As you get nearer to the action you can recognize the fiend as a dretch. A minor devil similar to the ones you encountered breaking into Abernaths tower where you first encountered the Marduk artifact
Eberk runs along Frangipani as quickly as his little legs will allow. Also making note of the bugs, he calls out to the group. “Five gold says Lir stirred up this mess on the way back from his walkabout last night.”
Sparhawk glances back at Eberk for a moment. "Of course he is Earthlord but you are failing to see the bigger picture of all of these evil occurrences."
Just as you get into range, the dretch is banished by the priests spell, leaving the stinking cloud and swarm of bugs. The priest and temple guards pull the soldiers outside the swarms radius and provides healing to the living. Four of the soldiers died from the wounds inflicted by the insects. More soldiers arrive as you do and begin to search the area thoroughly, looking for any clue to the how and why of the attack and to see if any other scion of evil could be found. You can see people picking up fragments of the gold painted dome that were blown off by the lightning…was this some scheme to rob the port’s vaults? Was it part of the previous evening’s attack? Is there more to come?
Sparhawk calls the group over, "Here's where the creature (Dretch) attacked from. Not sure how it got here. Does a creature like this need to be summoned?"
Sparhawk uses his divine sense (and Marduk nausea) to see if there is any other evidence of fiends, undead, etc.) "Here is a doorway."
Sparhawk’s divine sense glows hot at the spot the Dretch was last seen before it was banished. Also a few of formerly undead who are now dead again have still not been cleaned up here and there
After a bit of searching for clues you see Lir rummaging about, looking at the dead soldiers and appearing to be investigating like he was with you the whole time.
Doesn’t appear to be any. Their skin is swollen and covered in bumps, indicating their cause of death was more an extreme reaction to the bites than from blood loss
"Lir!. Haven't seen you in a while. I've been.....asleep, they tell me for several days." Sparhawk smiles. "Got my own story to tell. Our good friend Eberk has 5 gold on whether your the "cause" of this demonic event." (out of earshot of Eberk..)"He seems to think I can summon skeletons and zombies as well." "Are you ok? I feel like you've been quite busy since we arrived here."
He looks the strange man over. "Your business is your own...but....anything I should know that will aid the crew, or that I can aid you with?"
"Dagon appeared. Charged me with a blood ritual. Wouldn't accept mine. A temple of Waukeen, I thought - they worship gold. No Uck-Fay Uktar and all that. Always "on their grind". Made sense to me. Then I followed a rat, it died, some magic in a pipe - so I cast lighting on the building. Didn't work. Then the soldiers arrived. So I brought down a plague of insects, then took the form given me by Dagon. Attacked. Still no blood!
"Priest sent me to hell. Devils sent me back. Frustrated."
“Can Dagon help us when we return to Luskin?” Sparhawk says out loud, almost to himself.
“Ah, I have something for you Lir. We have traveled together and faced death. I consider you my friend and brother.” He reaches in his pocket, “please, wear this as a sign of our bond.”
He gives Lir the last magic amulet. “May it protect you in your time of need.”

these are the questions on everyone’s lips
No longer having a target Frangipani stalks about the area with a disappointed air.
"Keep an eye out for our friend Lir."
Sparhawk scans the crowd, looking for the disheveled man with a face on the back of his cloak.
(Perception: 18)
"Where's Lir!?"
You find no trace of Lir, but find the space in The bushes where the Dretch attacked from. The position affords a good view of the doorway
Sparhawk calls the group over, "Here's where the creature (Dretch) attacked from. Not sure how it got here. Does a creature like this need to be summoned?"

Any blood on the ground from the felled soldiers?
Sparhawk will help with healing and first aid. For those in need.
He catches Lirs attention at some point and makes it quite clear he would like a word after the wounded are tended to.
Doesn’t appear to be any. Their skin is swollen and covered in bumps, indicating their cause of death was more an extreme reaction to the bites than from blood loss
Lir lets out a frustrated groan, and then stomps over to Sparhawk.
"Yes? I've been to Hell. Long day."
Sparhawk heads over to Lir, and gives him a hug.
"Lir!. Haven't seen you in a while. I've been.....asleep, they tell me for several days." Sparhawk smiles. "Got my own story to tell. Our good friend Eberk has 5 gold on whether your the "cause" of this demonic event." (out of earshot of Eberk..)"He seems to think I can summon skeletons and zombies as well."

"Priest sent me to hell. Devils sent me back. Frustrated."
“Hum. Is Dagon the being you worship? I am not from these lands. What form did you take? I’m a bit confused”
Lir lost for words for a beat.
"She is below. She is the dark water that will rise. She is Dagon."
“Can Dagon help us when we return to Luskin?” Sparhawk says out loud, almost to himself.
