"my apologies, I had assumed you needed the solution much faster than that, to test the amount of time reduction you are asking for would take the next, hmmm... 12 hours at least, perhaps I assumed incorrectly. I could do a shorter test, have it less time reduction and therefore less distance from the isle, it would give me a more precise distance for your particular needs and in the meantime I'll give you all choice of our items! Is that acceptable?"
"I am not in the mood to be experimented on. If you say the situation on Shenoh is in hand, then perhaps we have time to rest properly. You can then test your solution for the next time we need to rest", Vin decides, for himself and Neferox at least.
Elthana looks a little surprised at Sam, "Well, if my experience is anything to go by, bad dreams shouldn't be ignored. It might be better to tell me."
She turns to Ginro, "Items? I would like to see these items."
“Did you escape the dreams while in Shenoh’s jewel cage thing?” Sam asks Elthana rather than explain his dream. At least for the moment. “Could you rest there? Cause I’m wondering if this pocket rest idea might put you far enough away to work as well?” He’s asking Elthana but also including Ginro in it.
“It’s definitely worth still testing the idea if we are staying here for any length of time. But if it’s not going to work for you we need a different solution anyway…”
“But while rest may be our biggest need, you all have things to be doing,” Sam says more directly to the Djinn. “Warn all the peoples of this realm. Build an army to take on the battles ahead. Bring in Allie’s you may not expect. Ömertyr was going to help recruit the giants, I believe… someone should be reaching out and trying to make amends and inroads to the kobolds and other previous outcasts… Maybe some of this is already being done? But this is more the war of the people of this realm than of our group here. We do have a vested interest in the outcome but we’re still just bit players in all this…”
Sam looks around and stops short, suddenly realizing he’d been speechifying. “Anyway, point is, we will do what we can but there is just a few of us, eh?”
Muir reasks his questions noticing Ginro did not answer them. He can't help but wonder.... He coughs and speaks again "How will you prevent the falling? This plane of existence is where exactly?”
Gewyn smiles and slides in front of Muir, hand on his chin. "Hmmm,"he says, a bit louder than his Loxodon companion. "How will you prevent the falling? This plane of existence is where exactly?"
With one person outright against the pocket dimension idea and one wanting a test first, the other two wanting a further explanation and one only interested in the items, Ginro's attention is a bit all over the place. He stick to what he knows best, summoning a staff to his hand with a large blue orb atop it he gestures. "This here is my pocket dimension, the plan would be to eject the orb at speed below the isle until it reaches the desired distance, once there an air brake device would be activated slowing your descent to a velocity below that of the isle. Then the only thing we need to go here is catch you again! Within the pocket you'll be invulnerable to outside damage, the risk is that the pocket itself could be taken by a stray roc or blågufa..."
Once explained ginro gives a nod to Sam and vin who had suggestions of their own, to Elthana he answers, "Ill have to bring you all to the secure room to see the items, and with that in mind I'd rather you were all together as a group, if others want to go back to bed now, it can wait"
"You do know there is a war going on?" Sam asks when told 'it can wait' but immediately follows it up with a dismissive wave and a shrug. "Whatever, whatever... Not my realm. The kid wants to get more rest so I suppose whoever else wants to may as well as well. Meanwhile you can do some testing of your pocket theory, I'm hoping?"
"I must admit, I don't really understand this whole slowing down theory but magic is always a bit beyond me, I suppose... I would have just thought that if slowing it down affected the relative time then so would speeding it up to catch us again," Sam says, thinking it through aloud. "But magic, eh? Go figure. Buy yeah, maybe see if a plant survives the process. Then maybe some small animals or children that have been misbehaving or something, eh?"
"How long does it take to get this secure room?", Vin asks, amenable to a quick detour from his rest. "I did say before I wanted to see the items before we rested anyway".
With regards the plan for resting faster, he can't help wonder what happens to them when the pocket dimension is accelerated below the isle, but his mind is a little foggy and so he doesn't mention it. Especially when Sam mentions speeding it up to catch it. Something didn't sound right at all, and he was glad to have taken himself out of that plan already.
