Muir smiles at the feeling and bringing him back to his childhood before composing himself. He laughs at Maathai's joke and answers
"You know me so well. The long of it....The Druids had me go to Hokum to investigate a disturbance. I met other adventurers there who were sent by the other factions of the realm. The portals opened back up! We saved Hokum from an twisted Fae sister and are now in Thaeir trying to stop a lich from taking over this realm. I've been busy to say the least. Are you ok in the afterlife?"
Gewyn, having a one-sided conversation with screams of discontent, pulls out his pipes and starts trying to drown out the noise with loud playing. 'Drowning out' turns to harmonizing, and then harmonizing turns into a new idea for a song and perhaps for a trick. Though still unbearable, he tries to embed the sound of the screams in his memory for later use.
The squirrel squints at Vin trying to figure out just what the boy's intentions with this information is...
"Orcus is indeed the ruler of hell, the others disappeared some time ago... I can deliver this message to Kino if I find him but what is your relation to him?" the squirrel looks between Vin and Nef on the ground as the boy mentions a 'We'.
Muir seems focussed solely on the hallucination in front of him as he hears her respond.
"I am safe and enjoying the memories of my life, of the people who are important to me... the afterlife, or at least this portion of it, feels very peaceful, but that is because it is what I made of my life, I am happy that you have found your people Muir. It sounds like you are doing a many great things, I knew you would, even if i did not live to see your great acheivements." Maathai gives Muir an empathetic smile, knowing the greif he must be feeling and not wanting to exacerbate that.
Try as he might Gewyn still hears the cacophany of memories all wanting to be heard, the melody soothes him as much as it can, but ever the optimist he commits this discordand choir to memory.
”The message will be enough for Kino to understand. It is better, and perhaps safer, that you know no more, just know we are friendly to Kino and wish him no harm. As a messenger, I expect you must often send messages that you do not fully understand”.
Hearing the commotion below, he looks down at Gewyn and Muir, wondering what it is all about but still deep in conversation for the moment.
Muir smiles “Thank you. I’ve tried to live up to your teachings and the Druids of course. I just wish i had been there for you as you were for me when you took me in.” Muir pauses and sighs “It’s crazy here to put it mildly. The portals opening up, danger through or from each portal so far….we are planning on fighting a lich…Can you believe the absurdity of this?”
The door to the basement can be heard swinging open and Morris comes up behind the bar, in a moment of realisation and confusion he shouts about at the group, "what has gone on here!?"
With a click of his fingers the aspect of death seems to summon several hundreds of volumes of books onto the bar and around the room, and in an instant Muir's connection with the memory he was speaking to, as well as the cacophony Gewyn was hearing stops. "I was gone for one minute... And you're concocting dangerous drinks... and dabbling in the library!?" He looks positively livid towards Gewyn, Muir, and Elthana, the empty glasses from Gewyn's concoction still sitting on the bar. Another instant and the books disappear.
Ratosk nods to Vin but his eyes remain curious, one might even say suspicious, as he responds.
"my services are normally only rendered to those of immortal or divine persuasions... Not to be plied by the likes of you, but I will make an exception, since I do not know if the recipient lives you have no promises from me, but I will try on the basis that you stop this Ascension, I have no wish to be a courier for this Nivara character that Memento Mori is so concerned about."
Muir answering truthfully "Gewyn made us a drink and now I am speaking to my adopted mother Maathi who I did not know died....I am quite sad about it but it was comforting hearing her voice.....but I am sad again since she is gone...."
Elthana focuses on one voice as the cacophony hits her. A small smile grows as she hears the cries. "Can you tell me... are you able to let me know what your name was?"
The elf is too focused on the voice to pay any attention to Morris, though his disappointment rings through.
”Agreed, best endeavours for us both. You have my thanks, and my hope that you do indeed find the recipient alive and well”.
