Vars quickly scans the area, checking windows and the door before entering, "Others have already been in here, so some of the evidence might have already been removed." He says this as he looks around the room.
To be a bit more specific, Vars is focusing on the dining table, cabinets, and bookshelves. Irongrass mentioned that Aberanth's food had been left uneaten at the table. Have any of the chairs been moved, indicating that he got up and left. Or are the chairs still pushed in as if he was sitting there and suddenly blipped out of existence.
He is also hoping to find whatever book this mage was so interested in. He is still pretty sure that his disappearance is somehow connected to the book. If the book is still there, its a pretty good indicator that this is the result of a spell gone wrong. If there is no sign of the book (or anything he might mistake for the book) he will also look for a journal. Anything that can give any indication of why this sudden disappearance happened.
(Ooc: oh, I thought Sparhawk entered. I misread his comment. sorry. I think Vars would still go in. He's convinced himself that this was probably not a kidnapping, so his first instinct is to look at the evidence inside, not for forced entrance. Additionally, he wouldn't see any reason to investigate the same thing everyone else is investigating.)
(That said, if you all want me to wait. I can have him just investigate outdoors instead.)
(Sorry, I'm being unclear, I mean we don't know if the door is open or not I think. If Sparhawk says he enters that doesn't necessarily means he will succeed in doing that.)
[Yeah, I got the impression it was a magical door. That's usually the explanation for why one thing still looks like new when everything around it is a mess lol.]
"Friends, lets also check for forced entry on windows. So far, I don't see anything unusual except the door seems new to me.?" Sparhawk expected that people have already been here before. What is something they missed? (Perception: 15
As you look arounD the entry way, you don’t see any signs of forced entry. The windows are filthy, but intact. The door is solid and the door jambs are not messed up in anyway. The door doesn’t seem new, just in great condition and of much better build quality then the rest of the house.
Vars will check the door and it seems to be unlocked. He is able to open it without issue. The hinges don’t even creak. It is like this is the highest quality door ever made. As he opens the door a bit to peer inside he can see the entry way is a nice little nook with some cloaks hanging neatly on hooks on the walls and a nice oak bench with some shoes and boots underneath. There is a small round wool carpet in the center of the entryway, made in various patterns of greens and reds.
the main hallway extends for what seems must be the entire length of the house. There are three doorways on the left and two on the right with an open archway that leads into what you assume must be the kitchen.

Sorsha folllows Vars inside, keeping a good look out for threats as the others investigate. "Stay together now and be wary of wards and other protective magics." Perception: 22
"People knew Irongrass lived here, right? This isn't, like, a secret hideout. Right?" Bjorn scratches his head, puzzled by the discrepancy between the overgrown exterior and the neat interior.
Are the shoes and boots all the same size? If not, we might have company here.
"The overgrown exterior might have been created to make the house seem less interesting for people who would consider stealing from a wizard."Sorsha says with a slight smirk.

The boots and shoes seem of similar make and size. ( Abernath, not Irongrass)

On the hallway wall you can see the edges of picture frames, but can’t see any further details without entering

(OOC: Don't think we are inside the house quite yet)

(Ooc: No worries, Oberon, the door possibly being locked was an afterthought on my account. I should have checked that first.)
(DM, should I re-roll my investigation check? Or did Vars simply not find anything he was looking for.)
Edit: I'll say that Vars goes to the kitchen first, to inspect the table. Then searches for the book or journal after the fact.
This is what the outside approximately looks like
Very Cool drawing.
Sparhawk looks for a secret door, moved carpet, cabinet out of place. Uses darkvision if needed:

(I"m headed to dinner..... go ahead and proceed, NPC Sparhawk if needed).
Thanks
With investigation checks, be specific and only one area at a time. You can keep your same roll for the kitchen.
