"That is a valid concern," Fredrick says. "The fact that you are here with the containment box speaks enough of your survival ability. In case you missed the briefing that should have been given to you, we sent four boxes each with different groups. Each box is equipped with a rune that will recall it back to headquarters in case it is damaged. Two have been recalled the morning you leave. The other one is still missing, which either means that the escort died or it had once again been absconded. The last one, yours, is the only one that arrived.
"Truthfully, we have not been keeping this situation exactly quiet. We have contacted Timaril for help, but they regarded our concern with disinterest. We have reached out to the Time Agency in Shadowmere, but apart from information concerning the Meanwhile, they have not sent help. We even informed the Concordian Empire in the Root Anvil to send their best acolyte or cleric, but so far we have not received any replies. With the hole spreading day by day, we are doing what we can with the resources we currently have. Until the hole threatens the nearest city, which is Erdelun, the republic will not do anything. We have to do this by ourselves before it is too late.
"As I said before, I cannot send you through the wall to deal with whatever this is, but you will be well compensated if you do. Anything you find while in there is yours to keep. We are not really interested in what lies down there except the means to stop this. We have seven retainers that we can call to do this task, but they barely survived the last Meanwhile attack on the camp if not for Sego. I am a bit unsure of sending Sego by herself as she is the one protecting the camp as it is. If you do not want to do this, I will have to ask you to stay in the area to guard the camp until Sego return from beyond the wall. If you do, however, we will give you some supplies and an Om-Com to contact us. The Om-Com will allow us to contact each other in real-time as long as you are no farther than 1 mile from the other Om-Com."
Drexon looks around at the camp, "Would rather take the risk and see what is beyond than guard the camp myself".
"However, Eremoz does raise a good point, I am not interested in a one way suicide mission. How long will the portal remain open?", he asks.
"If we miss the window, you said we have to wait a month for another chance to cast the transmutation, right? In fact, will we be able to come and go for a period of time?".
As he talks, he feels the extra energy and vitality he was endowed with. He feels powerful and that makes him optimistic.
Not one month but one year. Each school is strongest at one certain date. Today it is transmutative magic. Next would be necromancy.
Sir caelum, something i missed in my studies is that divinitive magic has no date-driven catalist. Would you maybe be able to enlighten me in this matter?
"It will be brief," Fredrick says. "Etheric amber is a very powerful substance that doesn't really want to be transmuted into another form. Other materials that you might know that have the same inflexibility are mithril and adamantine. Using the power granted by today's phenomenon, the Light of Redmoon, where Niskala is at its closest to Sabitah this month, which is in about half an hour, the device and the ritual it is casting will bypass this inflexibility and allow the transmutation to occur. It will reform back in one hour, but after the first transmutation, the structural integrity of the etheric amber will be altered enough that we can reopen the portal with the treated piece of etheric amber that you are carrying instead of waiting for the Light of Redmoon again. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that this second transmutation will last as long as the first time or allow a large enough opening for a person to go through. If that is the case, we have a contingency plan that can be done in two months with the help of the Light of Setu to conjure a gate. We are hoping that whatever is causing this hole to spread will also allow the opening of the wall."
Fredrick turns to Karm and looks at him with interest. "Interesting question," he says. "The dates that arcane users know as the time Niskala is at its closest each month are very connected with the state of the arcane cradle that shrouds Sabitah. This cradle was said to have been created by the Heavenly Court, a group of 10 deities, each connected with a school of magic. When the War of the Best occurred, 3 of them fell from grace and brought their connection with the cradle with them. One of them is a deity that holds the connection with Divination magic. Astronomically speaking, Niskala appears the closest to Sabitah 10 times a year, and back then it constitutes 10 dates over the year when certain schools of magic are at their most powerful. When the 3 deities fell from grace, the cradle was reworked and thus the new calendar was changed to fit these 7 months and 7 dates for 7 deities instead of 10 months and 10 dates for 10 deities. The other 2 school of magic is still yet to be rediscovered, but I have a suspicion that it concerns chronurgy and graviturgy."
Cob, you feel a familiar presence that reminds you of the home you have only seen in stories of dreams before when you focus on the leaf. It also feels the same as the presence that the Seed of Passion exudes. You get the feeling that this leaf may be a sapling from the Seed of Passion or possibly one of the other three Seed of Sabitah. You look up from your examination and see Sego looking at you. She remains quiet, but she is now keeping a close eye on you.
