The girl approaches the group and there is a mix of confusion, fear and apprehension in her face. She looks to Sam, then to Gewyn. "Who...? What...? How do you know these things? My family, my friends? Who are you all? Wait my sisters left the faewyld?, no, no they can't. Where are they now, are they both ok?" Her eyes drift to Sam's shoulder. A cast of a horned skull, deformed by corruption decorating his pauldron, the only thing left of Rynwell, though the girl does not seem to recognise it, it still sends a shiver down her spine for some reason.
Having fought memories of all of the Trostani sisters within Rynwell's mind back in the hokum mountain, the group recognise the features of this girl, though the memory of her was older than she appears now, it is definitely the same person, Mireah, daughter of spring. The one Shionne had assumed is directly related to Gewyn.
Hector also looks confused, and let's the group explain.
Sensing the tension Delores plunges her hand into her robe and pulls out a twisted green wand, holding it at her side in preparation.
Griff takes a seat on a nearby rock not knowing what is going on and not being bothered enough to find out.
"Is it truly you?"Gewyn asks, stepping forward. He pulls out his mirror and holds it forward. "Spyro has been looking for you since he was trapped in here," he brushes his fingers against the gemstone inlaid in the handle, "by your sister Rynwell." He changes into Rynwell as he continues to move forward slowly. Then he shifts into her corrupted, hag-like appearance, and then back to himself.
Once he reaches Mireah, he looks deep into her eyes, looking for some recognition of what or who he is. Hoping, but almost unsure what he's hoping for.
Elthana walks with Gewyn, but a step back not wanting to interrupt what is going on between him and Mireah, but she wants him to understand that she is there for him. Spyro, he mentioned him before - was that the little dragon that appeared for a moment? The elf stays quiet as she waits to see what is going to happen next, this was much more than she had anticipated.
Mireah's brows furrow, her eyes water, and the saddened expression that presses itself onto her face cannot be hidden "spyro... is here?. Rynwell... What happened to her? Did she turn into... That? What's going on? Wait..." tears well up in her eyes and she places a hand gently on gewyn's cheek, "Duskan, is that you?"
Delores shoulders relax and her wand is pocketed once again, she moves behind Mireah and places a soothing hand on her shoulder.
Muir figures this is his cue and steps forward "Hello there...again...I am Muir, a Keeper of the Woods. May I sit?" Muir sits and doesn't wait for a nod "I can explain everything in a little more detail to fill in the blanks for Sam. As for Gewyn's mention of Spyro...he did not share that with the rest of us." Muir sighs and continues "Even though I have shared and shared and shared with the group....But I digress. So in our world, the main hub as Hector called it, all of the portals have reopened. The Fae portal opened in a place called Hokum, perhaps you remember it and the Keeper who stood guard? Well when your sister died and you left, Rynwell in her grief became corrupted with power from hell....I am unsure how that happened, but there is secondary evidence she went there but I cannot confirm it. When the portals opened she came to our world, killed many Hokum citizens and raised an army. She captured others for their blood to keep her army fed and to raise more. My companions and I were tasked to find out what happened and stop whatever it is from spreading. On our way to Hokum, we met Shionne who followed Rynwell to help stop her. Shionne told us that the death of your sister drove Rynwell mad with grief and power. She lent us aid and advice. We made it to Hokum where we fought for our lives and the lives of the citizens still alive. When we found Rynwell, she trapped us in a dream of sorts while she tried to corrupt the portal by draining Vincent and Gewyn of their blood. We fought our way out of the dream and saved our friends but in doing so we had to stop your sister. Rynwell is dead. I am sorry to be the bearer of this bad news, but it was the only way we could stop her. We tried to rationalize with her but failed in that endeavor. We reported this to Shionne who has since returned with the fae back to your world to rebuild." Muir pauses to catch his breath and then continues "The reason we have traveled to this world is to save the city of Marbelstead. The treasury floats above the city through the use of Lumithor's bones. The bones lost their magic so we were tasked to get new ones. This is how we met Hector and befriended him. We met Lumithor and spoke with him about our plight. He allowed us to take 2 bones if we defended the portal to the Shadowlands so he could see what happened to his mother, Vox Trontitor. We defended the gate and defeated the Shadowland forces. This is where Sam was afflicted with a curse. He picked up a pendent as a trophy of sorts and it cursed him. Lumithor returned and saw that we successfully defended the portal so he gave us 2 bones. We returned the other 2 that had lost its magic. We come here, well most of us, with the hope that Sam's curse can be lifted. We can then aid this realm in defeating a necromancer who is raising an undead kobold army, but this will take a lot of convincing by us with the Djinns of the land. So our reasons for being here are for help" Muir looks at Gewyn and then back to Mireah
"Duskan... I... no. I am not he. Do I remind you of this man?" Gewyn asks, not wanting to draw away from the hand on his cheek, though he knows she meant it for someone else
"yes." Mireah gives Gewyn a smile through the tears, "you do very much, Duskan is my son. My first born. You have his eyes and his hair, he grew up and went on his own adventures so fast. I do miss him." With sudden realisation she withdraws her hand, and wipes her tears "I'm sorry, all this reminiscing got to me, you must think I'm insane."
