Marvin catching Amy's gestures falls back into the break room and returns to the group with four donuts, handing two of them off to Amy. "They didn't have much of an assortment. I think Barry ate all the good ones."
The drow man smiles in appreciation as Maggie replies. "I can only imagine at some of those requests. Thank you. I appreciate the help. I'm unsure when exactly I will be returning but my room has become a meeting place so if Mr. Inquisitive or Ms. Amy show up before me they have my permission to enter without me there." After thanking Maggie and leaving a tip of a few silver pieces Nyral Heads out with the other two. He tries to take stalk of the small gnome woman who seems all business. Trying to get a sense of how she is. He knows shes very intelligent. Not one to let any slight clue go unnoticed. Is she a by the books detective or someone a bit more loose on their approach? A question to figure out. As the trio walk he takes step next to Truador and just takes note of how small the town is compared to his own home city.
Getting up to the apartment complex Nyral is a bit surprised to find one at first. He wasn't sure it was large enough to support one but then again, there is a circus in town. Perhaps the mayor is trying to grow the town and make it more prosperous. Commissioning a place to house many people would be key in bringing in more folks to settle here. It seems like a newer building too which makes sense. Spotting a tall elf checking the mail from one of the mail boxes that seem to serve the entire complex Nyral assumes they are a tenant of some kind.
Nyral looks back at the elf as they seem nervous and nods in agreement with their companions. "No need to fret sir. It's as my companions say. Are you one of the tenants here? We only just arrived and are looking for either the proprietor of these apartments or at least some guidance to Calda's former place of residency. If you do stay here, mind if I ask a few questions about the building itself? Just basic things like what kind of security it has, does one require a key to enter the apartment building and such."
He waits as you answer his question, eyes growing wide. His gaze shifts rapidly between the three of you and after a minute of silence he speaks again. "I'm her roommate. Nym. It's on floor two. Room 206. Door's locked, I have the key." Though his voice sounds calm, you see him blink away tears. It looks like he could break the floor with how hard he's staring at the tiled floor. He places the mail back in the open mailbox behind him and reaches into his pocket, pulling out a set of keys and grabbing the one with a red rubber cover. Unsure of what to do, he holds it out in front of him for you to take.

"Alrighty." Barry opens the door and holds it open for you. Once you're all through, he waits until Marvin's brought the donuts and leads you all down the hallway to an office with the door closed. "But I haven't eaten any today. Been up all night at the front desk and didn't get the chance to snag a bite." The plaque on the door reads: Det. Sergeant Yul, Head of Investigation Unit. He raps lightly on the door, and opens it after a gruff voice replies, "Come in." A barn-owl Aaracockra---supposedly this "Det. Sergeant Yul"---sits with tented hands at a desk with papers spread neatly across its surface. He side-eyes Barry as he introduces your group. "Hey, Yul! Oh, sorry. Good morning, Sergeant Yul." Barry corrects his nonchalantness immediately when he meets Yul's gaze, snapping up straight. "The Private Investigators the Mayor hired are here to ask questions about your side of the investigation. I hope you're not busy." To which the aaracockra replies, using a hand to brush away something near his beak, "Not at all, Barryl. Take a seat, and we can talk more." Once you're all situated, Barry closes the door behind you and Yul continues in a very buisnesslike manner, "My name is Sergeant Yul, and I am the head of the Investigative unit at the EPD. Now, what are your names, and what do you need?"