"I do know there is a war going on, a war in its early stages of response to a threat that has built up over hundreds of years by the report. But I am also aware how entwined your group is with this Nivara." Ginro says glancing from Sam to Elthana. "I don't expect it would help matters if I was panicking or rushing you all off to the thundercloud without proper rest and preparation now would it?"
Turning to Vin, Ginro continues, "about a ten minute walk, not far, we'll have to go and see Professor Hu. She's somewhat of a quartermaster and has helped acquire the selection of items. We should walk and talk"
On the way down crystal corridors, the isle of Ginro seems more open than that of shenoh, there are doors with actual windows for you to see into labs and rooms where white clad scientists and wizards and such are testing theories, creating magic items and scribing new spells, deducing the very art of the arcane itself, or so Ginro says as he rambles on about the things you all see whilst you walk. Other sections have large windows looking out onto the flat plane of crystal outside. There are buildings there too like a large university campus, and above the skyline of buildings massive spires with circular insets seem to be catching wind as the isle falls and spinning something within, "generating power through wind and transferring the energy into heat and pressure which can be used for all sorts when piped around the isle!" Ginro explains gleefully
Ömertyr mentions something to ginro in giant and the Djiini is reminded to pass on a message, "ah yes, Muir, Ömertyr informs me that he has been busy whilst you all slept, he has collected two mildly tame Rocs through the teleporter from shenoh, they are currently stabled, fed and calmed with magic, a reactionary measure, they were apparently a little upset by the teleportation and we're lashing out, protecting what looks like some kind of clothing?"
Sam barely listens to Ginro's little spiel about all the great works they are doing here as he walks them down the hallways. Sam definitely hasn't taken to Ginro and definitely isn't going to be impressed or have his mind changed with words. But Sam is happy to have Scooby trotting alongside him, bending slightly to run his fingers through the dog's fur on occasion.
When Ömertyr mentiosn the Rocs protecting clothing Sam glances, reluctantly, over to Muir - Had he been walking around nekked all this time and Sam just hadn't noticed???
Elthana is curious as they start walking towards this Professor Hu. She wonders what Ginro would consider a Quartermaster, as well as what these items are and what they can do. The teleportation device sure was incredible, she wondered if this Professor Hu had anything to do with that?
She could barely peel her eyes from what was going on behind the doors. "All this that is happening.. is this a typical day or have things ramped up because of the war?"
At the mention of the Rocs, she smiles and looks to Muir to see if that makes him happy to hear they have arrived. She then drops back and bit and grabs Sam's arm, whispering in his ear for a brief moment.
Vin nods to Ginro, accepting of the ten minute walk to get to the secure room.
As he follows, he looks with interest at all the goings on of scientists and wizards, noting the scale of it all. He wonders about all the things he could learn at a place like, if only he had the intellect.
Neferox pads along beside him, seemingly not bothered by everything they are passing.
"So Ginro," Sam calls out loudly from a half dozen or so steps back, where he and Elthana had fallen behind to chat quietly... "What was Mori working on here before she got sent to Shinroh? 'Cause we know there she was busy making vampires and mornlyth and all kinds of evil. Were you all up to any of that here before she left? Evil, that is?"
Sam's hand isn't on his maul as he calls out this question, but it's not far from it. And Scooby, the mastiff, keeps walking at a pace so as to gain ground on those leading this little tour.
"This is a typical day, people here are encouraged to seek the knowledge in every corner of their specific area of expertise, though just now there are extra projects for weapon and armour enchantments, the bracers you gave us have helped, as has the compensation deal I made with shenoh during our hand over." Ginro smiles proudly at Elthana as he dismisses his orb topped staff and clasps his hand and prosthetic hook behind his back.
