Kiara stands shocked before translating for Granngord who takes a moment for the information to sink in and then becomes quite happy and animated, gesturing for you all, Kiara included, to accompany him to a seating room to sit and discuss. "Meeting lumithor is amazing!!! you went across the lightning fields then?" Kiara asks excitedly as you walk.
The room you find yourselves in has a few crystal benches in a circle and a heating stone propped up In the center, the furnishings seem old, chipped and scratched but practical and workable. Granngord eases himself onto a bench, and Kiara sits on the floor facing Muir and the other two, close to the heating stone warming her hands.
"Well, I'm not wearing this lightning-resistant outfit for the fashion statement," Gewyn jokes. "Aye, we went across, and there were a few near misses. When you dance with lightning, you have to be ready for a quick tempo. But it was worth it, to meet Lumithor in the flesh. Well..."
Elthana walks with the girl, enjoying her enthusiasm and wonders what her life is like in this place. She takes a seat by the warming crystal and waits to see what is going to happen next.
The meeting starts with genuine interest from the old kobold asking, and being translated eagerly through the little shadar-kai girl, what purpose they had with lumithor and the gate, what they got up to there, what they mean by Gewyn's new blessings, and what specifically the church can help you all with?
Kiara seems ready for a good story and helpfully translates to Granngord in Auran, back the things you say to her in elvish.
Muir smiles and does his best to recount the story...most of it. "So we visited Lumithor to ask for a favor for our world...we traveled through the lightning fields with the help of Serafina. She is from these parts. Well we got there and we helped Lumithor who helped us. He still stands guard but in spirit form. Once we finished with each others favors he suggested we pray to the Raven Queen. We all did and because we helped her guardian she in the form of Morris gave each of us a blessing. My blessing is quite boring to most people but I can read any language even though I cannot speak it...Bring me something in Auran and I can read it but speaking it is quite difficult for me. That is our story in short."
As you recount the story in detail, Elthana and Gewyn offering supplemental details as the story goes on, Kiara sits enraptured and awestruck, needing encouragement here and there to translate for Granngord as she keeps becoming so engrossed she forgets her job in the situation.
There are many follow up questions of what things were like, how lightning strikes feel, what lumithor is like, what prayer was said to summon Morris, what Morris looks like, what other gifts were given. Most of the questions are eagerly asked by the young shadar-kai, but as she translates, the more poignant questions are asked by Granngord, who also seems rapt in an old man kind of way.
When the story is done, Granngord does indeed pull a small rubbery scroll from his robe and set it in front of Muir, the scratchings of the draconic language are gibberish to Elthana and Gewyn, but Muir begins to recognise the distinctions and leter forms and begins to read... a shopping list.
At this feat Granngord pills a quill that looks very similar to a large parrot feather, and scratches in new words this time in Auran. Again Muir figures out the distinctions between letters and reads out, "I am glad for your safe return, you are all truly blessed. You mentioned lore and history, I will see what we have but is there anything particular you would like to research?"
Muir motions to Granngord if he can use the quill and write some things down.
Muir attempts to write in Auran, hypothesizing how far his boon works, and asks if they have any history about portals and the last time it was opened....for starters :o)
Granngord looks at the writing and then says something to Kiara in a confused tone, "you want to know more about opening potholes? Granngord says that the church doesn't really encourage vandalisms of our community walkways..." She chirps up and giggles.
Muir laughs clearly the writing of languages doesn’t come with the reading of them. “Looks like I’ll need to practice haha….Portals translate portals please”
Kiara does and Granngord buries his draconic chin into his hands deep in thought before having an idea and leading the group out of the room.
You cross the hall and enter another room which is set out with old crystal tables that have seen better days, a painted wall is drawn on with some kind of chalk and the whole vibe reminds at least Elthana and Gewyn of a classroom.
