Lazarus would simply nod his head as Jorge would explain to them the more miniature details of the venture but ended in it seemingly being simple and straight forward. "That sounds like the best kind of job. And sharks honey, Sharks!" He would say in an almost child like manner. He was always up for seeing wildlife and sharks were things he had heard about but never actually got into close contact with. Still, wouldn't want to end up too close but to actually see it in the flesh would be a great boon for him.
Bosko would take his leave and shortly after, Alyndra would comment about both food for the trip but then the aroma of the area around them. It wasn't until she said something that his stomach would let out a low rumble in which he would grab his belly and then look to her. "Just had to remind it, didn't you?" He would then look to Narumi as she was more than willing to stick together for the little venture. He would nod in a firm agreement and then look to the sound of Bosko ushering them over for a fish, cakes and other delectable delights. "Meat. Fish with no greens." He would hold his hand up as he started to walk over, holding onto his wife's hand to drag her along.
"I'll try and squeeze in a performance or two before the nights over to try and get us a little bit of money together." He would say as he would find himself a seat beside his new compatriots.
Snorting at the firbolg's adorable reaction to sharks Alyndra couldn't help but bring up with a bemused smile, "Uh-huh... And where do sharks live again honey?" Trying to lead him to the answer he wouldn't be too happy about but had clearly forgotten in his excitement.
Patting her husband's belly as it too rumbled in protest, she shrugged at his rhetorical question. But as Narumi bid them to lead the way towards food, she started walking naturally towards where she had seen Bosko go, knowing he had been going towards food as well. "Sounds like a plan. Maybe some of these stalls need some help. Or I could see about getting a replacement alchemy kit."She remarked towards Lazarus before stating, "It's probably better for us to eat now rather than to try and shop for rations while hungry. Is there anything you think you'd need to get before we leave tomorrow...Narumi, right?"Testing out the Goliath's name before adding, "Sounds like we'll be gone for possibly a tenday so best be prepared."
Growing up far from any oceans, the only fish that Alyndra were familiar were fresh water river fish and they didn't taste nearly this delectable as the faire that she and Lazarus had experienced since coming to the Menagerie coast. Seeing the skewers of juicy vegetables and fish, she exclaimed in excitement, "Fish! Fish fish fish fish fish fish fish~" The pattern taking on a melodic tone and she seemed just as excited about food as her partner had about sharks. Clearing her throat she looked up and then saw that Bosko was already approaching them with many a skewer in hand, beginning to hand them off. Eyes wide in surprise at the gesture she stumbled over her tongue as she tried to say, "O-Oh! Thank you Bosko, really, you didn't have to-not that it isn't nice, it is appreciated but you didn't have to we could-." Finally the half elf stilled her lips with reddened ears and simply ended with an embarrassed smile, "Thanks. They look delicious." Before beginning to take careful bites of the very hot skewer of food. "We can pay you back though." Not knowing how much said food cost but not wanting to be in debt with someone right off the bat of knowing them.
Bosko pays the stall holder and heads back towards the others, skewers in hand. As he walks, he spots a group of people moving away from a table and heads quickly over, not even noticing some other folk who were also waiting for the table to become free. He isn't one for sitting at a table normally, but he knows other races prefer to do it.
As the others join him, he hands out the skewers with a very big grin, which looks fairly disconcerting on his bugbear face, but his eyes look happy at least.
When Alyndra offers to pay him back for the food he only shrugs. "Good clan share, build strong bond", he says simply with a firm nod.
Hearing Lazarus mention performing he looks intrigued. “What Lazarus perform?”, he asks curiously.
He then looks around to see if there is anything in the way of green spaces in the city, anywhere that looks suitable to set up camp.
Bosko does indeed find a few open seats at one of the many long table that are setup up in the vicinity of the food stalls in the middle of the block. It's within close view to one of the small stages, where a trio are currently performing. A female gnome with a purple haired pixie cut sings high-pitched, soaring melodies, while a pair of half elven men accompany her on lute and hand drum. The style of music is quite upbeat with a nice flow, which contrasts in an interesting way to the sadness of the lyrical content about lost loves and forgotten friendships.
