"You ok?" asks Lyndaran peeking down the corridor too. "let's take a look to that doors quietly. I guess that we are looking for an office or private chambers of our host... " he says in his low voice, almost a whisper.
Akyan rises from his place at the table, carrying a drink in his hand, he makes his way over to the hearth. He tries to act natural as he does so. Once there he will examine the hearth looking for any places where something could be hidden. He is hoping Mina's distraction will divert most attention from him, and that anyone watching him will think he is just examining the craftsmanship.
Mina/Milena keeps an eye on her friends as she conducts her dance, and once it appears each has found where they wanted to go, she makes her big finale and heads back towards Loris as Kyrsa and the sheriff head off. "Oh! I hope you and your party didn't mind that I did that, I just well.. now I can have some of your delicious wild boar. Please, will you join me? I'd love to hear more about the town and your mine. It all sounds very interesting to me." She links arms with him as she asks and awaits his answer.
Jhaartael communicates via the telepathic link that "The Sheriff is skeptical that the documents which our host is blackmailing him with are in the office or lock box. Instead, he believes Master Donegal may keep them on his person - one of our company good at picking pockets might risk a chance with some help - he seems enchanted by Milena's performance. The sheriff also does not know where our host keeps his gold. Also, it seems our host does not take care of his miners... something we can perhaps use against him? We may want to let those down the corridor know that we are coming their way. Once in the office, I will see if I can discern anything else hidden there and let you know."
As Correal, he will hesitate giving his attache to Elkira. He will instead say to Loris, "Elkira ensures my safety, but I prefer to see my matters secured myself. I shall accompany the Sheriff as we secure the guild documents and shall be right back." Then, nodding toward the sea elf, "Anyhow, it appears that Milena desires your company."- adding a slight emphasis on 'desires'.
"I'll let them know. Though, if possible, it might be a good idea to get the Sheriff on our side. He is the one we are trying to help after all, and it might be useful if he knows what's going on."After replying to Jhaartael, Akyan tells Tamryn what Jhaartael just told him before adding. "Go ahead and search the rooms. You might as well since you are already there. If it comes to it, I'll deal try to search the host." He contemplates how he would go about doing so. Mina was in a far better position to try to pick-pocket him, but she doesn't know that she should. He would have to either find a way to contact her, which might mean he has to break the links he has with Tamryn and Jhaartael in order to create on with her. He decides to wait on doing this, at least until he gets some kind of response from the others.
Akyan feels confident that nothing is hidden in the fireplace hearth.
Loris' gaze is fixed on Mina, and when Jhaartael requests to accompany the sheriff, he waves his hand, "Fine, fine, no trouble at all, please satisfy yourself. We will discuss business later."
As the sea elf approaches and links arms with him, he takes a large swallow of wine, stands, and says, "Yes, of course, my dear. Please have a seat,"and then signals urgently towards one of the servants in the room.
[thoughts] What a goddess! ... What do I do?... I hope the deodorant cantrip is still working... good thing the wife is off visiting her sister in Rivertown.
Tymothy gives a slight bow and motions for Jhaartael and Kyrsa to follow him beyond the curtain barrier into the corridor where Tamryn and Lyndaran are deciding what to do...
Jhaartael relates to Akyan, "He seems entirely entranced by Mina, but keep a look out, he may have access to some lesser magics".
Correal will follow the Sheriff. Once they are alone, he will speak quickly and quietly to the Sheriff "Timothy, we are your friends. We have been sent by the Circle of Light. The Circle is concerned about the imbalance when a merchant gains leverage over an officer of the law. We are here to assist you in getting yourself from Loris' influence. We are to find and destroy what documents he may have that hold such leverage. How can we help you?"
Lyndaran opens the first door he comes to, and behind it there is a washroom, currently unoccupied, with a mirror, a tub, a basin with a nearby barrel of fresh clean water, some soap and some towels.
Kyrsa's eyes widen as Jhaartael tells the sheriff exactly who they are and what they are doing. She had been planning on asking the Sheriff if they could help him in a less...straightforward way. She had planned on asking his opinion of their host, and try to discern just how much of a hold he has on the Sheriff. What would happen now? "Gods above, this better not be a mistake. Hopefully no one was listening in. This might be the person we are trying to help, but we still shouldn't have told him who we are working for!"
Composing herself, she gives a stiff nod and hopes for the best, "Please do not repeat that information anywhere. We do not want to be known." She hesitates, "Regardless, if you have had the opportunity to look for the documents, it would be a great help to us to know where you have already checked so we don't waste time looking there. Clearly our host is either careless or overconfident, giving you such access to his home."
