Duun raises both hands outstretched by his sides and then quickly brings them together with a clap as he bows low and grumbles. "a pleasure."
Once the circle is empty, the Ginro scientist speaks a few words into the sending stone and gives the group an awkward nod, awaiting something to happen. A moment or two later the ritual symbols begin to glow and the matrix over head hums to life, then suddenly Ömertyr's giant crystal backpack and two Roc's appear, along with Ingram's griffon. Though the Rocs are not so quickly recognisable as they are both wearing crystal helms, and the majority of their bodies are clad in rubber like armour which ties to a saddle upon each of their backs, ther are also saddle bags reminiscent of when the group first travelled to Gojiin upon Spier Umar.
Ömertyr gives a concerned and questioning look to the scientist who gestures to welcome him to the circle to collect his belongings, to which he does, growing in size once more and hefting the massive pack on his back.
"I have been... made aware of your rush... It is disappointing... but needs must, I will show you... the way to get off this isle... and to your destination... meeting the death giant" Duun states, before bowing once more and turning to slowly amble toward the exit.
"what are we expecting, y'know when we get to the death giant?" Ingram asks, having joined the group late and still seeming not at 100% health after having drank with sam he night before and had his sleep interrupted.
"I have been informed that Daudi's reception of us will be... unpredictable," Sam replies. "She has been alone for a long time. Her body transformed by her grief and traumas. Predicting how she will respond to us is a fool's errand. Be prepared for anything. But, err, don't look prepared for trouble. That in itself could cause it, ya?"
"sooooo. Be expecting the unexpected and preparing for the worst but don't be looking like it, got it, easily done." Griff chuckles as Ingram merely stands with mouth half gape in confused response.
The Rocs react with glee rushing off the ritual circle and greeting the group with headbutts and preening.
As the rocs rush over Muir greets them with smiles and pets. Muir checks on them stomping his staff to squawk a bit to them.
When he finishes he turns to Dunn "Hello there, I am Muir. If we are done with introductions I do have some questions that as the lorekeeper and historian of the realm, what an important position I must say, you could help me. You see I have been tracking the steps of a portal traveler from the time when they were last opened. An elf named Stryder. He traveled from realm to realm, we have some evidence back in our world, but he came upon a reason for the portals to close...I was wondering if you had anything written about him before we head off. I suspect it has to do with the magic being drawn by Nivara to become a lich but can't be certain. It could be something even more sinister."
"They asked what we can expect from Daudi," Sam says, switching to Giant for Ömertyr. "I told them we couldn't know for sure and to be prepared for anything, without looking ready to fight. Anything to add or correct on that?"
When interrupted by the Rocs Sam returns their greetings as best he knows how (Animal Handling - 18). "They said you have forgotten your names," Sam says playfully while patting the creatures. "So who are you now, then? Any preferences? Igg and Ook? Ren and Stimpy? Peebee and Jay?" Sam's "conversation" with the Rocs doesn't last too long, however, as Órga soon plods over and bumps into Sam's hip demanding their own pets and attention, reminding Sam that they're his favorite...
As they start to move, Elthana walks up to Duun, needing to know the answer to her question, "Have you ever seen me before? Or anything close? I just want to be sure. Or anything else happen here that's unusual lately?" She seems a bit fidgety, not at all like herself. "And what does this isle specialize in?" She figures he'd answer history, but she hopes he expands upon that.
Vin stands to the side, trying to listen as he continues to take deep breaths to stave off vomiting. He does manage to wave at Duun though, so as not to seem completely rude.
When he is finally confident that the contents of his stomach will remain in his stomach, he looks over the Rocs, now looking more like trained war mounts than the wild birds they first met. They will certainly be valuable assets.
He wonders if the same can be said of Ömertyr's sister. He still has no idea what to expect of the death giant, but he does wonder whether turning up in what could be perceived as a show of strength is wise.
"Are we sure it is best to approach Ömertyr's sister together? So many new people, on rocs decked out for war, with likely only two who can speak to her anyway", he asks. "It seems to me Ömertyr and Sam are the critical people, the rest of us are just complicating matters".
"Ömertyr and me?" Sam asks in response and then laughs. "Critical??" Sam laughs some more. Once finished he turns to Ömertyr and speaks to him in Giant.
In Giant:
"The boy wants to get rid of us. He thinks we two alone should go see your sister. He thinks maybe it'll go bad and we won't return," Sam says, amusement still clear in his voice.
"Perhaps you should just grow a pair and speak your heart?" Sam says, returning to speaking Common, his tone more serious, and looking to Vin. "If you want me off the team then be a man and say it. Don't make up these half truths to try to send us off into what may be danger alone. Be a man. Say to me what you say when you think I do not hear. You want to be big brave adventuring grown up boy? The be brave enough to speak the truth of what you want..."