"Of course, just remember the sedation of the rocs was a necessary precaution, they might be resting when you decide to visit them. Though I would ask... Do you wish to keep these birds? They are wild animals, even if you have some druidic control over them or an agreement, they will always pine for the open air and their individuality. I don't mean to accuse you of anything, merely suggesting their freedom when you can." The Djiin answers to Muir with a respectful nod
At Sam's question, Gino stops outside of window into a particular lab. Alchemists boiling fluids in glass jars over heating crystals use slanted plates to capture the steam and funnel it into waiting flasks, a white clad Aarakocran measures a single drop from a small pipe into the funneled flask, and upon contact the liquid bursts through bright colours in a flashing rainbow display. "Bottled hypnotic patterns, alchemy can be beautiful as well as useful, but any science can be used for evils as well as progress... I was made aware of Mori when she rose through the ranks in shenoh, to my knowledge she never stepped foot on this isle... We're nearly at the secure room, just round this corner." He mentions changing the subject
Sam stops dead in his tracks when Ginro speaks of a "compensation deal" he made with Shenoh huring "our handover." Sam was well into the bottle last night but he doesn't recall any mention of anything being handed over. Or of any compensation... Was Ginro suggesting that the group, the Peacekeepers, were handed over by Shenoh? Sam tilts his head and studies the man. Or rather, the Djinn. Could he trust this Ginro? He didn't like him but that's not necessarily the same thing, or even connected...
Sam considers even as Ginro prattles on about the Rocs. If the group were "handed over" it would definitely explain why the Rocs were medicated. Perhaps overly so.
"Saying Mori never stepped foot on this isle is different than saying she never worked for, or with, you... We were told in Shenoh's throne room that Mori was sent to her from you. Was this a lie?" Sam has adjusted his grip on his maul. He's not precisely wielding the weapon about to strike... But it's not precisely the casual carry he usually has when just walking about. ((Maul is a big heavy thunker at the end of a long, heavy pole. I don't think he just wears it on his belt and drags it behind him...))
"Muir?" Sam asks, glancing at the Loxodon. "You buying this? 'Cause it's not exactly sitting right to me and if you and I agree... Well that would be unusual lately, eh?"
Listening to the conversation about Mori, and watching the alchemy being performed in the lab, a thought occurred to Vin. At the same time, Sam voiced his concerns in his usual adversarial and alienating manner.
He shakes his head and mutters, "Surprise, surprise, Nivara acting as Vox and Mori lied about where she came from", as he walks away around the corner indicated by Ginro. His own thought lost in the fog of his exhausted mind.
Ginro follows Vin's lead and points out a familiar looking vault door, the same model as the one to the store room where the mornlyf stocks were kept on shenoh's isle. "Exactly that, shenoh was given information from our creator and master, shenoh is a militaristic Djiin, questioning the information given by vox or asking me to verify it is simply beyond her prerogative, our relationship is transactional at best though we are akin to siblings it is simply not a fact that we are. But to answer the question more directly Sam, I have not worked directly with Mori, ever.if she ever worked on this isle, I have no memory of it nor can I imagine is there record of it, though of it would state your curiosity I could look into verifying that."
As the group arrive at the vault door, Fibro places a Keystone onto a recess made for it and the Vault door shakes with a loud scraping, after a moment it loosens and the Djiin swings open the door revealing a large room, within the room is a few tables with items upon them, behind one of the tables is a stressed and aged looking Owlin folk who adjusts a monocle on their beak and gives a quick respectful bow to the group as you all approach. "Good evening Professor Hu, these are the other realmers I spoke to you about, Elthana, Sam, Gewyn, Muir, and Vin, along with their assorted companions and guides. Ömertyr here is serving as one of those guides, we'll have to speak the trade language with them, ok?" Ginro says in a louder voice than usual as the Owlin leans forward to hear properly, likely suffering from an impairment in the ear department. The Owlin clicks their beak in acknowledgement as a response before looking to the group and with slow decisive movements waves them over to come closer.
Looking around the room, the wall opposite the Vault door is fully glass, behind the glass are rows upon rows of shelves on tracks, movable on one axis for ease of access and to close away items for safe keeping, the crates and boxes are meticulously labelled and recorded. Vin is reminded of the dead person on the uninhabited shard falling through the vast, apparently looking for a vault of riches, lost from Duun, could it be a vault like this?
"my apologies, I had assumed you needed the solution much faster than that, to test the amount of time reduction you are asking for would take the next, hmmm... 12 hours at least, perhaps I assumed incorrectly. “I’m rested plenty,” Sam answers a bit gruffly before looking to Elthana and the others. “I guess it’s up to you all to decide what you need…”
"I am not in the mood to be experimented on. If you say the situation on Shenoh is in hand, then perhaps we have time to rest properly. You can then test your solution for the next time we need to rest", Vin decides, for himself and Neferox at least.
