Vin waves and Nef kind of prowls around the skinny man as if sizing him up for a meal. A smirk on her face as she does so. Vin simply replies with "Oh! Hello. Yes. I am looking to purchase some supplies for a trip. Umm... for 7 people, 2 horses and 1 dog." Nef sniffs the man as Vin mentions they need food for a dog. The hound almost grinning as they look at the man. A bit of drool dripping from between their maw. She doesn't growl but an attempt to intimidate is definitely being made by Nef. Vin seems to pick up on it and says "Nef, over here girl." Nef licks the side of the man as they pass. Vin assumes this is Dennis as she does so. Nef just saunters over to Vin and receives some pets as the boy seems relieved to get Nef away from the store owner. The red eyes of Nef however settle on the shop keep with an ominous glow.
"Ah yes, just food or other supplies? And um how long?" The wizard inquires as he now notices his wet hands and arms, and then begins wiping them off on his robes. He seems sheepish of Nef and averts his gaze.
Elthana glances back at Gara at he tells her where they went, but then continues on to the Inn. Understanding the situation, though.. where was Ebb? Has he even gotten up yet? "Excuse me, where might I find the wizard shop?"she asks the minotaur when she makes eye contact with her.
"Also, one other quick question. Have you heard any news from Hokum?"
“Food, mostly… Say two weeks?” Sam suggests, not really knowing how much they had left or really how far til their next stop, but better too little and all that. “We have room for that, ya think, Vin?”
Sam moves over next to Vin and leans in as if they’re discussing the issues. Instead Sam says “Neferox always that way or they telling you something? If they’re signaling you, great… if that’s just normal, that needs to be worked on.” Sam says it in a hushed voice just between the two of them and in an advisory tone, no hostility or anger present.
“Yeah, what’s it running say for one week or two? Might cram a bit if there’s a savings…” Sam says aloud, turning back to the proprietor. “We’re heading towards Hokum, not sure how long we’ll be gone…”
Sam is kind of wandering from item to item, looking over what all is displayed. “You have anything else here you may think helpful?”
Vin nods and agrees "Yeah, two weeks should be more then enough. I think there is enough space in the carriage. I suppose we could put some on top if need be too." As Sam kind of guides Vin away and whispers to him Vin makes sure he isn't being over heard and whispers back "Oh, that's Nef making sure I'm not being taken advantage of. She says keeping merchants scared means they think twice about scamming. She's just looking out for me." Vin seems to believe it's just part of the dog trying to protect them. Nef continues to glare and try and keep the shopkeep on edge while the pair whisper about her behavior. Seemingly fixated on continuing to stare ominously at Dennis the wizard.
Vin does follow up with Sam as the big man goes back to talking normally. "We are definately open to suggestions for things to help or information. Most people don't seem to have heard anything from Hokum lately. Have you?"
Trina gives elthana directions and the sound advice to not go to Hokum, as far as information she shakes her head no, and continues cleaning a mug.
"If you're going to Hokum I'd rather not sell items to you at all, they'll not come back! And neither will you!" Squeaks Dennis as his eyes widen at Sam's destination, "ahem as for the supplies.. um.. 7 people, 2 horses and a dog, two weeks, umm I can cover the people and a dog if you're careful, I wouldn't worry about the room for it. I'd say 21 gold, I'll throw in some extra meat for the pup eh?" He cowers slightly as he looks toward Nef.
Sam rummages around his coin purse and carefully counts out the 21 gold. "Do items you sell normally come back?" Sam asks, seemingly mostly focusing on the coin. "Why's things you sell return to you?"
Sam slowly makes three stacks of seven coins, making a slow show of it in order to give Dennis a chance to answer.
"I merely mean coming back at all... no, the items I sell are under the ownership of those who purchase them. but I like to know they are well looked after, I suppose it wouldn't make a difference if I was merely a businessman, but enchantments and scroll writing are hard you know!" Dennis mostly pays no mind to the gold counting and seems a little childlike in his protectiveness of his craft. At this point the bell chimes once more as the door opens and Elthana steps in.
"Good morning miss! I'm just dealing with these fine gentlemen's order and then I'll be with you!" The blue robes man peers at Elthana with a wary smile, as he is on his tiptoes looking over Sam's large form to see her.
Gewyn, to diffuse the tension, strolls through the selection until he comes to a feather on display. "So this is a feather. But also, and correct me if I'm wrong, a whip? They'd love this in the Perfume district back in Marblestead" He turns to wink at Vin. "Am I right, V- Actually, I don't know if you're old enough to get that one. Am I right, Sam?" He turns toward the big man and completes his wink this time.
He then leans toward Vin and whispers, "Mentioning Hokum turns heads round here. That's not always necessarily a bad thing for us, mind. But hey, knowledge is power."
“Can’t say I know what the monied poofs of the upper districts get up to in the Perfume District,” Sam grumbles He pokes around a bit but is continually frowning each time he looks at the prices. “Mostly scrolls,” he says mostly to himself and shrugs.
“But yes, please, if you know anything of Hokum it would be very appreciated. Being a wise and learned man I’d think you’d know more of the truth than the rumors the general folk are spreading?” Sam suggests.