It is then that he hears Morris shout, the anger plain in his voice. He descends from the rafters on Bry’ze and surveys the scene, having been aware of the noise they were making.
”I am sure they are sorry, right Gewyn? Elthana? Muir?”, he asks of the three of them that partook in the drinks.
Muir looks at Vin confused “Sorry? I suppose I am sorry for a lot of things but not for drinking the drink Gewyn made. He made a drink and asked if we’d like one so in my attempts to be more sociak and less questions questions questions I drank”
Gewyn uncradles his head and leans it back against the wall. "I want to say I am sorry. But I like Muir am not, though not for some nice reason like trying to fit in with friends, which is sweet, but rather because I have discovered recently I like how it feels to make my own decisions and make my own rules. I will say of course that I do not love how open I am being about it, and am growing increasingly worried I might say something that is better left unsaid."
He cringes and pulls his pipes up, playing a little tune to occupy his mouth with something other than words.
Vin is a little taken aback by the lack of diplomacy, certainly from Gewyn. Even after Morris had lied to him, he wouldn't want to disrespect him with such brutal...honesty?
"Ok, I wasn't expecting those responses, I won't lie. But then I have no real idea what Morris means by dangerous drinks and dabbling in the library", he says a little confused.
"Perhaps it is best we leave then", he says and turns to Morris. "You did me a good turn here, I won't forget it, despite how things turned out between us", he says quite formally to Morris.
He isn't sure whether his words would distract Morris from his anger at the others at all, but he needed to have his say before he left.
He motions towards Neferox to join him and heads towards the door, before he has a thought and speaks once again to Ratosk.
"How will I know if the message has been delivered? Will you find me?"
"Library?" Muir asks confused "I didn't get to see the library. I like books. Gewyn you went to the library? What did you read? Is that something better left unsaid? Say what should be left unsaid" Muir chuckles realizing that Gewyn too is under the same condition as he is
Morris is wholly taken aback by the honesty displayed, his anger still flush but somewhat diminished, "No need for apologies but a little Understanding here, This place is the library! the drinks I give you, Hells! Even the look of the bar... It's all just memories manifest, When you dip behind the bar and look for refreshment you manifest a memory of something you are looking for from the past, but that is the collective past of everything! Gewyn, with the slightest miscalculation in thought, with the tiniest of intrusive impulses, you could have accidentally delivered one of the strongest poisons there has ever been to your friends... acting on impulse is one thing, but to engage in something like this without knowing the consequences is not admirable or brave, it is foolish and dangerous!... If you had asked I hope you know I would have given anything you want within my means... please, do not delve these memories again, you are all lucky that this concoction has only loosened your tongues."
Ratosk gives Vin a nod and something like a salute before curling back up in his nest, Morris looks to Vin and takes a deep breath, the anger washing away from him, "Look after your friends Vin, I'm not sure how long this will last for them. I did what was asked of me Vin, I would consider us friends, I hope you remember that."
As and when the group leaves the bar, they would find Ingram sitting out by the crypt door with his griffon, the two look out on a flurry of activity as both Ömertyr and Daudi seem to be laughing and wrestling the two Rocs as the dark stone Golems once again lay in tatters around the surface of this minor falling isle.
Vin nods to Morris, intrigued about this loosening of tongues effect, especially given what Muir has asked of Gewyn. When the old man mentions being his friend, he takes a deep breath and slowly exhales. "I will remember, and I promise to do my best not to destroy everything", he says giving Morris a weak and tired smile.
With that said, he waits for Gewyn's replies to Muir and Morris before exiting the tavern and looking across to Ingram.
"What's going on here then?", he asks Ingram, motioning to Ömertyr and Daudi. "They seem to be getting on better at least".
Elthana hiccups and looks between Muir and Gewyn, wondering what is going to be talked about. She stays where she is, hearing Morris, but not responding to the old man. He can split, why did he leave this place? She thinks he did it on purpose to see what would happen and now he's disappointed. Bah, too bad for him.