"Hello Nym. My name is Nyral." Nyral offers his only arm to shake with. Whether they take it or not Nyral follows up with "I'm sorry for your loss. I know it may be hard to talk about it but I'm sure out here isn't the place to do so. Why don't you lead the way for us? Tell us a bit about yourself as we make our way. What do you do for work?" Nyral gestures for the elf to lead the way to room 206 trying to seem friendly and be patient as it seems to the drow that they are still hurting from the loss. Nyral tries to encourage him to talk about himself instead of Calda as they make their way trying to help the man feel more comfortable as they make their way.
Inquisitive watched the interaction between the detective sergeant and his subordinate with a small smile, then taking a seat as instructed. "Thank you for seeing us Detective Sergeant Yul, we will appreciate to cooperate with the EPD on this investigation." The tiefling started with a polite smile. "My name is Inquisitive Embershade and this is my associates Amy and Marvin. We were hoping to get some more information about this case."He said, now leaning back comfortably in his chair before continuing. "First of all we would like an update on any new information you would have pertaining to the case. Then it would be helpful if you could tell us where we could find Tare Onshaneo-Shadowdancer. We would also like to know what you can tell us about the deaths of the parents of Elibyn Ambershadow. We've learned that they were refugees from Jovin when they came here but that they were hunted down and killed."Inquisitive stopped and waited with further questions to let Detective Sergeant Yul answer the ones already put to him.
Truador will follow Nyral and Nym to Calda's room. He wanted to assure the wood elf of how they would make the murderer pay for their crimes, but he wasn't sure if that was the best thing to do. As he walks, he clenches and un-clenches his fists. He can't stand seeing people upset about lost loved ones, it made him want to rip the throats out of those who caused such pain. He wanted to make them suffer. He shakes himself, he could feel his bloodlust rising. Swallowing his excess saliva, he calms his nerves. No point in getting worked up right now. They still don't know who the killer is.
Zanibi is relieved Nyral had stepped in to talk to Nym. Sure, she could tell he was grieving, but in her curiosity she was only thinking that it could be helpful to have a first-hand account of how exactly the death occurred.
The gnome follows the others in heading to the apartment.
"Right." Nym puts away the key, and grabs your hand, shaking it weakly. "Thank you. It means a lot." Though he continues to stare at the floor as he leads you up the stairs, he relaxes a little. "I don't work. At least not now. It's summer and I've been let out of school." Two flights of stairs later, you've arrived. He unlocks the door with shaky hands, struggling to fit the key in the lock. Some of his long hair forms a curtain in front of his face, and he has to keep pushing it away in order to see. His movements become frantic as you see him get increasingly frustrated, until he finally is able to put the key in the lock. Once he has the door unlocked the door swings open. It's light on its hinges and doesn't make a sound. "The room's here." The elf visibly swallows, and finally looks at the three of you again. "Please don't... don't mess up too much."
You step into a tiny dining room/kitchen, complete with a single table with two chairs. And that's about as far as furnishings go; the designated eating space is pretty bare otherwise. The kitchen, however, looks relatively full of different pots and pans, knives, spatulas; all are hanging from the walls. Its kept nice and tidy, too.
(I'll wait until later to post the next group, in case Marvin or Amy want to sneak in a post.)

