Zaal eyes Sparhawk, "I think you are getting ahead of yourself. This is a temporary arrangement unless things change down the road." He crosses his arms and leans against the closest support he can find, "I'm not looking to be... sworn into your group. I'm asking to work alongside you for as long as you are working for Dietrich." He taps his elbow with one finger then adds, "As I said before, I'm not accustomed to working with a team. So forgive me if this seems blunt."
He turns a blank face to Bjorn, pausing a long moment before answering his question with, "Most of my work I do in the dark. The sun keeps me awake in the morning." Well, the sun and the rest of his work that is, but he leaves that part out as it seems rather obvious.
(OOC: Depending on interactions, Zaal may warm up to you guys quickly or slowly, but I have plans for him to change his tune. Right now though the idea of taking an oath to join a crew he just met, especially coming from a loner's background (which has worked out so far for him to a degree) is just a little out there. I hope this doesn't make things too difficult, but this is the most realistic response I can see for him right now.)
Sparhawk looks at Zaal again, wondering if the irritable man is worth his trouble. His head still hurts from the swelling of his freshly broken nose. He decides its a bit early in the day to pursue it any further and the crew might not like Zaal anyway, so he doesn't respond at first, then simply says, "I hear you."
(Zaal is perceptive enough to know that each time he has been near the paladin, he feels like he is being measured. The man is careful with who he trusts)
"So...Bjorn....Eberk, that matter we were discussing earlier. We have Dietrich and Volo here now. What do you think?"
"I'd take what Volo says with a grain of salt, as he's got a personal interest in propping up the power of the written word, as well as a grudge against wizarddom." Bjorn shrugs, as if he doesn't have a bias against wizards himself. "But far be it from my intentions to go against the advice of our employer, should he have any."
Zaal nods to Sparhawk, it’s clear he has a measure of respect for the paladin. He doesn’t trust easily either, which may be why he is adamantly stating that he is working for Dietrich—the one person present he does trust. Sparhawk would also realize that Zaal is measuring him in his own way, though his tired (almost lazy) demeanor half covers it up.
As they start talking about discussing…something with Volvo and Dietrich Zaal leans his head back against the wall and closes his eyes. After a few moments it becomes obvious that he’s ‘dozed off’ or rather drifted into the elven equivalent of dozing off. Though considering he’s still standing and has one ear pointed toward the group, he may or may not still be listening.
Frangipani moved over to Lir figuring she had said all that needed to be said, she sniffed Lir experimentally then looked into his eyes for a long while before shrugging and squatting next to him.
“I agree with Bjorn. We have nothing to lose in asking.” Eberk excitedly digs into his breakfast. He keeps an eye on Sparhawk, worried about his friend’s odd dream.

“ the journey was very smooth, actually. None of the normal storms that are standard this time of year. Squeaked out of Luskan right as the harbor was closed up. Grendhal is a barbaric, merciless bastard. Got a good look at him. He has quite the ugly mug, a githyanki I believe. I did hear a rumor that the Iron wizard slipped out of the net, so maybe he will be able to raise some help to fight the maniac”
"Those aren't real. People just don't know what foxes sound like." Bjorn wiggles his fingers in a mockery of scary claws. "Best not wander the woods alone, the githyanki will get you. Hogwash."
“I’m not familiar with the term. You think him the Boogy man or something.?”
“He’s a man with a powerful item that has made him too dangerous. His minions are drunk with power.” He looks at the seated group and in complete deadly seriousness,
“When I’m done here, I intend to hunt him down. He will answer for his crimes against the people there.”
“ Githyanki are people from across the ocean. Very rare in our parts, generally are known to be nasty and talented with mind magics. From what I knew of Grendhal he was nasty, but not particularly strong in the magic arena. He was banished by the ships of Luskan many years ago for backstabbing and treacherous behavior. And by banished I mean Mr Fist left him on a pile of sand somewhere way off the trade routes.”
"Bjorn, are you Githyanki by chance?" Sparhawk smiles.
"Well, if you would like to have your home and wonderful collection back eventually Dietrich, perhaps you will assist in my quest to overthrow Grendhal once we complete our mission here. You seem to have the ability to communicate long distances, I'm sure there are other ships and their crew that could assist, and perhaps you would even have a way to communicate with the wizards?" (still wanting to talk with Irongrass, he subtly mentions it, hoping it baits the resourceful and eager man into spilling the beans. "Otherwise, we won't have a place to put that huge skull. So, perhaps, our paths will continue to intertwine in the future."
The paladin seems to be feeling a bit better and grabs some food as they start talking business.
"For now, tell us more of what you know of this skull and its location. Volo gave us three possibilities. Then, when we find it, whats the next steps?"

Frangipani
You notice along with being dirty, a bit smelly, that Lir’s cloak also has a skinned face sewn into it
Frangipani began sniffing Lirs cloak closely and gave it a bit of a lick...
Sparhawk looks at Dietrich, ignoring Frangi’s usual strangeness
”How was your journey? What’s happening in Luskan?”
“ the journey was very smooth, actually. None of the normal storms that are standard this time of year. Squeaked out of Luskan right as the harbor was closed up. Previously placid and unengaged - even passively accepted Frangipani pawing at his cloak - Lir locks on to the speaker at the mention of Githyanki.
"Gith...yanki? What is?"

He looks at the seated group and in complete deadly seriousness,

" Why face?", Frangipani said to Lir finally.
“ Githyanki are people from across the ocean. Very rare in our parts, generally are known to be nasty and talented with mind magics.