As he passes near the stage, Lazarus notices a man who appears to in be charge of the list of performers throughout the day. He's standing next to a sign that invites local talent to sign up for a spot. There is actually a stage set up at both ends of the street, and three more spaced at regular intervals along the street as well.
Currently, you are on one of the four main well trafficked roads that form a rectangle around the city center. Suamalie Way specializes in food and fine dining, while Alt'afi Avenue sports theaters, bathhouses, gambling halls, and other venues for private entertainment. Minceli Road contains administration buildings and Zhelezo barracks, and Soyer Street is home to many of the local harvesters and working class folk.
Also, given that Feolinn is a popular destination for wealthy socialites, and it is filled with businesses that cater to vacationers, there really isn't any obvious place to camp within the city walls. And, as you saw, just outside the city, lie the large expanse of the Plumgroves, and a number of small family farms. However, there is plenty of lodging to be found on both Suamalie Way and Alt'afi Avenue.
Lazarus would chuckle a bit as his significant other would ask him a rather simple question. "Pft, of course I do, they live in the water, Duh." He would then go to chuckle but then it would come full circle and he would feel almost nauseous. "Oh...oh no. Well, maybe it won't be that bad. Or maybe we wont ever have to actually go Out into the ocean. Magic can make that into a thing, right? Right?"He would then start to weight his pro's and con's on his now too late of a job.
In the midst of his small internal conflict, his attention would be drawn to the sounds of music which got his finger tapping along without him really noticing. He would start to let his head turn in order to see the venue and then the sign caught his attention and he looked see a sign up sheet. He would look to his current group of companions and then Alyndra and give her a pat on her shoulder. "Actually, I'll be right back." And would wave to Bosko and Narumi in acknowledgement real quick before hurrying off to sign himself up. Upon reaching the sheet, he would look it over to see just how full the list was and would sign himself up and then he would wait till he was able.
Once his turn was up, he would draw his lute from his back and make his way onto the stage. As he began his way up, he would begin to strum a few cords, looking over his lute as if to tune it as he began to PLAY and as he started to move his head along with the music, he would use Dancing Lights , causing them to sit in the air around him, slowly bobbing in place along with the rhythm of the music as he played.
Trying to guess at the display of teeth that Bosko presented, Alyndra was fairly sure he was grinning and was more reassured by his eyes. Taking a skewer with a word of gratitude as she settled into a seat, the half elf's head tilted as she asked, "Clan huh? That sounds pretty important."And soon considering they'd only met less than an hour ago. Trying not to be rude and hopefully succeeding, she asks, "Don't you have your own clan?"
At her husband's late realization, Alyndra simply sighed with a put upon yet fond smile, a hand rubbing his lower back. "I don't know if we're quite that magical dear." Which made her wonder as she turned to Narumi and Bosko and asked with frank open curiosity, "Do either of you know any magic?"
As Lazarus patted her shoulder and stated that he would be right back, she managed to plant her lips on the back of the hand on her shoulder quickly for a kiss before he left as she acknowledged, "M'Kay."Green eyes trailing after him before focusing back on Bosko with a grin, "You'll see. And camp? I doubt the guard would allow us to set up tents inside the city, though there's a slight chance that they expect people to do that due to the occasion? We could see if there are any rooms available at an inn to stay at instead. Tonight will be the last night we'll have to sleep in a stationary bed for the next week. Might as well try and enjoy it."Raising up her skewer in toast before taking another bite, eyes closing as she savored the flavors.
That was when she heard the beginning strums of a very familiar instrument and she turned, craning her neck to set eyes upon her husband. It wasn't a grand epoch or ballad or love story but it felt perfect for the air of the festivities. She couldn't help but slap the side of her thigh lightly in rhythm with the beat to the song Lazarus played, a loving smile softening her expression as she watched him play.
