As everyone finds their areas to settle in, Elthana takes out the strange bag and looks it over. Putting her hand in, she pulls out a half eaten chunk of cheese with bite marks in it. She tosses it and that makes her wonder if there is a rat in the bag. She opens it up a bit further and peers inside. Complete darkness.
She decides to reach in again and this time pulling out something a bit more interesting...a charm of obsidian antlers which is attached to a broken length of jewelry chain. That does it. She stands up and carrying the bag in her hand, she will go to each of her group and ask if they are able to identify what this bag is. She does this before the long rest.
Sam, comfortable leaning against the soft and warm lion, squints his eyes at Elthana and shrugs. “Looks like a bag, to me,” he says helpfully. “Have you tried just turning it upside down and dumping everything out? Or just turning it inside out?”
One of the clerics of Hermes approaches Elthana as she begins asking about the bag, he is a dwarf with a rugged and frankly appallingly dirty blonde beard, "I knows identify, if ye like I could cast it, bu' it'll takes a lil time" he grumbles "gotta conserve me strength det healin' an tha' y'know."
Elthana lifts her eyebrow at the cleric, unsure what to think of the dwarf. But figures this is as good an offer as any and she holds the bag out to him. "Take your time, I appreciate the help, thank you." and she heads off to find a spot to try and block the chill of the wind as she rests.
Muir watches Elthana go around asking for help and stops at the Cleric of Hermes. He joins in “May I see what I pull out? I have a suspicion of what it may be but let’s be sure yes? While you’re here sir cleric any word from your organization?”
"ah, 'fraid we been cut off for some time, few if us tried sendin' messages thru' means if our roosters, bu' no word back, nor return of any rooster" the dwarf replies as Muir pulls a small glass vial out of the mystery bag, as he looks closely Muir can see an amount of soot-like dust contained within the vial, but does not know what it is.
The dwarf sits and begins chanting, ritually casting identify over the bag, once done he stands back up looking a little perplexed, "this 'ere is a Bag of Pickpocketing... when ye reach in, it places yer hand into the pocket of a random person on this plane and ye takes out the contents, ne'er seen owt like it before."
Myir looks at the vial and turns to the cleric “Ah a shame. I was hoping they’d be here soon. Perhaps while you’re at it could you tell me what’s in this vial?”
After a shorter amount of time the dwarf stops his ritual over the glass vial and opens the lid, he gives it a little sniff, then looks to Muir, "it ain't magic an' it smells like ash... I dunno what te tells ya?, Anyone got it else for me te waste me time on? It's a good distraction if nothin' else."
Sleep inevitably takes you all although proper rest is gard to come by, a forest at night is cold and louder than one would expect, wind whistles through the trees and the trees themselves groan and creak giving each of you visions of animated wood attacking in the night, but no attack comes.
What breaks the eerie noises of the forest is a panicked barking, Elthana, Muir, and Gewyn wake abruptly to hear Neferox yelping and barking like she is being attacked, however when checked on it appears she is completely asleep, Vin lies with his head against her fur and he also looks pained, sweating and fearful in his dreams.
Patrolling guards on the night shift turn to look in the direction of the disturbance, but most seem to pay no mind, one goes to wake a cleric, points over to Vin and Neferox, the cleric in reaction comes walking over groggily, they do not seem to be reacting with any urgency or speed.
Muir wakes from dreaming about peaceful rests under the moon in the fields back home to see Vin sweating and not looking very peaceful in his dreams. He decides it best to wake him by casting shape water and dropping a balloon of water onto Vin's face.
Vin wakes up with a scream. "AAAAAAAA!" Through the panic, cold sweat and panting they don't even seem to realize they were splashed with water. Instead looked ready to fight or blast something with magic but as they look around at their allies they seem to regain their senses. There is a look of wild panic and fear. A noise from Nef in distress catches Vin's attention. They look over to them then Vin quickly holds them and says "Nef! NEF! Wake up! It's a nightmare! It's not real!" Vin tries to wake the hound seemingly not concerned about getting hurt by her if she wakes up in a rage.
Neferox does not wake up, her panicked yelps and cries fir help persist, the cleric finally makes their way to her with a cold damp cloth and begins applying it to her forehead, "it's the nightmares, they've been affecting one of us per night, we must try to keep her calm, it's the only thing we can do, it will abate, we just have to wait it out." They say meekly, as they try to keep the cloth in place whilst Neferox writhes underneath them.
Neferox continues her writhing, but is now soaking wet, as is the cleric who slowly looks to Muir with disbelief which turns into an exhausted resignation, "like I said, we have to wait it out, unless you can work out what it is that is attacking us like this"
Elthana looks on in confusion as to what has the hound trapped in such a nightmare. She waits to hear what Vin has to say when Muir asks about it.
Once he explains, she heads over to where Sam is and gently kicks him in the boot. If that doesn't do it, she'll continue to jostle him until he wakes. "Sam, Vin and Nef were having a shared nightmare..." and she lets him know what Vin said.. "Nef is still in it and according to the clerics must ride it out... so strange."
Vin has never heard Neferox cry for help. They don't even know what could make her do so. They settle for petting Nef wet or not it doesnt matter to vin and waiting for her to wake up. A look of worry and fear in their eyes. Being told they need to wait it out seems really hard for Vin. They just continue to pet her. He looks to the others and asks "Why do this? It's just... cruel... what I saw..." Vin visibly shivers in a way that had nothing to do with being cold. "You said it only affects one at a time? Was nef the target this time then? It... affected us both."
When miur asks his question Vin says "I was being held down as they clawed at my face... it... I was seeing something else from Nef perspective or maybe that was her perspective it was really intense." He looks back worried even more for their dog
"I told you! It was like being pinned down and held. Things clawing at my... her face. The place was... it was awful. Smelled bad, too hot... searing even as they force me... her down. Then claw... not animal... tearing at my face or well... her face.... Muir can you help her? Is all we can do is wait?" Vin seems near tears. They just continue to gently hold and pet neferox.
Sam is woken by Elthana, Neferox continues her helpless yelping and struggling, the cleric has to back away slightly as the dog begins kicking out in desperation, but she doesn't seem to be getting worse.
"Pinned down by some clawed creature, that's what some of the others reported too! A cackling woman they say." The cleric manages to eek out whilst continuing to apply their trade.

Seeing it world on Vin and the shared nightmare Muir gives shape water a try on Nef
Neferox continues her writhing, but is now soaking wet, as is the cleric who slowly looks to Muir with disbelief which turns into an exhausted resignation, "like I said, we have to wait it out, unless you can work out what it is that is attacking us like this"
Muir turns to Vin "Youngling, what did you see in your shared nightmare?"