Muir was about to explain the importance of the trip but was too slow….Muir decides to try to quell the situation “No, no…he means that you two are the only ones that speak Giant and that maybe it would be a good idea for you to make contact first before we proceed. What Vin means, I believe, is for you to be our ambassador of sorts….you are an integral part of our team, he’s not trying to off you and besides I must talk to her for the sake of our mission when it is safe to do so.”
"No, Sam has a point", Vin concedes. "Part of it is that he seems to have a bond with the giant folk which makes him the best choice to go, you are right Muir, but part of it is that I don't trust him and his presence makes me nervous", he says with a shrug. "I would rather not be anywhere near you, Sam. That is the truth of the matter", he says meeting Sam's gaze.
"It's as if he can ignore everything he has done, and we will just forget and bygones will be bygones. Well I haven't forgotten. So whoever goes with Sam and Ömertyr to see the death giant, I simply don't want to be a part of it", he says to the whole group.
Sam smirks. "I care not about bygones. I own what I did. But what did you do, young Vincent? Did you take action to save your teammate or did you stand idly by as they committed suicide by rat? You weren't there but surely your loyal mutt would have obeyed if you told them to chase away the rat? Or eat it? Or do anything to save your teammate? Hells, kid, I did more than you did for Muir. I at least saved his life at the end... While you still sat in your own soiled pants and whined, or whatever load of nothing you did about this great injustice you are so indignant about,' Sam says gruffly.
"But so be it... You want me gone and I am gone. I'll happily return to Northmorrah as soon as it can be arranged. It's there that I am sworn to protect and I still wish to do my duty and fulfill my oath..."
"The fact of the matter is I would rather not be around someone who would force his pet rat to eat a member of our party", Vin says matter of factly. "You have had ample opportunity to show some remorse and offer an apology, but instead you own what you did, and deflect fault to those around you who tried to talk some sense into you at the time to no avail".
"If the basics of common decency and empathy are beyond you, and you would prefer to go back to Northmorrah, then no-one can stop you. You do you, Sam. You always have and it seems you always will".
"Forced the rat?" Sam replies in a scoff. "Ahh, the privilege of youth and oblivious indignation..." Sam seems poised to continue on but after a moment he just shakes his head and turns away from the kid. Instead he turns away and focuses on Ömertyr instead.
Spoken in Giant
"It seems my time with the group is over. The kid and I can't work together and I'll not make the group choose between us. They'd probably choose him anyway. I'm going to try to make my way home from here, that's where my real battle is anyway. I hope you'll still work with the rest of them... You may need to write things down for Muir to understand but he's not entirely daft, he'll get it eventually."
"Here, take this. You had a role in it's crafting anyway. And if you can use it to help Elthana at all I would consider it a kindness..."
Anyone watching sees Sam take a ring off of his finger and hand it over to Ömertyr before Sam turns away and steps over to Elthana.
"Time for me to leave you all," Sam says in a voice a bit quieter than his usual. "Seems things took a turn they just won't recover from and so it's for the best. For me to stay would just be too much when the group is already trying to deal with too much... I had thought... had hoped..." but Sam loses his words and ends up shrugging instead.
"No matter. I will work my way back to Akiin and the portal there, I hope. Get back home and try to do some good there. Make sure there's a home for you all to return to and all... Maybe pay Hog and the Kobolds. I think we're owing them a bit of backpay perhaps," he jokes.
"You remember you have as much right to your soul or whatever as Nivara does. More. You're the one actually using it. Seems to me all they did was bottle theirs up like some paranoid hoarder afraid to actually let it be of use.... Yeah, that doesn't make real sense but you know what I mean... Anyway, win this whole mess, eh? Do good. Be good. Find your own way home..." As Sam is saying this he unties the rust colored bag from his waist and then presses it into Elthana's hands. "And take Órga and this. I can't be your protector... And I sure as hell don't trust these others to be... But maybe the animals can help, eh?" With that said Sam bends a bit and plants a small kiss on Elthana's forehead, if she allows, before he steps back and walks a bit off to the side away from the others so as to allow them some room to carry on their journey before Sam starts trying to find his own way towards home...
"Lots of words there, some of them big ones too, but you would rather run back to Northmorrah than utter the words that would form an apology", Vin says to Sam.
"I confess I am not sure I have met anyone as skilled at manipulating people as you, Sam. If I wasn't there, I would be doubting the truth of what you did as well, as you seem so reasonable now. But then, as you keep pointing out, I am just a boy and not experienced or man enough to be taken seriously. Oh, apart from the fact that you think I have made this grand decision for the group that you should leave, when what I said was that I didn't want to go to see the death giant as I wasn't really needed. It's as if you twisted my words in order to gain sympathy", he adds shaking his head and walking away to an opposite side to where Sam moved.