With the agreement from the group, Fredrick grabs his device and brings the group in front of the amber wall. It is a 10 feet wide and 10 feet tall crystalline amber wall. You can faintly see a long corridor beyond the wall that seems to have been carved from the very ground itself. You can see a faint impression of a smooth wall that seems to have been preserved from the ravage of time.
Fredrick sets up the device in front of the amber wall and points the drill bit on the device to the very center of the wall. He takes the containment box that you have delivered and sets it on the device. The box opens and a small piece of yellow crystal with the same structure of the amber wall slot into place in the middle of the device. He waits until the time is correct and the device begins to hum. You see that the drill bit touches the amber wall and the entire wall shudders. Slowly, the amber wall turns an icy blue and mirrorlike. Fredrick touches the wall and it seems to break around his hand before he pulls it out.
We dont know what we are doing. But does anyone really?
when sir caelum gives the signal he says Alright what are we waiting for.
He starts to approach the wall and as he is about to pass through he turns around calls out walking backwards Tell my wife that i… His voice cuts out as he passes the threshhold.
The wall is freezing. It feels as if entering an icy lake in the middle of winter. You can feel your extremities and skin tingles with prickling frost before warmth and fresh air -- fresher than you have ever smelled before -- blasts your body as you emerge on the other side of the wall.
You are immediately faced with a long pristine corridor made entirely of smooth stone. Karm, as the first that enters through the wall, you notice that despite entering almost at the same time, you have to wait almost a minute before the others come through.
As you move along the corridor, you begin to see that it is well-lit by crystalline lamps on the ceiling. The clean and pristine condition of the wall begins to be marred with scorch marks. Still, the entire place doesn't have the appearance of something that has been hidden for hundreds if not thousands of years. There is a smell of smoke wafting through the air as if the scorch on the wall and floor have just been made not even a few minutes ago. Dvark, as someone who has seen many deaths, you can smell the scent of fresh dead bodies nearby.
At the end of the corridor, the path forks into three: to the left, straight ahead, and to the right.
Dvark grimaces and places a hand over his mouth. A pained look flashes across his face looks down. "Trouble ahead. The stench of death marks this place"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Yes. And the smoke in the air feels fresh. Dvark, how many seconds after me did you pass the threshhold?
Karm would line to investigate two things: first, does the stone here match with the stone „outside“ the hole? Second, can he determine the source of the scorch?
Investigation: 26
{{i now feel that i have to point out that i only rolled above a 10 maybe three times so far. And i think all intelligence based skills were never above a nat5. Im not complaining, i just think its funny}}
Karm, as you look around, the stone is not exactly the same in that the stone outside is heavily weathered and this one is seemingly brand new. You are not quite sure what can cause such scorch marks, but it seems to be more frequent the further you go along the corridor. It is as if there is a massive fight occurring not long ago.
"oh I'm not sure, a few seconds I think." Dvark shrugs at Karm.
Seeing Eremos about to start hammering Dvark interrupts. "Wait! I think we should try and keep ourselves quite atleast at first. Does anyone have chalk or something we can mark without making a ruckus?"

“That makes me feel better, thank you.” Eremoz begins stretching and warming up his shoulders.
He looks to his companions, “Any other pressing concern?”

Dvark fiddles with one of his copper coins as he considers the situation at hand.
"it seems as though our bases are covered as best the can be. Ah what the hell I'm not exactly long for this world anyway. I'm in."
"It seems like we are ready to take on this challenge", Drexon says, meeting the gaze of all the others to make sure he was right.
"Let us just hope we know what we are doing", he adds with a wry smile.

"Well then I guess we'd best be going" Dvark nods grimly to Sego and Fredrick. "see you on the other side!"
Drexon turns to Frederick.
"We will do our best to resolve the issues. Wish us luck", he says with a grin, knowing full well he usually makes his own luck.
He tips his hat and walks through the portal, stopping to look at Sego as he goes.
"Don't worry, we'll bring you back something nice", he says and then is gone.
Eremoz silently nods and steps through.
Cob slips the leaf into his pack and quickly flits through the gate after the others.

Eremoz runs his hand along the wall for a bit. “This is not what I expected.”
As they approach the intersection, he pulls out a piton and hammers it into the wall. “Just in case we get lost. Well, which way now?”
"oh I'm not sure, a few seconds I think." Dvark shrugs at Karm.