Bosko chats to Alyndra between bites of his fish kebab, which soon disappears.
"Birth clan not seen for long time. Travel with Elros and Scarla, share food, make small clan. Now travel with Alyndra, Lazarus and Narumi for time. Have new clan", he says by way of explanation. Maybe clan not right word to use, these folk not understand, he thinks as Alyndra didn't seem to understand.
"Know small magic. You know big magic?", he replies to Alyndra's question regarding magic, holding a finger and thumb a short way apart.
He watches Lazarus dash off without answering his question, and frowns a little, but shrugs it off. Maybe he didn't hear.
"Camp at inn, yes", he says as he follows Alyndra's line of sight and sees Lazarus playing his lute. "Ah, that what Lazarus perform".
"What about Narumi? You do magic, or perform?", he asks curious about their other companion.
After signing up with the stage manager, Lazarus doesn't have to wait very long, maybe forty five minutes for his spot to come up. (Apparently, the pair of halfling percussionists who had the next slot never showed up. The man rolls his eyes and mutters something about them probably lost in a drunken stupor somewhere else and he lets the firebug take their place.
Each performer is allowed a twenty minute set, and so accompanied by his Dancing Lights, he strums his lute and runs through a handful of different musical passages, styles and moods. The crowd is mostly a mix of inebriated folk making their way from one booth to another, with a few people stopping to enjoy the music, and a few enthusiastic, very inebriated souls who cheer and dance to whatever act is playing at the moment, so he gets at least some good reception from those who do stop to pay attention to his performance.
A few even drop coins into the "tip pot" that's placed in front of the stage. Meanwhile, the other three of you sit at one of the tall tables and enjoy your fish kebabs while watching his performance.
When he's finished with his performance, Lazarus finds 40 sp in the pot, as well as 14 electrum coins, which are a rarity in most places, although they do pop in cities on occasion.
Lazarus would continue to let his lights dance around as he continued to play his lute, enjoying the overall reception and absolutely adoring the attention he was receiving. He could feel the joy of the eyes on him that he made the lights dance around with a bit more exuberance. Though, like all things, his fanfare and music would calm down till he would raise his instrument in the air and give a bow several more times than needed but wanted to soak up another performance before letting himself leave the stage, walking over to the tip pot and being quite entertained with his earnings.
He would put the money into his coin pouch and make his way over to the stand where the man that he signed up with was. He would reach into his pouch and pull out a couple of coins and then place give it to the man. "For the opportunity." He would then give him a polite wave and then head back to the food stall that he had taken off from. He would take a couple of deep breaths as he arrived and would meet his wife and comrades. "Sorry, it's hard to deny the call of art. I apologize."
Bosko scratches the fur on the side of his face as he congratulates Lazarus.
"You play nice, enjoyed", he says to the firbolg as he sits down.
His belly full and not being that used to conversation with strangers, he starts to look about at the street around him. "Is busy, might take time find rooms. We should go soon", he says looking back at the others.
"Keen to go on boat now, shame have to wait", he adds, not really sure what else to do while they wait. "What else to do here?".
"Here is good eating and drinking, but belly full now".
Alyndra noticed how the bugbear seemed to distinguish 'birth clan' as separate from other groups but called them all clans. Nodding but still curious she asked, "So clan isn't family? Just cohesive group?" Taking another bite of the kebab, she couldn't help but lick the stick, savoring every taste. "I haven't seen my "birth clan" in a long time too. Lazarus is my family now. And I guess clan?" Still trying to understand bugbear society.
Seeing him measure his magic, the half elf thought for a moment and then wiped off her sticky fingers on a handkerchief before holding up her hand with just an inch more between her fingers than Bosko had and explained, "Not big magic, but lots of little. So far. I want to learn more big magic. But that's easier said than done." She shrugged with a resigned smile and shrug. "Easier just to make potions and elixirs to get by. That and Lazarus' performances have gotten us this far." The auburn haired woman smiled over at her husband who was finishing up playing. Clapping, she then focused on Narumi as Bosko casually questioned her. "I imagine you could lift any of us with just your pinkie finger, but any other fun talents?" She was interested in the goliath woman and asked, "You said you came from the mountains, right? Was it the Cyrios mountains?"