Zanibi nods to Nym. "We will certainly take great care. I think Nyral might have wanted to speak with you a bit, if you think you could manage? We'll try and be quick." She steps inside trying to get a feel for the place. (Perception: 7)
Nyral nods to Zanibi and says "Yeah, me and you can talk, no need to be nervous Nym. You're not under suspicion or anything we are just trying to piece things together. My coworkers here know what they are doing too, so they won't make too much a mess." Nyral looks around the thinly furnished room and points to the table with two chairs. He ushers the elf into the kitchen not really giving them an option unless they try to flee seeing how nervous they are he tries not to spook them and says "Let's sit at that table there. You said you're a student? What of?" hopefully guiding then to the table to sit he begins the talk like a normal conversation. Again trying to show the elf that he has nothing to worry about. After asking about his classes he follows up with how he feels he did this semester. He then asks where Nym would recommend to eat around here and really keep it casual for a bit. Thus, keeping him focus on Nyral while the others searched and hopefully helping the man relax.
After a bit of the more casual conversation Nyral does eventually say "We should probably get to the important topic though. I know it might be hard to recount but could you tell me what happened leading up to her death? Anything out of the ordinary will be helpful. I'd like to hear your telling of events. Again, I know it's hard but the more information we have the better we can act." Nyral is being careful not to give away any details of what he knows now. Nyral can see the man is very nervous and the drow can't help but think there is something on his mind worrying him a lot. Nyral has a couple ideas what it is but until he hear's Nym's story is he's holding off from acting on his thoughts.
As Nyral goes to talk to the elf, Truador starts investigating the room. He looks for any signs that the room has been tampered with since the murder. (If that's even possible given how long ago it happened) He also looks for anything out of the ordinary or anything that might hold any information. He refrains from touching any of the more personal items in the room, unless absolutely necessary, as he does not wish to upset their host anymore than he already is.
"It's nice to meet you, Inquisitive, Marvin, Amy." Hands still tented, Yul waits until Inquisitive finishes. "Right. I remember them. I wasn't on that case, and the officer who was retired a year ago, but we might have some old paperwork from that investigation in the room behind the reception desk. Once we're done here, feel free to ask Barryl for those papers." He adjusts his wings to allow him to lean back in his chair as well. He continues to answer your questions, working backwards. "Considering the active crime scenes are all in residencial buildings that are currently occupied, we've gone ahead and relocated them all to the Lazy Peacock while we investigate. That's where Calda's roommate, Nym, should be, and where Tare now resides. As for the case itself," He gets up from his seat, looking over the papers on his desk. He collects a few into a neat pile and hands a third to each of you. "Here you'll find all the reports we've done so far that have led somewhere. All these other papers are dead ends or shots in the dark. Barryl should also have one or two of our most recent statements and reports," He raises his voice for the next part, "that were supposed to be filed away last night." In response, a very faint "Sorry, sir!" can be heard from outside the room. "So, you can check with him later for those papers as well."
The papers he hands to you are a mix of pictures of the crime scenes you've already visited and what you can only assume is Calda's apartment, the autopsy report and evidence summary that you've already seen, and a few new papers. One is a wad of paperwork that appears to be the application to get Thaymoor an autopsy appointment at "Pisor Central Hospital," and the other is an "Investigation Report."
The decedent is a 56-year-old male found deceased in his bedroom by his wife.
Description of Incident:
On 05/35/3325 at 2217 hours, the undersigned received a call from EPD Officer Heightenhower. Officer Heightenhower was calling to report the death of Thaymoor Shadowdancer, T/M, DOB: 01/03/3269 at the Shadowdancer home, 7203 Rye St. Per Officer Heightenhower, the decedent's wife Tare Onshaneo-Shadowdancer C/N, DOB: 05/34/3268 was taking care of the extremely ill decedent for approx. 3 days. Officer Heightenhower had little details regarding circumstances or last seen time alive. The decedent was living with his wife, in their home (address stated above). Next-of-kin and medical history were unknown at the time of the initial call.
The undersigned informed Officer Heightenhower that Investigator Yul would be responding to the scene and the decedent would be transferred to PCH for an autopsy on 06/01/3325.
Investigator Yul reported that the Esperal Police Department is investigating the possibility that Thaymoor Shadowdancer was poisoned. Nothing has been confirmed at this time and the investigation is still ongoing.
It looks dusty. The apartment is covered in another thin layer of dust, and the air is stagnant. No one's been in this room for a few days, you figure. There's a door leading to what you can only assume is a bedroom next to the kitchen, and not much else.
Truador:
No signs of tampering are present. Everything is covered in a thin layer of dust, having collected over the past few days. There's a door that leads to what you can only assume is a bedroom, next to the kitchen. At least here, there isn't much else.
Sighing, Nym tentatively approaches the table and sits down next to you, Nyral. He pulls his knees up to his chest and rests his head on them. "This is my... fifth time going to university. Right now, I'm studying mycology in Pisor." You can see he's reluctant to answer any more questions, so you move on. As you ask him your last question, he shifts in place and rests his forehead on his knees, effectively blocking you from view. "It started before she died. She'd been caught shoplifting something from the tradepost, and was put on house arrest. A few days into the house arrest, she got sick." He pauses, and curls up into an even tighter ball. He's gripping his arms and his knuckles are now white. "Like really sick. On the rare occasion that she was able to fall asleep, she'd spend the whole time tossing and turning, and wake up screaming. It was hard but I would try to be there for her. I'd do everything I could, I swear, to make her feel comfortable. I tried my hardest..." His voice grows loud and shaky and you hear him start to cry. He spends the next few minutes stifling his sobs, and when he's finally calmed down a little his voice quiet drifts out from behind his knees, "What was the question again?"
Nyral lets him cry. Lets the elf grieve. It was clear to Nyral the two were more then just roommates or at least he felt that way. He instead tries to sound as calm and understanding as possible as he says "I believe you did try everything you could. Trying desperately to save someone you care for. No one here doubts that. No one here thinks you didn't try your best. I've only asked the one question so far Nym. I'm letting you answer at your own pace. It's hard enough losing someone close to you without someone pressuring you for answers so just take your time and we can take it one question by one question. If you have any questions for me feel free to ask as well. If you're up for it my next question is: was there anyone that visited her before she got sick, any out of the ordinary visits here before she got sick?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Zanibi heads right for the only door in the place, other than the one they came in. She heads into that room, takes a quick look about, then starts to investigate.
Finding nothing of interest, Truador follows Zanibi into the bedroom. "Well, we know they all suffered from nightmares now. Just as suspected. Though the part about the shoplifting is interesting." Is deep voice rumbles in his throat, though he sounds like he is speaking to himself more than anyone else. Upon entering the bedroom, he starts investigating as well.
"Happy to go and speak with Tare."Marvin responds to Amy before turning to Inquisitive "Say, do we still have the other reports? I'd like to take a look at them, and never got the chance."
Inquisitve listened and nodded politely as the detective sergeant spoke. "Yes, we will speak to Tare an Nym when we get back to the Lazy Peacock." He turned to Amy and confirmed in a calm but firm voice. "The reports are all back at Nyral's suite. It would be good if you read up on them when you get the chance Marvin." He then said to the bearded man with a polite smile before turning his attention back to the detective sergeant.
"Would it be possible to speak with the retired officer too? It could prove very helpful." The tiefling continued as he quickly glanced through his third of the papers handed out by the detective sergeant, then waiting to look at the papers handed to Amy and Marvin. "We will of course be glad to have what else you can provide us with on our way out. Two more things before we leave though. Would you know of anyone in Esparal with extensive knowledge about the war that forced Elibyn's parents to come here. Also, I would like to hear your own theories about what has happened."He finishes with a polite smile.

Group 1: Zanibi, Nyral, Truador
Zanibi:

Amy reads through it. "And this is everything you know?" She asks.
She also turns to Marvin and Inquisitive. "Should we speak with Tare?"

"Happy to go and speak with Tare." Marvin responds to Amy before turning to Inquisitive "Say, do we still have the other reports?
Also, I would like to hear your own theories about what has happened." He finishes with a polite smile.
