently bringing livestock’s and other supplies to sell in Mirabar. They are driving the livestock there, boy wouldn’t they have been better off with this gadget. They could have made the trip in two days, ahh ha heh…The Harpells are very powerful…and rich. Why get dirty yourself if you can support the local economy by hiring others to go in. Besides, no telling what they will run into in that sort of place…thank you kindly for your support of the local economy, it’s about time for the caravan to get rolling again, we don’t want to get caught in the snow”
he shakes your hand and begins to gather his things
Sparhawk looks over all weapons and equipment present to make sure it’s in excellent working order. If time left, he will also examines the cart making sure it’s in good shape
Vars shakes his hand firmly, "And thank you for the information. I have no wish to hold you up, but if you don't mind, I have one last question--unrelated to long saddle, but still...You haven't by any chance seen a bugbear heading towards Mirabar have you?"
Investigation as Sparhawk makes sure cart in good shape. 17
The cart seems to be in good working order and all your supplies are intact and still there. In a corner of the cart you find a small, crudely sculpted figure made from what you hope is mud..
the head is almost perfectly round and the eyes are real human eyes one green and one brown. When you move about the eyes of the thing follow you

“ Bugbears? No, don’t reckon I have seen any of those nasty fellas down this way. They are known to be around once you get closer to Mirabar. There are a few clans that live in the Crag hills near the Long road, and sometimes rogue Bugbears find work in Mirabar for a change of pace. Big, hairy and strong. They are also surprisingly sneaky SOBs”
Sparhawk brings Sorsha and Eberk to take a look at the head. “So..I was looking over the wagon and tying down the supplies and found this. Any ideas what it is?” He asks his friends showing them the head.
Frangipani follows Sorsha and the other two.....when she sees the mud figure she is intrigued....then slightly hungry as she wonders what magical mud baby eyes taste like....
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Realizing Barnacled Ruhm might be in trouble, Sorsha quickly dismisses him to his pocket dimension and makes him reappear in the cart with her, ready for his report on what has transpired.
As Sparhawk shows her the creepy head she sighs. "Put it away in a bag or something until we figure out what it is." She says, waiting for that to happen before she continues.

"That creature's bad news, Cap'n. Why are you keeping it around? It's evil and disgus--" Bjorn cuts himself off as the imp reappears. He attempts to shift into a friendly greeting, but only manages something like a grimace.

Arcana to figure out if the head could be some kind of magical spying device: 13
It could be considered a spy device as you can detect the eyes indeed do see what is happening, but you you cannot determine if there is anyway it can communicate what it sees. Ruhm appears in the cart, shaking his fist at the air and uttering curses you have never heard before. His little keg has a crossbow bolt embedded into it. After a sec, he realizes he is no longer where he was, and chuckles in embarrassment
“ oh, hey there…Heh he he. Them suckers shot me keg, they are going to pay for that…Hey, what are you doing with mud puppy Bob? He is not quite finished yet”
"Ah, it's his creation." Sparhawk seems relieved. "Looks like the gangs all here captain, shall we continue?" "Also, that key on the map may not be far ahead." When Sparhawk sees Vars, he pretends to throw his net at him again. Then laughs.
Vars raises an arm when Sparhawk pretends to throw the net at him again, realizing the paladin was just messing with him, he lowers his arm and raises an eyebrow. Letting it go, he joins up with the group.
"What is that...thing?" He notices the uncanny head.
Turning away from the disconcerting head, he looks to Sorsha, "Sounds like there is a potential job over in long saddle. I believe it would be worth looking into if we decide to pass through there. The employers, the Harpells, are supposed to be quite wealthy and powerful. So it should be well worth our while if we decide to take it on. Plus...we'd be dealing with an ancient temple, never know what kind of plunder we'd find in there...and neither would they."

In Sorshas mind:
A garbled, unintelligible message reaches you. Hard to make sense of it…” hah he heh, there’s…….ooooh, look at………hey now!…Ahhhhh, time to….”
then it cuts off. You realize it’s Ruhm, but he must be a bit too far out of range for the messaging to get through

Eberk examines the head to see if it is religious in nature.

As Eberk examines the figure as it examines him back..it does not seem religious as as far as Eberk can tell. Creepy for sure

"Never mind mud puppy Bob, do tell me who shot your keg and why Ruhm." Sorsha says impatiently.

"No, the key on the map will still be several days ahead I'm afraid." Sorsha comments to Sparhawk while waiting for Ruhm to report.
