Hmmmm... it seems reasonable enough. I would rule that as you using the "help" action, giving poor old Bayrith here advantage on their saving throw. But you already used your action though, so you'll have to do it next turn.
You put your might into this swing and as you feel it hit, the thing scatters into its component pieces. Bayrith still takes 4 damage from that, but as the magic that animated this thing falters and fails, Bayrith falls to floor, finally free from the thing's grasp.
After the whole battle, the entire room is now littered with papers and parchment. The shelves at the room's left and right walls however are undamaged and contain books and scrolls. On the forward most wall sits a shelf containing only three leather bound books.
Bayrith wakes up with a groan. "Neeeeeeeeuuuuhhhh, well that was like a nightmare I had during my apprenticeship. My master had me researching......" he trails off as he notices all the books and parchment about the room. He looks up at Fionn, "Did my spell work right?"
Bayrith actually seems to brighten at the knowledge of his spell working. He slowly gets up, takes out his notebook and begins to look around the room at all the books.

You try and struggle, but the exhaustion and the pain just makes it hard for you to really exert some energy to try and wiggle out.
