Grigor summons a mote of fire in his palm and throws it at the oil covered trunk and moths. The mote strikes and erupts a wave of flame blooming upwards. The moths sizzle their wings blackening and curling in the intense heat. The clearing is not wit with a red glow of fire. You all smell a scent not unlike roasting nuts as the creatures writhe and pop, their innards dripping to the ground.
Xorin notes a small break in the clearing to the north west, thankfully a way forward! With the brighter and less disorienting light he also notices that a disturbing amount of bones jut out from the leaf litter of the Black Oak. Here and there small glints shine out lit by the flickering fire.
The flames begin to spread into the Oak branches, Grigor notes the black colour of the tree is due to some kind of powdery coating [mould perhaps?].
Out in the dark the voice continues, "Oh good, good. This is most diverting."The sound of many hands applauding can be heard. "Congratulations, you succeed where so many have failed before." Sinister laughter echoes again through the trees. "How can I reward you?"
“Our gracious Lord”Says Ayrlin looking up but to no particular particular place answering to the ominous voice “we are honored that You in person are looking to us. “ He makes a reverence “we are not worthy of that honor, and we are both terrified and thrilled by your clever and deadly Labyrinth. But we don’t want to make you lose much more time. If you, kind and just Ruler, consider that we deserve a reward, please hand us the child so we can leave and don’t take away your attention from your important thoughts more time. “
He looks at the others and rise his shoulders and moves his lips saying
Kassandra picks up her sword and shield once she sees the immediate danger was over. She laughs loudly at Ayrlin's words, still riding the battle high.
"Or you can stop the petty mind tricks and illusions and send us on to the next real challenge in this labyrinth!"
Ayrlin opens his eyes widely and move his hands and head making gestures like "no no" and "what are you.. shhh!!" as Kassandra speaks. He then facepalm him.
"Kassandra, you are in the Feywild, here things are taking literally..."
He looks around expecting something horrible happen...
"Yes, let's be on our way before we get what what's coming to us." Braddik says, brushing the last of the biting bugs off of himself and stomping them dead.
Xorin holds up his dagger at the entrance to the path as Braddik moves through, the blade still glowing brightly from the light cantrip he used on it earlier.
"Anyone need a minute once we get out of his area?"

As you all move towards the shadowed path to the north west Kasandra notices a small rotting leather pouch partially covered by leaves, the light of the fire glints off of a glassy surface through one of the many holes in it.
"Oh a real challenge eh?" the voice ponders in the darkness. "And here I was going to reward you for doing so well..." A sinister chuckle threads its way through the trees to you all.
"Perhaps I can do both. It must be hard to find you way groping through this dark wood. Let me light the way!" The chuckle grows to full blown maniacal laughter, continuing long past where any normal mortal would need to draw breath.
Three lights wink into existence to the north, east, and west. They begin to slowly move towards you, the air grows cold and your ears detect faint haunting voices whispering. Ghostly withe balls of ice and light drift through the woods on an intercept path, as they do tiny streaks of lightning arc out to the trees and ground, leaving blackened spots where they touch.
You feel the hair on your neck, arms, and legs stand on end.
OOC:
Kasandra could you please roll for initiative for the party ;)
Grigor studies the ghostly balls of light as they grow near. To the best of his knowledge they look like Will-o-Wisps, but he notes differences in their behaviour and manifestation when compared to accounts he has read of them.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Grigor calls to the others: "They look like little Will-o-whisps but....their behavior is strange. Fascinating!....Well, Look out, these could be undead creatures!"
Knowing that, he'll try to adjust his strategy. "Well, it's time to try something else." After he says this, he prepares a new Spell. His movements are different now, he seems to make a kind of grip movement. At one of the whisps (the nearest to him) a skeletonized hand appears trying to grab him. Chill Touch
Attack: 24 Damage: 4
OOC: If it hits he have disadvantage on attacks against Grigor because he is undead (IF he is undead).

Xorin curses in elven briefly and backs up behind the main group. He raises a hand to another of these balls of light (a different one than Grigor and Ayrlin) and fires off ray of frost.
((I'm sort of having a hard time keeping up with what is going on here. Are we attacking? Rolling initiative? Is there some sort of order to this combat?))

((I'm sort of having a hard time keeping up with what is going on here. Are we attacking? Rolling initiative? Is there some sort of order to this combat?))
OOC: As far as initiative we are going with a one player [Kasandra seemed the most appropriate in this instance] rolls initiative for the entire group. I roll for the enemy. That way we only have two initiative scores to keep track of.
The party can then post in any order for their turn, and I will make sense of the chaos and massage it into a nice straight forward mess to keep the combat rolling along nicely.
From my perspective this is what has happened over the last few rounds;
You all broke free of the Moths charm like influence and killed the grubs. Whilst being continually taunted by a hidden entity, perhaps the Goblin King, out in the darkness of the wood.
An attempt to placate or flatter the creature taunting you all was made and then undone by some undiplomatic words.
This caused the entity out in the woods to sic some nasty glowy things on to the party as you all head for the north west exit to the clearing. These Corpse Candles are closing in from three points of the compass in attempt to block your way forwards.
Some of the party have attacked these creatures, others are considering a strategic withdrawal.
This is how I have read the situation, please feel free to ask for further clarification or correct any misconceptions I may have :)