Ingram steps forward as Vin suggests sam and Ömertyr going it alone, "as a goliath I also speak giant if that's your main concern, but if the reception is possibly a hostile one then it would be easier to get an audience with us all, show that we are serious, and if whats her name is as much a hermit as we've been told then she might not know of what is going on, Sam can be aggressive and intimidating sure, but what if she needs persuading? Gewyn and yourself are much better at that... what if she needs someone to speak cold facts at her? Muir's assessments and notes might come in handy... what if she can offer help in the way of insight that only Elthana has? we just don't know what we're gonna find, so our chances of success only increase with each member of the group being there."
As the conversation devolves into accussationa and mistrust, Ömertyr gives sam a concerned look. taking the ring but not putting it on. he lets sam's words hang in the air, hesitating to answer, but as Sam's mind seems made up the cloud giant puts a large hand on sam's shoulder, and responds, the scraping harsh language of the giants taking on a more reflective and concerned tone.
In Giant,
"Sam if your journey takes you away from this group then so be it, but don't let it keep you away from the giants, You said Vox had reached out to you, that you had some kind of connection. I must confess I had had an idea of what you might be before that but this connection may just solidify my theory, I conferred with Ginro to clarify that theory... If that makes you feel like I have betrayed your trust then I am sorry, but I had to be sure... as you know I'm the last of my race, I'm not sure how the other elemental giant races are doing out there across the realms, But I'll tell you this, there is a difference between the elemental giants and the primordial ones, you seem to have descended from the latter which is very rare, of course you might not care about any of this, but I emplore you to find out, To meet with Vox if she has spoken to you, to go back to your faamily and find out where that side of your ancestry comes from, because if I am right... then there is hope."
As Ömertyr finishes speaking he lets go of sam's shoulder and closes his hand around the ring, rooting through his pack he pulls out a familiar looking belt, the one Ginro had offered Sam and offers it to the half orc.
"I can promise you that this is not trapped or cursed if that was your concern from Ginro, he gave this to me at my request thinking it was for me, but it is a relic of the giants and as such It belongs to us, use it, or sell it, do what you like, but I'd like you to at least have it."
Lastly Griff, anxious about the situation hesitantly clears his throat and clicks his beak, "I am here as an ambassador for Akiin and to be helping my realm, if this group is splitting then my duties ae being doubled, i cannot be escorting Sam back to Akiin's isle as is my duty and also be assisting in the fighting against Nivara... I also am thinking you are being too hasty, this is not being easy to watch, and i am understanding the concern having seen the result of what sam was being doing, but seeing a threat from within your own ranks is being a scary thing, perhaps even making decisions made lacking honour or afterthought, I am struggling with finding the words... the point I am trying to make is that however monsterous the action, the intention was being for everyones sake, incuding muir. but perhaps that is not the issue and I am missing the point. but if you are choosing to be going seperate directions then I am having a decision to make"
As the discussion continues, some of the teleportation scientists awkwardly begin leaving the room, and Duun merely stands watching the proceedings with concern etched in his old wisened brow.
Sam smiles as Vin has his say and then offers him the most obviously insincere wave goodbye when they walk away.
In Giant:
"My meeting with Vox could easily be no more than the waning vapors of alcohol passing through my head as I slept off my drunk. I'm not sure where my travels will take me but I'm sure there will be drink involved, time to time. We'll see if more clues come to me or not, I guess."
Sam reluctantly accepts the belt from Ömertyr but there is obvious hesitation. Still in the end he smiles, nods a thank you, and puts it in his pack.
"Griff, your duties are helping this realm. That is done with the others, not with me. My aim is to leave this realm and help my own," Sam says, momentarily putting a hand on Griff's shoulder. "All I ask of you is to point me in the right direction..."
Gewyn continues to lie on the ground, though his nausea has passed. He lies in his back with eyes closed and hands clasped over his chest, simply taking in the conversation.
Vin’s anger, though appropriate, is something new since his death. He feels for Elthana and the difficulty this tension places on her in particular. He also feels for Muir, trying so hard to maintain focus on the mission and put the past on hold for now, despite what had been done to him.
And Sam? Well, Sam would probably get mad at the idea of Gewyn feeling pity for him. Gewyn let that particular matter blow away in the wind.
Finally, he sits up and speaks. I am inclined to trust the assessment of those who know the Death Giant. I can’t make anyone else’s choices for them, but I believe I should be there.”

Gewyn lowers himself to his hands and knees before slowly rolling off the circle until he is lying face down. "Don't look at me," he groans
Órga plods over to Gewyn and gives him a great big lick on the side of his face. And then another. It's how he shows he cares.
Duun raises both hands outstretched by his sides and then quickly brings them together with a clap as he bows low and grumbles. "a pleasure."
