Garth as you step forward, you happen to step on something and look down. Your foot is on a brown cloak that has a simple appearance, it appears to be something a farmer would wear. It has a single button around the neck. The button made of a large tooth from some animal.
You feel that if you edge much nearer the hole, you might go through.
Hlin, you hear your voice echo below…. but no reply.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Garth loops the rope under his arms, making ready to cross the cave-in. "Just like old times", he says, a tinge of sadness in his voice.
He hammers a piton into the ground, looping the rope around it befor handing the coil of rope to his fellow dwarf, and other companions. He wait for a couple of people to have a firm grasp.
"Play it out slowly," he says, as he leans into the abyss, hoping to catch sight of the bottom.
@Garth the cave in is oval in shape, 5-6 feet long and about 4 feet wide.
You hammer in the piton and attach the rope, giving a hand hold. As you look below, you see a natural cavern going from east to west, about 20 feet down, roughly 8 feet wide.
As you are looking around, on the level where you are, you see the passage extend further north, bending slightly east, and a chamber opening up. As you hold the rope and from that vantage point you can see a couple of empty oil lamps on the wall, a pick, and a mine cart.
@party - Anyone who is looking please roll an investigation check for me. It is clear that you do not see a body. You do see equipment - right near the hole that is the cave in you see a brown hat, a crowbar, and a cloak.

Belkaria watches Garth and Salamir head down the hole. As Salamir goes, she raises her eyebrows, "Dang, you're one wily little rogue, aren't ya"Once the two of them appear to be safely at the bottom, she picks up the brown coat and checks it over, seeing if there is anything in the pockets or any other type of identification. She then tries to skirt around the cave in to get a better look at the chamber beyond. Not wanting anything to come from that direction, she stays as close to her party as she can while she looks.

As the nimble half-elf effortlessly glides down the other end of the rope Garth grunts in surprise then, with a low grumble, hauls himself clear of the edge. "Young ones. Seems they're the same, no matter what race, eh? No patience."
Nodding thanks to Hlin he removes the loop of rope from his shoulders, "Only twenty feet to bottom, no body. Best you anchor the rope still, he may need to return in a hurry."
He quickly checks the piton, then investigates the items near the hole.
(( @DM: Did Garth's investigation determine anything about the items at the top of the hole?
My vote is for Salamir to grab the items below, then we keep moving along the corridor at the top, but it's only a minor preference. Garth will stuff the items in his pack(?), hoping to be able to return them to their owner. ))
Garth looks up from his investigation, "Farmer fell down there, is my guess. Walked off and got lost, most likely." He stares up the unexplored corridor past the cave-in. "We should see what's what up here before going lower. Should be able to jump the gap...if the floor holds. Let me check that..."
When he has finished his investigation ((above)), he reattaches the looped rope under his arms, this time leaving about fifteen feet of slack, and asks Hlin and Javier to keep holding it. He then paces back down the corridor, takes a run-up, and tries to leap over the gap.
(( With a 10' run-up he should be able to jump his STR in feet -- so, 10. The hole is about 6', so he will launch into the air a couple of feet before the hole and try to land gently on the other side. 15' of rope hopefully means that if the floor collapses he won't fall all the way...
Acrobatics : 21 for gentle/quiet landing, or to reduce damage if floor collapses ))
Garth takes a running jump and easily lands on the other side of the hole in style, never losing his balance. You end up in a chamber roughly 20-30 feet around. The walls of this chamber have veils of yellow glittery gold coursing through it. This chamber also has fresh broken rock, a pick, a mine cart and several piles of fresh ore. There are two oil lamps hanging on the wall. Although everything appears recently disturbed, the oil lamps are empty and cold with lots of soot on the globe. It seems the lamps burned dry of oil. It is evident that someone has been mining this location and there is a significant amount of gold still here..
Belkaria picks up the brown cloak that appears common, searching the pockets, finds a gold nugget in one of the pockets. As she’s putting it on to search it fully, you notice that she seems quieter and harder to see. (Belkaria see PM)
Salamir, you land softly on sandy soil, easily coming down the rope. Please give me a perception check. Javier is up top holding the rope, Hlin are you there as well or did you go down with Salamir?

Since the floor did not break, Garth unties himself from the rope and throws the end back to Hlin, then tries again to loiter unseen watching and listening for movement. He waits against the wall near the entrance, trying to assess the the room in more detail.
Garth no one is there in the chamber. This seems like the end of the line, a good strike and a vein with gold to be mined, but no one is there in the chamber. You can walk back to the others, seeing them on the other side of the hole, but you cannot make out anything below from your vantage point, other than Salamir, who waves up at you.

Salamir watches Garth head into the whole, and realises that it isn't that far down.
"Hold on, I'll come down too", he says jumping down and using the rope with his free hand to slow his descent.
He uncovers the lantern a bit in order to see better see what is about them.