"Good to know." Akyan replies. Satisfied that there is nothing hidden in or behind the hearth, he looks back towards Mina. If he does not break contact with Jhaartael and Tamryn, he isn't sure how he would tell Mina that Loris may be a magic user, and may keep the documents on his person. He may be able to slip into the servants' area from where he's standing, but he doesn't want to leave Mina alone with their host. Deciding against breaking his current links, Akyan starts making his way towards Mina and Loris. Before he gets there, he will stop and get his drink re-filled. While doing this, he will examine Loris, attempting to see if there are any bulges or any other signs that he is hiding something under his cloths.
“Oh lovely!” Milena exclaims as she takes a seat with Loris. She makes a show of adjusting her garments after her dance to make sure everything is back in place.
“So, Master Loris, do tell me more about this mine of yours? Your whole operation sounds fascinating.” She looks at him like he is the only one in the room.
She hopes the fact she is doing what she can to distract the man is helping her team. She is completely out of her element and winging it. She is so much more used to being in the shadows, not the spotlight. She tries wracking her brain to think of what to ask him to get information but not alarm him…
Lyndaran decides he can hold it a little longer, and moves down the corridor.
Tamyrn opens the door on the west side of the corridor and finds a spacious library and gaming room, with bookshelves along the wall, and several tables set up for cards, dice, dragonchess and other amusements.
Tymothy escorts Jhaartael and Kyrsa behind the curtain, and then Jhaartael returns the favor, so to speak.
The sheriff stops in his tracks, eyes wide, a frown drawing down the corners of his moustache. His gaze travels from the wizard to the warrior, and back again. "Y'all seem nice and all, but I wouldn't exactly say we were friends just yet, no offense. I'm not one to turn down help, but I have no idea who these Circle people are, so I think you must be mistaking me for someone else. Why would you think Mr. Donegall has any... leverage over me?"
His gaze shifts to Kyrsa. "Ma'am, I really don't know what Mr.... uh... Correal is talking about, so there's nothing to reveal. Unless you are telling me you are part of a criminal organization, which would seem an odd thing to tell a sheriff, then it's none of my nevermind what you call yourselves. However, I will tell you that if you are here to steal from Mr. Donegall, I am obliged to prevent that, despite whatever differences he and I may have. I have given my oath to keep his home secure tonight, and I do not break that lightly."
He slowly moves his hand and rests it on his sword hilt. "Now, I'm going to give y'all a moment or two to give me a really good reason why I shouldn't detain you and inform Mr. Donegall that you're not who you claimed to be a few moments ago."
Meanwhile, in the banquet room, Akyan gets his drink topped off while observing Loris for bulges under his clothing.
As Mina feigns interest in the merchant and his business, he is positively flushed in the face, and with great relish begins to tell the story of the Hanging Dwarf mine, long abandoned, bought for pennies by great-grandpa Digby Donegall, worthless for generations until the recent discovery of precious ore in a long-collapsed shaft.
She is quite successful at distracting him, as far as she can tell.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kyrsa sighs, clearly this was not the best choice. If only she had telepathic abilities like Akyan, this could have been avoided through such communication. She pointedly keeps her hand away from her wooden sword--not that it would do much good to fight with anyways. Nodding in understanding she says, "You are an honorable man, Sheriff, I admire that. You seem willing to do your job even if it means protecting the person who is blackmailing you. Rest assured that we have no intention of stealing from our host or anyone else at this party. All we are here for are the papers he is using to hold against you. We were instructed to burn them, unopened, simply to remove any leverage over you and allow you to carry out your duties unhindered. However, since you now know what our purpose is, if we were to find them we would willingly give them back to you if you so wish." She pauses, hoping she isn't making a mistake by speaking up, "Also, who says I am not who I claim to be?" She pulls out her writ of service, keeping it folded so that her real name doesn't show. "These badges and knots are authentic, though I am no longer in service. I left my position because I was weary of serving corrupt individuals, much like this Donegall. I value honor above all else, especially in those who seek to keep the law. The reason we revealed our purpose to you is because we thought it fair to know what is going on."
She pauses, watching him, "I understand your hesitance to trust us, but we are under strict orders to avoid violence. No one here is going to get hurt. Personally, I am more willing to leave this party without finishing our mission, then to allow a single drop of blood to be spilled."
Correal would have assisted Elkira by reassuring that we are well intended and to take our honesty as a pledge of that.
In addition, he would keep an eye out for the rest of the party who may be down the hall from them, ready to be discovered at a moments notice. Hopefully this discussion is giving them the time they need to get hidden - telepathic link to Akyan "I may have blown our cover - seeing how the sheriff takes the truth - tell those looking for the office to get hidden fast!"
If things start to go bad, Jhaartael will Ready his Hypnotic Gaze to give us a little more time to decide what to do.