Vin clears his throat a little petting neferox's who has similarly taken a seat and is not listening to the events, "hey erm, sorry to interrupt but, I don't understand, you say you've had kids who have grown up, but you look younger than I do, 15 or 16 at the most... is that some Fae magic stuff?"
Mireah looks over and gives vin a nod. "I came here with Delores many years ago, to make a home here together, a place where we could be together for longer, where time moves faster but we didn't have to. A few years ago we had to accept that Delores may not be around much longer, and I not connected to my land any more was aging right along with her, as much as I wanted to stay with her like I was before, she wants me to live on, so whilst she is still able I became reborn and she has looked after me like mother whilst I was small."
Delores looks over to Hector, gauging his response to his earlier question at the hut being answered, "like I said, things change" she states
Sam, like Elthana, stays close to Gewyn but not too close. He deserves space to ask his questions or do whatever he needs doing, Sam just needs to be close enough in case shenanigans begin...
When Mireah seems to look at his pauldron Sam fights the urge to turn away or become defensive. He hadn't considered he may run into a relative of the hag. Or if he did, he had assumed the relative would be one he wouldn't mind scaring or offending. Still, it is a skull and not a face, it shouldn't be too obvious. Right?
"It's tradition," Sam mutters when Muir mentions him taking the pendant as a trophy but then lets it drop with no more said.
"So you two were together but you were reborn so it kind of changed from together to a mother daughter type thing," Sam says aloud, trying to get the facts straight in his own head. He probably should have kept his mouth shut but he's not always the best at that. "This rebirth thing... Isn't there a way Delores could do it, too? I don't know much about magic but I've seen it do almost everything at this point..."
Gewyn reels from the information. He thinks long and hard. A memory returns to him. "I do not think you insane. I have seen a man like you describe in a vision." Gewyn's form shifts again, though not by much. "This is Duskan, is it not? If I remind you of him, it may be because Shionne tells me that I share your blood. I was born with fae blood, though not in the Faewyld. Presumably, then, to a wandering faerie. We're... unless I'm mistaken, we're family."
"life, rebirth, death... There is a natural way to things, I have lived a long and full life thanks to Mireah, and I will accept my time when it comes. She is not properly mortal, not like the rest of us, it has been my pleasure and honour to have known her for how long I could. But she must move on, past what we had, past what we have now, and looking after her in a vulnerable stage in this new life is the least I could do." Delores offers in response to Sam's question.
Mireah looks deep into Gewyn's eyes, and a realisation hits, "you must be Duskan's child, my grandson, oh Delores I have a grandson!" In the blink of an eye the young girl is wrapped around Gewyn's waist arms tight around his back and face pressed against his chest, in an excitable hug. Gewyn is quickly reminded that this girl, his grandmother, is still soaking wet from the lake water being thrown over her by the Blugufa.
Delores gives a warm smile and leans on her cane. "If this is true we should crack out that elvish wine we've been saving."
Sam hmph!'s. He's not going to argue with these two women but he definitely has a totally different mindset when it comes to voluntarily leaving one you love. His eyes widen shortly after when Gewyn's possible lineage is announced. Sam isn't sure how this complicates things... but somehow Sam is sure this will complicate things.
Gewyn slowly wraps his arms around Mireah's small frame, happy, surprised, confused... How was he to feel when meeting family he'd never known before? (Especially when his grandmother was younger than him) Family that hadn't been missed growing up because he hadn't known it existed?
Gewyn's mind flashes over his childhood in the streets, how lonely and lost he'd felt as an adult even at the height of his fame... No. This had been missed. But now he has a chance to seize something he never thought he could have.
His arms tighten around her shoulders as he leans into the hug and his eyes mist over. "You have a grandson,"he whispers.
Elthana watches all this unfold. Reborn? She smiles, at least she isn't the only one with a strange background. And this girl's personality? She likes her immediately. She finds herself holding back when the two embrace, wanting to join in the hug - this disturbs her and her smile fades away.
After a moment of reflection, she places her hand on Gewyn's shoulder, so he knows that as he is learning about a new family, he still has this family.
The hug lasts longer than one would normally find comfortable but the aura of joy radiating from mireah is apparent, when she finally releases Gewyn and steps back she looks him up and down and then almost gasps in shock as she remembers the things that the group is in fact there for. "We should celebrate, but first let's get this curse removed from your friend and see if we can do something about spyro. You said he was trapped by my sister in this mirror? In this gem? Come, we should get ourselves situated at the house and Ill get I to some dry clothes, I'd definitely like to hear about your life about your travels with this group"
On the short walk back to the house, Muir takes his opportunity to summarise the groups activities as detailed yet succinctly as possible, including the news of Rynwell's corruption and subsequent demise.
