After Tamryn receives his answers, Kyrsa asks, "I remember you saying that we will not be allowed weapons for this mission. However, we have decided that I will be playing captain of Jahaartael's guard. I was wondering if I could bring a sword just for appearances--an expendable one...that I might surrender at the door if necessary. I do not intend to use the weapon, but I would like to add to the illusion we are trying to create of a paranoid noble and his personal guard. Even if the request to come unarmed was from our host, I still feel like the guard of a paranoid noble might try to get in with some way to protect him...even if it is just to calm her lord's nerves." She pauses, "I do not know if this would offend our host though. If it would, then perhaps I could carry an ornamental wooden sword as a symbol of trust, while still showing my 'status' as captain of the guard. It could also serve as a rudimentary self defense weapon to put my lord at ease, should he feel unreasonably threatened by some other shady guest." She says the last part with a smile, "This is not something we talked about previously while brainstorming for our plan, as it just came to my mind. I have used this tactic before on previous military missions as a way to get a weapon in where they weren't supposed to be allowed. However, I just thought this would be a way to further turn attention away from our other group members, and add more authenticity to our personas. Regardless as to whether or not we try this, or anyone thinks it is necessary, I wanted to ask. I do not want to ruin the mission simply by bringing something we were explicitly told to leave behind."
Aldara mulls this over. "The requirement for no violence is a parameter we, the instructors, have chosen to test your resourcefulness with your other skills besides combat. The weapon ban was not strictly required by the host of the gathering, although it would be a little unusual to bring an armed guard to what is essentially a private dinner party. I will let you decide what you carry, but the parameter remains in place. No violence unless there is immediate threat to life or limb. Those who carry weapons tend to use them when things get sticky."
"This mission shouldn't involve weapons, we were told that there shouldn't be any casualties. However, if it comes to it, I am always armed." Akyan says in response to Lyndaran. Then he answers Jhaartael, "I suppose we should..." After saying this he looks at Aldara then asks, "Do we know how accepting these people will be of a drow?"
Aldara smiles, "The variety of elvenkind on display will likely startle and delight them. I would be extremely surprised if anyone in this tiny village has ever had any contact with your people, Akyan. This is not a particularly xenophobic location. If you act friendly, you will likely be taken at face value. It's refreshing, really. Try not to mess that up for the rest of us."
Kyrsa smiles a little as Aldara answers Tamryn's long list of questions, and nods when Aldara answers her own question. "Ah, I understand. As I said before I have no intention of using the weapon. I trust my training to avoid using the weapon at all costs, assuming I am even able to get one through the doors. As for the oddity of it...I understand that as well, and it is not something I considered. The thought of a party caused my mind to turn to the ones I have attended in the past, which, though many were military related, were all large feasts held with many armed knights and guards. I would of course peace tie the weapon as is custom in such environments...at least where I'm from it is anyways." She shrugs, "Perhaps my knowledge of the customs of this area are limited, and I suppose I've also had limited experience with...personal dinner parties. However I see little purpose to bringing an unarmed guard for protection. So this might mean a change in role for me..." She pauses, turning to Jhaartael and Tamryn, "What are your thoughts on this? Should I still play the guard? Or should I be a retired military leader and trusted companion to Jhaartael? I think the later would still allow us to use the paranoid noble front, and I could still use my former military standard as an excuse to inspect security in order to 'put Jhaartael's mind at ease'."
"In which case I will pretty much be playing myself," she realizes. "Might as well put winter back on I suppose. The white hair might add to the illusion of age, humans won't know the difference. ...We'll see I suppose."
Akyan nods and thinks to himself, "Act friendly. Well we'll see how this goes." Then he responds, "It certainly will be refreshing." Unsure of what else to say, he turns back to the rest of the group. "So, what rolls are we all playing? Kyrsa is Jhaartael's guard, and Mina's a representative? Are we all just representatives? If so, what are we representing? Other than our race of course."
Jhaartael strokes his goatee and says, "Might I suggest that we each simply state that we are representatives from the region we naturally call home. We are from a diverse set of origins, and this could well signal a vast trading empire."
Jhaartael straightens then proposes, "Alright, allow me to go first, I shall be Trade-Master Correal, of the Trade House Qintael, an up and coming trade network based in Myth Drannor. I have interest in opening up promising avenues of trade, including goods and services, but also, that most precious trade asset of all - information. I have been informed that the business man of this town - do we have the man's and the town's names? - has shown initiative in acquiring all of the above and may be worth our while investing in."
