Sallah chases after Calwin. "Don't be so impulsive! We should listen to the others when they advise caution." That doesn't stop the gnome from joining with Calwin to the wagon. Sallah has his quarterstaff in hand, and the crystals on his gauntlets occasionally spark with electricity.
(Reminder that the next time Calwin is showing restraint, Sallah will be rash instead. If it gets too annoying for the party to have them alternate this behavior, then maybe both gnomes will eventually learn to curb their instincts. )

The group of you approach the tree line you can clearly see three humans, two men and a women, as well as a dog sitting on the ground. They look very tired, sweaty with small cuts and scrapes littering their face and arms. They are dressed in brown leathers that has seen it's fair share of use. They each have a number of knives on a belt. One of the men and the women have swords while the other man has a crossbow. They have red bandanas wrapped around their heads. Their weapons lay on the ground next to them and as they hear you approach they place a hand on them but do not pick them up. The dog sits back, it's tongue hanging out of it's mouth and tail wagging happily.
The wagon is basically destroyed. It lies on it's side, tipped so the bottom is facing you as you approach. The wheels and the back axel are broken.
@Agar
You do not see anyone else hiding the brush. You are able to see path through the woods where the wagon presumably came from. The branches are broken and trampled and combined with the deep ruts in the dirt you would guess they came flying out of the woods at a high speed before tipping over and losing control. Either that or it is a very well staged accident. I assume Agar has some experience with bandits, these people look like bandits...
The women raises her left hand up (while her right rests on her weapon), "Oy! Good to see some friendly faces this far from the road. Ya mind givin' us a hand seems we had a bit of trouble here." Her voice is tired and a bit weak. We shall say you are about 50 feet from them and the wagon when she calls out to you.

The wagon looks similar to the one Gehir is using, just a bit smaller. The tongue where you expect maybe one horse attached is snapped in half. Presumably there was a horse or mule or something but it is gone. The red bandanas are very generic and not affiliated with any gangs that you are aware of. There are no other identifiable symbols or markings that you can see.
The women starts to gingerly get to her feet taking her weapon with her, " 'ell it's been a 'ell of a day. We was mind our own business travelin' through the woods fer a reason that ya dont need t'bother wit when the damn horse got real spooked like. She took off through da'woods 'n when she came out this side. Me, Billy and Bobby here were ridin' on the wagon 'n nearly git thrown right off. The older man starts to get up, "Now Thorton, don't go tellin' these bookish type anymore they 'ight be bandits in clever disguise. I bet they fixin' to take what little we gots." He wipes a bit of blood from his face.
Sallah adds some warmth to his voice, to maybe calm them down. "What we were fixin' on doing was your wagon, maybe even that shattered wheel. My friend Calwin and myself have the minor spell of Mending, which given enough time will re-piece what is broken. We also have the tools needed, where manual labor is faster than magic.

Thorton sighs, "Aye, forgive me an' my mates. It ain't easy t'trust anyone out 'ere." She turns help Billy up off the ground when you all see a shuddering of the trees. The dog wheels and turns toward the tree line and starts barking and yelping at the commotion. You hear branches snapping as the trees appear to bend under some unseen force. Thorton scrambles back toward you all as she grabs the cross bow from the ground.
Two giant, lizard like beasts suddenly erupt from the tree line. These slender, bipedal creature have a double row of colorful, semicircular crests on top of their heads and a hooked jaw lined with sharp curved teeth. They stands about as high as a man, but more than 20 feet in length. A horrid screech fills the air from the creatures. Billy and Bobby never stood a chance as the two creatures bite into their flesh tearing the hapless men in two.
Thorton screams and back pedals and falls onto her backside in terror. The creatures glare at the group of you sensing a further meal.

If the pounce misses then the bite attack doesn't happen either. It's a powerful chain attack but it all has to hit or falls apart. Good use of shield. You take no damage.

((Sorry I should have described it. In keeping with Agar's whole shadow theme.))
With the creature lunging at him, hoping to knock him down so they could tear him to pieces no doubt, his choices became few. One, really. The shadow within. Though he had hoped to keep it a secret as long as possible, getting eaten was too high a price to pay. As he had in his dream, he called on the darkness - and it answered. Shadows all around him became seemingly animated as they flowed toward him and formed a barrier all around him. It wouldn't last long, he knew, and he'd have some explaining to do after this, but at least the creature's lunge was arrested before it could get to him. Neat trick, that, to make shadows solid. Guess anything goes with magic.