Flashing a smile as Lazarus returned, a hand lingered on his arm as he sat down and she pushed food towards him. Frowning at Bosko's point she sighed, "You're right. Busy festival like this? We'll be lucky if there's anywhere cheap available." Considering what the bugbear pointed out she offered, "We could see about securing beds for tonight straight away and then once that's settled we could go back out and get whatever supplies we'll need. Food for the journey. I could see about getting a replacement alchemy kit." She mentioned to Lazarus, her expression rueful. "I'm sure there's all sorts of events and things going on now. It's one of those week long festivals, right?"She asked of no one in particular.
After Lazarus returns from the stage and you're finished with your meal, you get up and head towards the other end of Suamalie Way, where you find a handful of inns and hostels. You're able to secure a shared room for the three of you at The Serpent Inn, for 1 gp ea. The common room serves as a tavern and dining area, with a number of pantings on the walls that depict various ocean scenes, all of which contain some kind of sea serpent motif.
You are told that Soyer Street is where you'll find shops and merchant areas, if you need to purchase supplies for your upcoming journey.
Lazarus was enraptured by the food, as mundane as it might have seemed to any other, to him, it was a well needed meal that he had seemingly gone without for too long. In the midst of the chewing and slurping, he would pick out a few words, even full on sentences coming from Bosko and Alyndra. He would give way to pause as he would chime in on the situation regarding rooms. "Mou broaly ran-" He would stop himself as the food made his speech less than recognizable, quickly trying to chew just enough to swallow the food before taking a deep breath and continuing with a slight labored breath. "I probably could find something. Especially if cheap is the way to go. I'll go and look for some rooms if yall wanna get some supplies or we can go together." He would wipe his lower jaw from some juices that were able to escape his maw.
"I'll pay for your room too Bosko, to show my appreciation for getting us food." He would stand with a piece of meat still in his mouth as he would tear at it, aiming to enjoy what little he had left at this point. He would give them ample time in order to decide if they would go with him or aim to split themselves in order to get their own items and the like. As they would, he would being to go searching for a place for the night with a reasonable price for a one night stay. Cheap is the name of the game he would think to himself, as he was used to it but wouldn't want to stay outside in the street with his wife in toe. It took just a little bit of looking but he would inevitably come across The Serpent Inn. A bit on the nose but beggars can't be choosers. He would make his way inside and find the nearest tender in order to get a room for the three of them as he would pay for himself, Alyndra for obvious reasons and Bosko for his generosity.
"I've a mind to get a room for three please." And he would reach into his coin bag and pull out a few Electrum pieces for the total sum of the gold he needed.
“Much thanks”, Bosko says as Lazarus offers to pay for his room.
”Think only thing would get before leave, is line for fish. Be on boat for long time, good to fish”, he says to the others as he walks with them to the inn.
When he realises they could only get the one room, he looks a little sheepish, scratching the fur on the back of his neck. “Can sleep in common room, give friends privacy. Keep things in room though if that ok?”, he says to Lazarus and Alyndra.
After they have sorted the room situation, he happily wanders to the shop to get his fishing tackle as he mentioned. If anyone else has any good suggestions for what else to buy, he might well join in getting that as well.
As the innkeeper keeps talking with his new guests, a human head appears from the cellar trapdoor. “Very well, the alambic is repaired”. The human adds with a large smile “I even improved it now, it should run much better. But please take better care of it.”
Slowly the human climbs the ladder, appears behind the bar counter and dust off his vest and trousers. The 5.8 feet tall human, in his 20’s, is wearing a blue small blue beret and a blue vest with a small bag on the side containing several precision tools. He has donned a nice armour decorated with cables that lead to a weird metallic amulet, shining a faint light from the center of his chest. He continues, without too much care for the new patrons, and switch off the amulet to avoid blinding the Innkeeper. “Soooo, as we agreed. With the Alambic repaired, you give me dinner, ale and a room for tonight.”