Vin eyes the list of items and checks his pocket for money. Sighing he moves on away from the list and just focuses on looking around for things that might catch his attention. Perhaps he can find a small knick-knack as a souvenir for the first town he has visited outside of Marblestead. With Sam trying to get more information from Dennis the boy just listens and waits for an answer. Neferox continues to hawkishly watch Dennis to keep him of balance and nervous.
Elthana nods to the shop keep and starts looking around the store. Seeing that Sam has apparently taken care of the supplies that Gara had mentioned, she hopes they will be on their way shortly. Her ears perk up when there is mention of Hokum and she stops perusing to hear what the old man has to say about it.
"um that specific item is a magic feather token which summons a whip for an hour and does a lot of damage. I, um... wouldn't suggest it be used for pleasure *ahem*" Dennis begins "as for Hokum, the wise would know not to trust rumour, and the learned would know that the lack of actual news speaks volumes. I can't say I know anything for certain other than no news has arrived for some time. Anyway let me get those supplies!" And with that he turns and just about runs up the stairs behind him.
Gewyn walks up and spills a set of dice out onto the counter, placing a gold piece next to them. Then waits for Dennis to return, rolling and rerolling the dice to test their balance.
Dennis comes stumbling down the stairs once more, his hands full of four small bags. As he lays them out on the counter they clack like a dice bag. "Here's the food, I've thrown in some extra meat, they're the red ones, to prepare them drop into boiling water and you're away, DO NOT eat them as they are.. seriously." He looks around with a flare of warning confidence in his eyes,
"oh the dice set too, no problem, I'll just count this out first..." he looks around and counts out the payment for the supplies and the dice set and when that's all cleared, he looks up with a new found smile, "anything else before I serve the lady?"
Ebb mostly stays with the cart as the others move around town. The tellers message echoed in his mind along with flashes of his pervious vision. He felt uneasy and on edge but was doing his best to quell those feelings through exercise and meditation. After some time he decides to visit Habbog, the local cleric. It’s seemed a reasonable hour and he was confident that his travel guard would be able to tend to the carriage. He makes his way through the familiar path to her residence and gently raps oh her portal along with giving the portal a prayer of thanks to his god.

Vin looks around but doesn't seem to find anything of interest. "I'm good but thank you. You have a very nice shop but I don't see anything else I need." Vin looks to Nef who nods to teh shop keep as if they passed their judgement and are now being allowed to live. "Nef says that this tribute is acceptable." Nef then goes to walk away and looks at Elthana with a bit of a glare but doesn't do anything beyond just give a sense of disapproval towards her. Vin notices her at the same time and goes "Oh! Elthana. Hello! We just got some food and supplies. I think we are heading out as soon as everyone is ready once we get this back." He points to the food bags and then walks over to the counter and grabs two of the bags provided by Dennis.
As Nef glares at Elthana she lifts an eyebrow and looks to Vin, "What's your pups issue? Why am I getting the glare?" she then nods to Vin, "Good, we need to get going. Not sure if there is anything left in Hokum the way these people talk, but my curiosity is more than peaked for one thing."
Once Sam, Vin and Gewyn leave the counter, Elthana heads up and plops a dust covered large sack on top of the counter that lands with a thunk. "I'd like to purchase this."
Ebb finds Habbog's sanctuary easily and is warmly welcomed in by the clerics therein, he is offered refreshments, but does not have to wait long before Habbog herself greets him and beckons for him to join her in a private dining space. The inside of this QuAr outpost and Sanctuary are well kept and clean, the shrine is not highly intricate, not are the rooms furnished with more than the bare essentials, but Ebb feels a homely warmth to the place, one that can only be due to the love and care of it's keeper.
As most of the business in the wizard shop is concluded, Dennis takes a seat behind his counter. As Elthana plops down the dusty bag everyone can read words scrawled messily into the side of it, 'pot luck 5gp' "oh that old thing, it's not really for sale, um... the kids used to save up their pocket money and pick random things out of it, it's actually an old experiment of mine which failed, or should I say didn't act how I expected it to.. it used to be just one gold to pull something out, but then someone pulled out a gem the size of their hand and I had to put the price up to stop crowding. I'm not sure where it all comes from if I'm honest. Have a go if you like, 5 gold! No refunds though, most of the time it's crap, if you really want to buy it make me an offer, we'll see what we can do."
"Hold on just one second now!" Sam interjects, stepping up to the wizard when they try taking the coin.
"We wanted two weeks of rations and the like, just what is these clickety-clackety bags you're trying to shove off on us?" Sam follows up quickly, skepticism ripe in his voice. Sam most assuredly wants an explanation and likely even a demonstration. These four small bags hold nothing at all like what he considers food. The fact that the wizard thinks they're going off to Hokum to never be seen from again just makes Sam all the more suspicious that this so called wizard may be trying to pull a fast one on them.
((I'm OOC assuming this is some kind of magical "freeze drying" that preserves and shrinks food for easy travel? Unless this is something well known and that Sam has experience with, he would be quite dubious... We can just hand wave the explanation and proving, if you wish but Sam definitely would want to see the little things turn into actual food before he was satisfied. If it is known and he wouldn't be, just forget about this! lol...))
"I had heard something about the wizard buying food and selling it back, is this what that was all about?" Sam asks, after being convinced and such. "I admit, I thought perhaps you were shooting some kind of angle but this indeed could be worthwhile..."
