Obliging Morris stands and takes Gewyn out of the room, and into the side room. A copy of him returning to the bar once more and quickly closing the door, before sitting back down and burying his head in his hands.
Muir nods to Gewyn and continue to say nothing only listening and watching....He watches Elthana burst out of the tavern after saying something about Molly's memories....Molly, Molly, where has he heard that name before...Oh right Sam's dead wife. Why would her death upset Elthana? Why is Vin crying in the corner? Why did Elthana mention killing Vin's parents and Gewyn's one true love.....odd...he sits and waits to hear what Sam has to say next.
Sam... stalls, for lack of a better word. With Elthana's outburst, fully deserved and far less violent than it could have been, Sam is torn on how to react and the indecision more or less short circuits his brain.
Morris deserves a punch in the face and Sam sorely wants to step up and give it to him. Sure, he's an "aspect of death", whatever that means, and already is not fond of Sam right now because of his undeadness... He still deserves it. He knew all this and held it back all this time why? To heighten the drama? The bastard! But even still, it's not so much that as the piling on with the bit about Valerie. The shit had already hit the fan and settled down, there was no point of adding to the spray other than to hope to... what?
Sam deserves a drink. That all was too much and a half. It was a punch to his own face. He had dealt with it but he wasn't really sure how to deal with it. It was a lot... Losing himself in a pint or twelve sounded just fine... But it really wouldn't help anything. Never does. No matter how tempting.
Should he follow Elthana? Or give her time to process everything herself? Damn there is no knowing with women. Ever. If there were instruction manuals they'd be in a different language... more confusing than those showing how to put together furniture... And for an entirely different make and model than the one you had. There never is a right answer... Or Sam, at least, never knew it...
So Sam stood there stuck in indecision...
Then it occurs to him that Elthana is alone... So he turns and follows her.
Sam keeps his distance. He follows and lets it be known he has but he doesn't approach her. If she needs to be alone at least she knows she's not alone while she is alone.
Neferox pushes the top of her head into Vin's chest playfully and exposes her neck for scritches. Vin instead wraps his arms her around neck and holds the position for a while, before giving her scorches she wanted.
He chuckles at something unheard by anyone else in the room, and then looks around, wiping his eyes on his sleeve, noticing only Morris and Muir are now there.
Looking across to Muir, he asks tentatively, "Did you like what Morris showed you?". It was only a little olive branch, but it was all he had the energy for.
Muir turns to Vin "Yes! It was enlightening. I learned so much and it'll come in useful once I get my hands on some more research and books about these portals. I uhh....apologize for earlier. My need for knowledge does come from a good place......despite my errr button pushing"
Morris begins polishing a tankard that obviously doesn't need it and leans over the bar, "Muir's thirst for knowledge meant I actually had to dive into twenty memories to give him what he wanted, I had to speed up tye passage of time from his perspective to get it all done quick enough" he smiles and raises an eyebrow at vin as if to say, 'can you believe it!'
He then lets out a big sigh, "I should apologise to Sam and Elthana about the comment. I do hope they return soon, Sam hasn't even gotten his chance to see the library yet."
Vin smiles at Muir, "Tempers flaring seems to be common place right now. I am glad you found Morris's library enlightening, I hope it provided more answers than questions".
When Morris mentions going to apologise to Sam and Elthana, he gives a little shrug, "I will admit I missed a lot of what passed between you and they, but if you feel you must, it is likely the correct thing to do".
At this he looks back to Muir, "I do know you mean well, Muir. I am sorry I snapped at you, but rather me than her". He tugs on Neferox's ear playfully as he says this, prompting her to push him over.
"you seemed distracted whilst Sam and Elthana spoke, young Vincent, upset maybe. I've learned from the memories and experiences of others that sometimes one feels directly responsible or guilty for another's actions. If this was the case, you should know that fighting or tense situations within the group aren't all your burden to bear. Communication is key, but hang on to that streak if empathy you have. Empathy, I have learned, can be the knifes edge that separates the well intentioned from the less so..." Morris offers, getting the complete wrong end if the stick.
“Indeed, indeed….communication is key. I’ve tried to be honest and tell everyone what I know but perhaps I’ll stop since it seems my questions cause grief. I’ll quietly go about my business so not to cause trouble….I am sorry”
"Distracted is certainly one word for it", he says with a frown. "What Elthana and Sam are going through is another level, but I do not feel any guilt or responsibility if that is what you mean", he says a little confused. "My distraction came from elsewhere".
At Muir's statement he looks back to the Loxodon, "Telling us what you know is helpful, Muir. And appreciated. It is when you don't know things for certain, or at all, it becomes a problem. That is when you start asking those around you questions, sometimes rather judgementally when you suspect you have the answer and want to dig it out".
Neferox lets out a bark of agreement.
"Like I said earlier, I know it comes from a good place, it is just your way".
Morris looks puzzled and interested when vin mentions that his distressed distraction came from elsewhere, but as the boy continues and speaks to Muir, the moment he is finished the front door clicks open once again and in comes Sam and Elthana.
Muir looks at the pair and nods "I hope everything is ok. I admit I don't know what's going on....." He lingers a split second thinking about asking but instead sits on the couch where Xazgan was saying nothing.
Elthana is completely spent and worn out as she enters the tavern. She gives Muir a wan smile and nods, "Surprisingly, yes. Other than Sam is still undead. Something that needs to be fixed."
She takes a seat immediately and looks around at her surroundings, wanting to get her thoughts away from Sam and Molly. She notices Vin and sees how visibly upset he is. "Vin? Are you alright? Did Morris show you something to upset you, I thought that went well?"
"I'm fine... Fine..." Sam assures in regards to his undead status. "Having not died, I like to think of it as living impaired...." He looks around but doesn't see much sign that his joke is going over well.
"Yeah, well..." he adds with a shrug and goes to the bar and gets two drinks, bringing one back to Elthana.
"Just what is Morris doing to you all?" Sam asks after Elthana brings up the topic. He lowers his voice a bit and casts a sidewise look towards Morris as he does so. "It is a bit odd, isn't it? His 'helping' us like this? The first time I thought it was just a weird coincidence or something but this second time? Seems a bit suspicious if ya asks me... What do we think he really wants with us?"
Vin smiles across to Elthana, typical of her to notice his troubles in the midst of her own.
"I am fine. Just been having a heart to heart with Neferox. With so much going on, probably no need to explain right now. I have a bit to process before I would want to anyway. But it's all good. The truth will set you free, and all that", he says, glancing at Muir as he says the last part.
When Sam starts questioning Morris's motives, he looks across at the old man, a little uncomfortable with the way he was being talked about as if he wasn't present.
"In truth, Sam, I think we can use all the help we can get. You should let him show you his library, it really is worth it. It is a unique opportunity you shouldn't pass up".
Morris cocks a head to the side as Sam questions his motives, but says nothing on the subject for now. Instead he looks over to Elthana. "I owe you an apology... both of you. I overstepped a line and I'm sorry. Emotions are running high I understand, and it was not my place nor my right to supply the additional information that I did."
Muir nods "Indeed....the truth will set you free. I had no issues with Morris in his library." Muir answers in short to Sam's question without giving anything away
"I'm not saying he's not helpful," Sam replies to the others in the same hushed voice. "But a godlike aspect being helpful? On multiple occasions? You have to assume there is some kind of ask or payback or something down the line, don't you?" Sam wouldn't trust a rich person who acted altruistically, he certainly isn't going to trust a helpful god out of hand.
Obliging Morris stands and takes Gewyn out of the room, and into the side room. A copy of him returning to the bar once more and quickly closing the door, before sitting back down and burying his head in his hands.