Her face grave and overcome with emotion Mireah, quietly weeps for her fallen sister, but comforted by Delores she puts on a brave face and withdraws to a side room to change unit dry clothes before responding to the group. Now dry and finding strength somewhere within herself she stands in the common area in the middle of you all seated within the warm confines of the house, "I'm sure shionne must have explained what we are, how the loss of our sister effected us, we were born as one being, tialha, shionne, rynwell and I, Trostani. When tialha dies we were broken, shionne delved into her work to distract herself and rynwell isolated herself in her land of autumn... I looked elsewhere for consolation, Shionne helped me separate myself from my land of spring and took that burden in herself, none of us asked for this and I don't know how or why rynwell would connect with the gells in her grief, all I can offer is an apology for her actions, for what she did to your realm, and for what she was trying to do. I understand why you out a stop to it and I hold no contempt for you, but it hurts... It hurts that another part of me is gone, I should have been there for her but I was lost in my own way of coping. I hope you bear no grudge toward me for my inaction, for my cowardice... I'm just so sorry.."
Delores, sensing this is maybe not the time for that elven wine just yet decides to put on more tea. Hector sits close to Elthana and offers a comforting hand when hearing of the groups previous plights and accomplishments, where as Griff simply looks quite impressed by the story, though he looks away uncomfortably at mireah's apology and slight breakdown not quite knowing what else to do with himself.
"What the Ha... What Rynwell did reflects on no one but herself. Each of us are responsible for our own selves and nobody should have to carry the burden or another's transgressions..." Sam replies. "I can't speak to not being fully and only myself, can't say I fully understand the idea of it or the swirl of thoughts and emotions and all that go with it... But in the end we are each ourselves and must do our own acts and answer for our own selves." Sam isn't entirely sure if he said something deep or just confused himself so he clears himself and suddenly becomes very interested in the tea on offer.
Elthana smiles at what Sam says or tries to say. She isn't sure herself, but she knows the heart behind it. She feels for the girl, she thinks she knows how she feels in a lot of ways, feeling terrible for the actions of someone in her family.
"Please, don't be sorry Mireah. We're just happy to be here and to meet you and Delores. And the surprise that you are Gewyn's Grandma? That's wonderful." She also gives Hector a smile when he joins her, but she doesn't know what to say when she sees his concern. She finally says, "We did what we had to do. We will continue to do so."
Muir smiles "At first when I saw this piece of the realm, I thought maybe a Keeper had snuck through the portals but the Pixies were a give away as to who was truly here. I suspected Dolores wasn't telling the truth. It is a pleasure to meet you Mireah. Just as we harbored no ill feelings towards Shione, we certainly do not feel this way towards you either. In fact it is good you are here! We as a group are hoping to help bring a sense or normalcy back to this realm and end the death and destruction. I believe you can help cultivate, pun intended," Muir chuckles a bit "Help rebuild this world where people are not starving, there is farmable lands, etc."
Mireah looks to Delores at Sam's insistence, she looks down and informs Sam, "we are the same being, my sister's and I... I'm not sure if this will make sense to anyone but it is as if we are one soul split into four. Their actions are their own, I understand but it weighs on my soul as much as it weighs on theirs."
"Truly, the bad news comes with the good, I lose some family but gain more, I'm not sure how to feel, of course I'm overjoyed to meet Gewyn, and all of you." She smiles a slightly tainted smile at Elthana.
"I lied about nothing," Delores interrupts, Muir "I said mireah was my daughter because I have raised her as such, blood relation has no bearing on what i meant to say, and I said what I meant." She scowls slightly at Muir as she refills the cups of those who are running low on tea.
"We have asked to be left alone for the majority of the time we have spent here, I did after all run away from my responsibilities as the princess of spring, I didn't want to make my presence here known as an outsider, or worse have someone drag me back..." Looking back to Delores and her elderly frame, mireah sighs, "I can help this realm but not yet, I still have a favour to return...
But before we get into all that I'll keep up my end of things hmm? You cane here for help yes? Sam, was it? Come, let's get rid of this curse" she stands in the center of the seating circle and gestures for Sam to stand and join her.
"Yeah, Muir. Not all family is inherited," Sam notes. "Family is also chosen..." Sam definitely understands where Delores is coming from... After he lost his parents he found a new family amongst the other street kids. There was a small group of them, including Jimmy and himself, as tight or tighter than family ever is. Those not in the group were still counted as family, maybe cousins or such. Then later, when he met Molly... a new chosen family...
With his thoughts drifting in the past Sam misses some of what Mireah is saying but he snaps back when he hears his name.
"What? Err, me? Oh yeah, sure..." he says, trying to replay what he never really heard her say. It doesn't work but Sam does what is instructed, standing up and moving closer to Mireah. "The curse, yeah..." he adds, nervously.
Gewyn leans forward intently, curious to watch his grandmother's powers in action