Granngord leads you all through this room and into another, smaller room with a set of bookshelves, the shelves themselves are not filled to the brim, in fact there seems to be a lot of space for more, but of the few scrolls and bound 'books' that are there, each one seems well worn and has the indicators of being used over and over for either educational or recreational reading. Granngord speaks and as he does Kiara translates, "many of the pages here are stories, fiction for the children, like me! Kids who come here to learn to read and write, there are some factual scripts too, some about the way things were before when the isles were unified, before the other isles saw us as less..." at that Granngord pats Kiara reassuringly on the shoulder, and she loses a little of the spark in her energy, but continues to translate regardless, "you're welcome to read all you like, but Granngord recommends this one on the history of beings and their origins, says it isn't linked directly to the portals but it has sole infor on where some people came from which might help?"
Muir smiles "Thank You...sometimes behind a story there lies truth. I am going to spend some time reading here and asking questions, Elthana and Gewyn....You are welcome to stay and I can translate for you or you can go. Whichever you prefer." And with that Muir picks up the first book and begins reading.
Elthana is amused by the small child. She wasn't used to being around kids at all, and seeing one that was a shadow elf... well, it got to her as well. She followed the rest and as they settled into the school-like atmosphere, she finally asks, "Do you have any books of the Shadowfell? In particular how it was before Nectyran? I would love to know more about where my people, I mean our people.. " she smiles at Kiara, "are from."
Kiara gets excited again and chimes in with "oooh! I can tell you about that, we learn about our heritage and things I can tell you if you like! Do you not know about it? I made drawings! Come to my room I can show you!"
Elthana smiles as the girl gets animated. Looking to Muir and Gewyn, she just shrugs then back to the girl, "I'd love to see them." And she follows the girl out of the room.
Gewyn's eyes light up at the mention of stories and children's fiction. "Hmm, I would actually love to spend just a little bit of time perusing the fictions of your people. What is your favorite story that you have a copy of here, Kiara? And don't worry about translating. It won't be an issue for me."
Kiara looks impressed and before she leaves takes a look at the selection on display, in an exaggerated pose she puts a finger to her lips and 'thinks' for a moment, before energetically picking out a certain scroll and handing it to Gewyn, "I love this one, when I cime back you'll have to tell me what you think!" And with that she leads Elthana out, skipping as she goes.
Muir finishes reading the scroll and looks to find Granngord and then realizes Granngord doesn't understand him. He looks for another elf for translations purposes. If he does, Muir never shy to ask questions, says to Granngord "Thank You for that. I was wondering if there was any history on the last time Thaeir's portal was opened? If not who do you think would have that knowledge? The dwarven history was quite enlightening! Thank you very much."
After some searching Muir finds a dragonborn who speaks a little common and follows along to translate Muir's questions into draconic for Granngord.
Granngord pulls from his black robes an old notebook made of the same thick rubbery parchment that the scrolls are made from, as well as a sharp crystal writing tool. Granngord explains that each caretaker of the raven house before him had kept notes on those who have had contact with the raven queen. Through the ages the notes have been condensed and rewritten. Granngord flips back through the book and reads out an entry from before the isle was broken and before the kobolds were treated as vermin. "An Elvish man named Stryder, reported a sighting of the raven queen in a vision. A warning was given that the portals across all realms would close soon, that the residual arcanum was needed to cast one very powerful spell. Those notes do not contain where or when specifically this spell would take place or who it was cast by. Stryder came to report this sighting only because of the inclusion of the raven queen, though he said the warning itself was pertinent to him because of his job. The notes do not include what job Stryder had." Granngord flips through towards the back of the book and finds himself a fresh page and then through his dragonborn translator, asks Muir, "you said you had also met with the queen, or an aspect, did they give you any warning or important information?" Before the question is even fully translated, granngord already has the notebook on the table and is writing in a header for the note in draconic, Muir reads his own name and given title being written and granngord looks up to him eagerly waiting.
Kiara stands shocked before translating for Granngord who takes a moment for the information to sink in and then becomes quite happy and animated, gesturing for you all, Kiara included, to accompany him to a seating room to sit and discuss. From the section Gewyn went off to, the soft sound of pipe music begins to drift, occasionally stopping and restarting as he works on a new song.
After some searching Muir finds a dragonborn who speaks a little common and follows along to translate Muir's questions into draconic for Granngord.

Elthana looks around and sees Vin, Nef and Griff once she leaves the Raven house. "Any luck with the potions shop? Where's Sam?"