Finally, he sees the large Firbolg and the half-elf and tip his blue hat as a salutation. The large green googles sitting on his nose gives him a strange look, as if this eyes were twice the normal size . He gently pushes the google around his neck and finishes: “After that, I’ll be off to new adventures. Who knows what kind of wonders await !.”
"Shark hunting", comes a gruff voice from the shadows behind the big Firbolg.
A Bugbear head wearing a tricorn hat pops around Lazarus to look at the human. "Bug eye human wants adventure? Shark hunting", Bosko says again with a smile, looking the human up and down and tilting his head.
He wonders at all the strange items this human is wearing, not having been far from the forests and fishing villages in his time.
"What all this stuff you carry?", he says reaching out a long arm and pointing at the array of cables and the amulet, curiosity etched on his furry features.
“Shark hunting? That’s something new to me. Would we be on a boat ? My stuff don’t like too much the salted water…”He points at his amulet and his toolbox.
Markus then grabs the hand of the bugbear and shakes it firmly. “I’m sorry, I’m talking and I don’t even introduce myself. Ma name is Markus, master tinkerer.”. He pauses and shows his different items that he has been working on in the last weeks. He holds first the amulet. “This is my GyroBeam. A fine mechanical chef d’oeuvre that creates light around me. Useful to find your way home, after a drinking night.” he adds smiling “And these”, pointing at the googles, “are my NightGoogles. With those I can see in pitch dark as well as a Dwarf or an Elf.”
Markus pats his chin with his fingers, thinking a couple of seconds about this intriguing offer. “Let's come back to your offer. Where are you heading and how much am I making ?”
Bosko looks down at the hand that Markus is firmly shaking with a slightly startled look on his face. Not many Humans are so tactile with a Bugbear.
"Um...", he stumbles, taken aback. "Name Bosko", he finally manages to get out. "Shark Hunting is tournament on Palma Flora. No offer, just....advice. We taking boat in morning, guard rep. You ask Jorge then, he hire us".
He then taps the GyroBeam with a clawed finger. "It Chef? How it cook food?".
“I will do check with this Jorge then. Thank you for sharing this information !”
Markus hold his GyroBeam, turning it in all directions, thinking about the last remark of the bugbear. “It does not sadly. But I have never thought about this. What a great idea!”. Talking more to himself than to his new acquaintance, he continues “ I guess I could use the electromagnetism of this and move it toward this direction…. Hummm might work. If it does , no need to have campfire to cook. Although you would need a metal pot I think.”
Markus taps on the shoulder of Bosko “I will work on that tonight ! Thanks for the idea !”
Sunita finished draining her drink and fixed the.....bugbear?...she had never seen one before but he seemed to match the descriptions she had heard.
She made her way to the bar and slipped the innkeeper 5 silver as she regarded Markus, " Here you go....I honestly thought he'd set fire to the place. Win some, lose some."
She pushed another 5 over, " You still have more of that Trost?", her voice was slightly mumbled and she leant slightly against the bar to keep herself upright.
" Bosko, is it? Your going fishing for someone called Jorge?"
She sagged a little bit, her eyes sad but determined, " I'm not looking to fight anything but I'm strong and I've been on boats* before.....and I really need to start contributing and not leeching off my parents in their retirement. Does it pay? This fishing trip?"
Lazarus would simply nod his head as Jorge would explain to them the more miniature details of the venture but ended in it seemingly being simple and straight forward.

Lazarus Ryder - Adventures Abound in Wildemount
It's one of those week long festivals, right?" She asked of no one in particular.
Nym Durnodel - Aspiring Heroes of Faerûn // Danica Amastacia - Red Dead Annihilation

Lazarus Ryder - Adventures Abound in Wildemount
After the shopping, happy to move on.

My stuff don’t like too much the salted water…” He points at his amulet and his toolbox.

* This is a lie.
