Hearing what is going on over at the male Roc, Elthana cannot stand back any longer. She walks over to it, slowly as to not startle either of them. As Muir calls out for more light, she touches the loxodon and sends some of her ki energy to him, giving him the ability to have dark vision for 8 hours.
"Do you really think you can get them out?" She looks to Vin as he has his suggestion and is curious what he means by this.
Vin looks unsure, “Yeah you have a point. And if these worms are somehow resistant to necrotic damage themselves it is likely they wil survive. But how can you get them out such a large bird?”.
"Well back home I used herbs to kill the worms in animals but that was in the gut....This is a bit different...Hector or Griff maybe have insight into the worms in this world before I make my calculations?" Muir says loudly enough for Hector and Griff to answer "What can you tell me about the worms here gentlemen?"
Hector approaches hesitantly and addresses the question. "I have spent many years in this realm and studied many things but, I can't say worms are one of them."
Griff, not wanting to be lured into a trap, stays where he is with Gewyn and Neferox, but calls over. "worms are being parasites. I am not sure what this is being but it could be one of two things... I am having a bad feeling, be checking its backside. If it is not being red then we are having a problem."
The female Roc looks over to the sound and looks as if she is about to go investigate, but then thinks better of it and crows at Muir.
“Well since you’re not be needing me then,” Sam says and takes a couple steps back away from the exam. “Have you asked what they fought? What killed the young? Where the worms came from? Maybe salt them like slugs?”
Muir gets up to look at the bird's rear end "Yes it was a sneak attack it appears. When I asked neither had any idea about worms or the attack. It may of occurred while they slept."
"if it is not being red then it is not being a slipworm... The slipworm is burrowing deep into your bowel and is coming out at night for air, but it is not using the holes it made, if you are understanding what I am saying... The resulting movement is leaving red soreness. Slipworm is easier to kill than the other thing, and would being less upsetting for the Roc's ..." Griff responds worriedly, still not moving from his place.
With Muir's newfound Darkvision only giving him the benefit of greyscale sight he chooses to take Sam's coin to the rear end of the massive Roc. Lifting it's tailfeathers and shining the coin, the roc reacts, confused and disgruntled by the examination, Sam easily calms the bird, stroking at its beak and speaking in a soothing tone as it displays its discomfort.
Unfortunately Muir sees no soreness from the ass of the bird.
Muir walks back to the group "It is bad news. It is not a slipworm as Griff mentioned. The darkvision was helpful thank you Elthana. I am afraid We will have to open the wounds a bit and try to see the worms that way. I suggest if we see the worm we try to entice it out or I can try to pull it out if I see it. Any suggestions or thoughts? "
Elthana shudders as Muir gives his report. She doesn't have anything to add, but as Sam pets the poor creature, she walks around it wondering what is really going on.
"Perhaps you just slap a salve on it and tell them it'll all be better in two days?" Sam says, really not into worms or bowels or digging into gigantic destructive beasts... "That way... uh... We could have them thinking we helped... but, err... Go on and do what we... need to do...."
Sam seems distracted a bit and trails off, his attention repeatedly drawn to the distraught Roc. Or, he realizes after a moment, behind it.
"I think there's something back there..." he says in a hushed tone and signals that he is going to step lightly behind the bird to check it out...
As Elthana slowly and hesitantly moves around to the back of the Injured Roc, it reacts, moving to block her and screeching out a warning. There's something instinctive about such a primal scream which raises the hairs in the back of the necks of anyone who hears it, even in animal form a parent is a parent and when it comes to protecting their children in a dire situation, unpredictability becomes the order of the day. Everyone realises that despite Muir's magical charming of these creatures, a fight could still break out with one false step.
"What is happening? Was it being red?" Griff calls out
As the Roc screeches and Sam sees Elthana walking that way, Sam grabs out and tries to pull her back out of harms way. "Careful now, something has it riled up..." he says.
Sam then goes back to making soothing noises and gestures towards the Roc, soft soothing notes of a half-forgotten lullaby accompanying him as he does. (Minor Illusion unconsciously triggered to add some sleepytime lullaby music.)
Muir scolds everyone “Stop scaring them. They do not trust you all and barely trust Sam and I. Stay behind me or go back to the wall. If you want to help tell me so I can relay the message. As Sam said there’s movement back there…Let me relay this to the birds before you get us all maimed”
Muir screeches a bit at the birds and quickly turns to the others and firmly says "Stay Here. Their unhatched eggs are back there.....Do not go back there unless I say so."
"Yes sir, Mr. Muir, I didn't realize I had to get your permission to do anything. I know there are the eggs back there, and one is slightly moving... I don't know if it is about to hatch or if it is something else." She let's Sam stop her as she doesn't want to start anything, just relay what she saw, her skin on edge.
"It's ok," Sam says soothingly to Elthana... But also to himself and everyone else at the same time. "It's ok. Tense time... Everyone on edge... Let's just not tip things the wrong way if we don't have to is all...."
Sam. The voice of reason. Something must be wrong here.
After a little screeching between Muir and the Roc's they seem agreeable. He turns to the others "The female is going to follow me to check the eggs out. I suggested this to her and her mate and they were agreeable. There seems to be a bit more trust between them and myself. Hopefully we can make good use of this and aid them. The male is going to move a little out of the way to allow this. Keep watch for anymore of these creatures. We assume they are worms but in this world....things are different as we all have experienced."
With that Muir moves with the female roc to check the eggs. Muir will move to each egg, while holding the light Same gave him, and with permission from the female touch the eggs to see if there are any holes or any signs of tampering. He would explain the necessity of this to her before touching and asking permission. He will also look for any evidence of where the attacking creatures came from. He will ask the female roc if each egg looks and smells normal as he touches and inspects each one. He figures who knows better than the mother who laid them.

"That is risky....How does this spell work? If we heal him before the worms are out the wounds could be sealed with the worms inside ending his life"
