On hearing Ömertyr speak, Vin puts his book down and tries to spy Ingram from the pack through a window or the doorway. If he can, and if he is within range, he will message him. "What did Ö say?".
After a short back and forth with Ömertyr, vin gets a message response back from Ingram. Ingram then swoops off Ömertyr's shoulder where he had perched to converse, and instead flies next to the roc with El and Muir atop it. He yells out over the wind, "BE READY, WE ARE APPROACHING, ÖMERTYR HAS SPOTTED SOMETHING!"
Though from their position in the slipstream behind Ömertyr's massive form, the par do not see what the cloud giant sees, until they move to get a better vantage.
In the distance a lonely black isle seems to be moving from the right of your heading and moving leftward. Some kind of cloud seems to trail behind it as it falls in it's quick sideways trajectory.
Vin watches Sam disappear wearing a sullen expression before he shrugs at Gewyn, "What? I didn't tell him to leave the group, I wanted to stay behind. It's not like you tried to persuade him to stay".
"No blame from me. Just checking that you're alright. We've all been through a lot."
Hearing the news about their approaching destination, Gewyn holds up a finger to Spyro and then leans forward, shading his eyes and peering at the black isle.
As the group approaches there are mumbles of confusion from Ömertyr, the dark isle comes closer and into view. Or it would, if the cloud that surrounds and trails behind it was not completely obfuscating the isle itself. Some dark aura, like a thick cloud of oil smearing across thin air behind the falling central mass. Something is wrong and Ömertyr slows a little.
Ingram points to it calling Elthana and Muir's attention closer to it, before his griffon lands atop Ö's shoulder and the Goliath captain pokes his head through the door of the crystal pack, wind rushing in as he shouts over to Vin and Gewyn "how are you wanting us to progress? Big Ö doesn't know what this is, he's keeping pace with the isle for now. But I don't see any holes in that black mass of whatever that is."
Vin calls on Bry'ze in order to be able to move to a position where he can get a better view.
"If Ö doesn't know what that is, we have got little hope, but perhaps if we get closer it will become clear? Well, we will see more, not it will become transparent", he suggests to Ingram.
Neferox also follows him outside, so that they are on a shoulder of Ömetyr and able to get a good view but protected from the wind.
Seeing that Ingram is trying to get them closer, Elthana attempts to drive the Roc in that direction, but it doesn't seem to acknowledge anything that she is doing.
"Looks like some kind of protective shell. I think we might have to head through it if we want to proceed", Vin says to Ingram, a little unsure whether going through is a good idea.
"Unless someone has a way to open a way through, or teleport in. But it's not something I can help with".
Ingram calls to Ömertyr in giant, the cloud giant responds with something that sounds negative.
Ömertyr approaches the edge of the shadowy barrier and his eyes burn with arcane for a moment and then suddenly he sticks a hand in for a moment. When It comes back out it is coated in small crystals of frost and something that looks like a burn which wraps it's way up his arm like a snake. He winces and calls to Ingram to translate his findings. "Ö here says something feels alive in the shadow, like hafgufa tentacles but more burning than stinging, and that the shadow itself is cold, very cold. But he has nothing to dispel it, says it's a conjured spell, something other worldly or extra dimensional brought here, its more than 30ft deep, but he can't tell how much more. He could take 20 minutes and control the weather to heat up this isle to maybe stop the frost from getting to us, but he says if it truly is extra dimensional then there's a high chance that won't work, is it worth a try?"
"that wouldn't make sense" Ingram calls over furrowing his brow over his wind protective goggles, "Ö said Daudi is a champion of death, the consequence of some deal... If Nivara is involved with nectyran then those two powers don't mix, unless Nivara has been here and Daudi is no more..." He frowns at this possibility, quietly hoping for the truth to be a different circumstance.
"I am not sure who created this, but I have read about an effect like this. It is called Hunger of Hadar, and it will hurt as Ö said unless we can get through quickly. If anyone has any protection against cold or acid, that will help as well", Vin feeds back.
Muir speaks to his bird friend and directs them to fly as close to the front of the pack as she can. Muir raises his staff while chanting in druidic. He does an intricate set of motions with his staff all while chanting and focus his druidic magic on the group. His staff begins to glow brightly but not a natural color of sunlight that maybe one would expect from a light spell but instead a blinding emerald light burst from its tip, casting back the encroaching magical darkness. His friends would recognize, possibly, that he has cast dispel magic, but have never seen it used like this before. The shadows hissed and recoiled, unable to penetrate the barrier. With calm assurance, Muir smiled and turned to his friends and said, “Stay within the light,” then led them forward into the heart of the darkness, now powerless before the force of nature’s will.
As Muir casts his spell the light instantly forms a bubble of anti magic which pierces the shadow like a wound. The group are able to enter quickly and make their way 60ft inside but the wound slowly and surely begins closing in and they cannot yet see the other side. Both Ömertyr and the rocks are moving very carefully as to not touch the edges of this hole in the shadow with their massive bodies
(Muir if you want to attempt to cast again and puncture more of this odd shield roll that spell asking modifier once more and mark off another spell slot.)
As Muir casts once more the wound in the shadow barrier begins to close up behind the group. Tentacles lash out angrily from the surge and swell of shadow around, but he is successful in his spell and a oath forward opens up in front, a way out of the darkness.
Gewyn's music fills the roc's and the giant with energy they dash forward and safely out of the barrier, Ingram and his griffon hanging on for dear life to Ömertyr's shoulder and Ömertyr himself makes an instinctual decision to grab vin too, broom and all as the group narrowly avoid the closing shadow of hunger that soon overwhelms the dispelling and returns to its complete cover behind them.
This area is quiet, the winds outside the shadow are not felt here. With the Isle now in full view, the group can see that this isle is small, maybe half the size of the floating treasury back home and nowhere near the gargantuan size of the djiini's isles. The similarities with the treasury do not stop there as the stone seems to be comprised of the same dark stone that the bricks of Sergor Hamilton's Castle like Mansion are made of.
A large clearing seems to be the direction that Ömertyr is heading, having now let go of vin, leaving the boy to his own path down. Ingram too dislodges his griffon from the giants back and descends but not before hesitating and pulling up, "company!" He shouts and points out to several creatures patrolling around the flat parts of the isle below some large bipedal masses, some smaller creatures on all fours.
The air explodes from Vin's lungs as Ömetyr grabs him and drags him through the void, and as he is let go he pants for breath even as he grabs hold of Bry'ze.
"Nice work, Muir", he manages to say when he catches his breath, before he focusses on the company pointed out by Ingram.
"I assume we are not going to be welcomed with open arms here", he says as he readies himself for conflict, Neferox moving to flank him.
