One in the corner, perfect, as I like to sit with my back to the wall whenever possible!
Since we’ve already met, I let my companions know what I intend (to make contact with the person sitting alone in the corner). I check the room as I make my way around to that same corner, turkey leg in-tow (why waist a good meal, right?).
Whatever the fella (or sheila – as the case may be) is doing, I mimic it (e.g. If they’re sitting with their leg propped up on a stool in front of them, I do so. If they’re, sitting at a table with the elbow on it, I take the same position; not too close, but clearly acting a bit unusual (if not outright awkward) in order to “break the ice”. Who says a Paladin can’t have a sense of humor?
When this person looks at me incredulously (hopefully that’s all they do) I reach out a greasy hand (from the turkey leg) to introduce myself in the custom of my people (a hearty handshake) as I mention my name.
When they stare at my gesture rather than taking my offered grip (hopefully that’s all they do) I suddenly notice in a wildly over-the-top fashion my obvious faux pas. Feigning embarrassment, I hastily remove my outstretched paw and wipe it on my thigh before attempting said greeting again. This time I wait for a reaction, with a friendly grin on my face.
He surprisingly accepts as you offer a handshake and shakes your hand. "Hello, my name is Gundren Rockseeker, and I assume you are an adventurer?" He seems friendly and pleasant and makes you feel like your talking to an old friend. "I'm sorry if I appeared, weird. It's just the best way to attract adventurers."

I exist sometimes, especially when I'm DMing Curse of Strahd.
I think to myself, “I like this guy.” Being somewhat familiar with dwarves, I can see this one is a leader with purpose. What that purpose is, has yet to be revealed.
“Well, it certainly worked!”, I say to him. “Yes, I’m looking for work. I have my own equipment and I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty. I’m new to these parts but I’ve already made some acquaintances. Now, I’ll just mention this up front… a couple I think, have elvish blood. I hope that won’t be a problem. Personally, I try to keep an open mind, as my early childhood experiences have taught me to remain humble when appropriate and not look down my nose at folk who don’t look like me.”
“Sorry sire. I’m not sure what caused my loose tongue. Usually, I’m not so quick to share my history with strangers. For some reason I feel at ease with you!”
"It's alright, a lot of people say that about me, and I also have no problem with elves. You see, I and my brothers have found something big. I have some business in Neverwinter, a town near the Sword Coast. I need to buy supplies there, and I need help transporting them back here, to Phandelver." He is very secretive about this "something big", and you can tell that he won't just tell anyone.
“I can’t speak for the others, but it sounds to me like honest work. And, if a bit of adventure just happens to come with it, then I say, ‘Fortune favors the bold!’”
“Allow me a moment to go speak with my new-found travelling companions and ask them to come meet you.”
As I walk back to the table where I left the team waiting, I wonder about this “something big” and just what the implications may be for such a commitment. After all, what do I really know about this Gundren Rockseeker?
Oh well, I’m in need of provisions myself. If this guy has work for me and our paths take us in the same direction, where’s the harm?
(Sorry it took me so long to respond, I just signed in on the computer at school) Vanir wants to look around to see if there is entertainment in the bar. Does he see any entertainment?
Vanir thanks the bartender and walks up on stage, pulls his guitar out and says, "What a lovely turn out we have at this fine establishment. My name is Vanir Diamonddew, and I am the best performer you will ever hear."
Just as a disclaimer I have changed the beginning and rebalanced a few encounters. Otherwise everything is the same

You all met, in the Stonehill Inn. There are many people in the inn, and one person in the corner, what do you do?

There is an empty stage in the back of the tavern, and there is no music currently playing. Otherwise, there is no entertainment.

Is the bartender speaking with anyone right now (if there is a bartender)?
There is a bartender, who isn't speaking with anyone, just cleaning empty glasses.

I walk up to the bartender and say, "Is the owner of this tavern around here?"
They reply, "I am the owner, Toblen Stonehill, what do you need?"

Vanir says, "I was wondering if I could provide some entertainment for this fine tavern here."
The bartender looks happy at your request, "Feel free to play, I've been tight with money, so I can't pay much, but go ahead."

A few people turn to look at you and wait for you to play. Roll performance (use [ roll]1d20+5[/roll ] without the spaces in the brackets.)

Performance check total: 18
You play well, and the people enjoy it, some tapping their feet to the beat.

I continue playing for about half an hour (I'm going to take a break until other people begin playing).