"Fur" says even a little bit abruptly Lyndaran " I could be a merchant from southern Border Forest in search for a way to open fur trade from the north" he looks to others a little bit confused "That of course if those on the stealth team need of such disguise, but I do think it is better for me to pass as a servant of any of you... "
“I have to agree with Lyndaran,” Kyrsa says. “For those on the stealth team, we don’t want you to stand out. If each of us are potential business partners, it will be difficult for any of us to slip away. It would be best if all of the attention was focused on those of us not partaking in the stealth part.”
Akyan nods as Kyrsa explains her opinion. As much as he didn't want to play a servant, he probably wouldn't draw as much attention if he did. It would also allow him to be less suspicious while investigating some places. Though it could cause him to be more suspicious while investigating others. "Well, if I play a servant, I won't have to wear any of those ridiculous cloths." Wanting to hear the others thoughts, he remains silent on the matter.
Tamryn says, “I propose that the merchants go in first and collect intel. Then after what you find has been communicated, the stealth team can enter while you keep the businessman and his guards occupied. I think the best point of access is from the roof of a neighboring building to the second floor, then through a window.”
He looks at Akyan and Lyndaran. “I was thinking that our investors should have a manservant. I’m happy to play the role. Is that acceptable or would you prefer to have three on the stealth team? It’s just I think Jhaartael is right that having someone acquire intelligence from a servant’s perspective would be very valuable.”
(Once we decide on who is playing what, we should be ready. ;) )
Kyrsa notes Akyan's reaction, "Alright, Jhaarteal, I like that persona. I shall play Elkira of the Feywild. Former general and now personal guard and friend to Correal. Mina, would you like to play a tradeswoman from your home? Perhaps your persona received an invitation from Correal, and just entered into a business deal with Correal. Tamryn, Akyan, and Lyndaran can be servants to Correal." She clasps her hands in front of her, "Thoughts? Objections? Also, we all should come up with false names--or at least Mina should."
Kyrsa nods to Tamryn, glad to have someone agree with her about at least one person playing a servant.
"I think we should go with the servant idea," Akyan says looking at Tamryn. "If any of us sneak in, we would have to worry about being seen. If we act like servants, no one will question us being there. Plus, we have no idea what kind of security we are up against. This will give us the chance to see what we are up against before making any moves."
"I agree " says Lyndaran " Posing as your servants will give us a reason to be at the party, and some kind of alibi in case we are caught wandering one we go to look for the information "
Tamryn says, “Good! Then we shall all be servants. But what will be our roles? I think someone should be a valet and food taster for our dear paranoid master, which would put them in the kitchen where gossip flows. I would only be too happy to assume this role, unless one of you would prefer it. Perhaps someone could be a carriage driver, and use caring for the horses as an excuse to stay outside and search the grounds. Perhaps the third could be a clerk, who could go where documents go. Do either of you write well?”
"Ii can write and read but I could be more useful at with the horses and that could give me the freedom to sneak into the part of the mansion where the information is and then go back to the stables with it, so we have it outside the house, and get ready the scape route in case is necessary... " offers the wood elf in his quiet voice.
"I'd prefer to pose as the carriage driver." Akyan states, "Plus, I know a thing or two about horses. So if asked about anything, I'll be able to give believable answers. However, I'll need an excuse to enter the mansion if need be." He looks to Lyndarian, "If that's fine with you anyways... I can read and write, but probably not as well as the rest of you."
Mina listens to the plan and as Kyrsa asks about her, "Sure, I would be happy to be a tradeswoman. The sea elves are known for the fishing trade and that will be an easy cover. As for my name? Milena? Doesn't have to be any fancier than that, does it?"
Tamryn frowns, "This is a dilemma. But I know the solution! A duel! A duel of dancing! You two gentlemen shall dance for the ladies present and they shall decide who has the twinklier toes. Jhaartael and I will be your seconds, ready to step in if you twist an ankle. Or, perhaps I should be the clerk and the one of you who doesn't get the horses will be forced to spend an evening eating excellent food on Correal's behalf and gossiping with the cuter ones among the house staff."
(Feel free to come up with whatever outfit you desire. Percy's wardrobe really is extensive.)
Aldara mulls this over. "The requirement for no violence is a parameter we, the instructors, have chosen to test your resourcefulness with your other skills besides combat.
