Drexon pulls back slightly from the stranger as the unexpected thoughts tumble into his mind, but with his gamblers instinct manages to cover it with a stretch.
”Gone? I am sorry to hear that. Did your son leave, or…”, he says stopping without finishing the sentence.
Seeing into the mind of the stranger heightens the emotions that wash over him, enhancing the fix he feels. He knows he probably shouldn’t probe, but he can’t help it.
{{ Probe just means questions, not with the detect thoughts }}
"Leave?" The man barks a deprecating laugh before devolving into a dry sob. "I wish he just left. No, no, no, he was taken! He was taken in broad daylight and the lazy city guards haven't even done anything yet to find him! Nobody cares enough to look for my son. Not the mayor. Not the guards. So much for the safest city in Vortes. Useless the lot of them."
Hearing the man beginning to get more and more agitated and angry, Ara cut in and refill the man's glass with watered-down ale. "I'm sure they will find him, Beor," Ara says placatingly. "Just give them time."
"Time?!" Beor grumbles. "Five days he had been missing and the guards don't even have a single clue. The same with the other four children that have gone missing for longer than my Jeoff."
The more agitated Beor gets, the more emotions wash over Drexon.
"That is awful, both the abductions and the fact the guard cannot help. I am sorry you find yourself in this predicament", he says patting Beor's arm, before turning and walking away, satiated by the release of emotion.
As he turns his eyes flick to one of the card players, and he reaches into their mind as well, just briefly before the ability fades.
He returns to the table to find Cob idly playing his fiddle.
"It seems there have been some child abductions recently", he says flatly, if anyone is looking carefully at his eyes they will see his pupils are fully dilated.
{{ Just some surface thoughts of the random card player before the minute duration fades please }}
Dvark continues hammering for a minute as he finish processing his conversation. Then he takes out a small pair of reading glasses to inspect the mail. Satisfied with his work but still pondering his vision, he decides maybe talking to the others would do him some good afterall and returns to the pub.
On seeing Drexon and Cob sitting together in a serious discussion. He pulls up a chair to listen. {{Idk how long timeline wise has passed since Dvark went upstairs tbh but I'm gonna assume you guys are still sitting there now.}}
For you, always Karm rummages through his pockets and produces a crumpled up piece of parchment. It has lots of folds, but no writing on it. I dont have a pen on hand and he begins to stand up but sits back down. Well, actually i do... He lifts his hand and slaps it on the table and you hear the sound of wood knocking on wood and below his hand lies a ink pen, glowing, providing dim light out to 5ft. He pushes both items over to Eremoz together with 25 bronze coins
{{Also for reference, you arrive at Erdelun a couple of hours past sunset, so now it is probably around 9 or 10 in the evening.}}
"Can you help?" Beor asks Drexon. "I'll pay for it. I have 10 copper. That's all I have. You can have all of it. Just help find my boy."
Drexon, looking at the card players and reaching out into their minds, you can hear one of them pondering whether the person sitting in front of them is cheating. The thought goes along with suspecting the incredible luck the person has had during their card games for the last few weeks.
After a bit of waiting, Ara goes to the table all of you are at and serves you some hot meat stew and ale (for those who orders and pays the extra 5 bronze for dinner and breakfast).
"I will keep an eye out for anything that might be relevant, but I wuld need to discuss with my companions the prospect of looking into it ourselves. I am not sure how long we intend to stay in the area", Drexon says to Beor, as he walks away.
"I feel for the man", Drexon says as the others are assembling at the table. "The one who has lost his son. Is there any chance we can help him? Or are we in too much of a hurry?", he says to the others, envisioning the flow of emotion if he were to be re-united with the son. His eyes, though, are fixed on the card game. He focusses on the man mentally accused of cheating, and watches for any sign of it being true.
Dvark pays Ara, then waits for his stew to cool. "well, what does everyone's schedule look like tomorrow? I was planning to go into the town and look for a library or hospital to get some answers about my condition. From what my sources on high say, Jiminy isn't what we should worry about as he is a god and will show up when he pleases. Apperently the name will happen when it happens as well so I figure a library is a good place to start for that too. Anyone have any other engagements?"
"We've a hundred years and really no idea what we're looking for," Cob says. "If we were in a hurry I think we'd just be getting lost faster than usual. We should help find the lost kids."
He frowns a bit after he actually says the last sentence.
"Kids should be with their family." Cob adds. "Even if they're safe it takes a lot out of you to be away."
Drexon, you cannot see anything that would point to cheating, but you notice a strange flicker in the man's eye every time he looks at his cards and his opponents'.
After a while, Ara goes to your table to refill your drink and serve the rest of your food.
"I cannot help but hear Beor's plea to you, sir," Ara says, mainly to Drexon. "If I may advise, you best head to the Ranger's Conclave if you want more information. The City Guards are... reluctant to deal with those who live outside the city wall. All five children taken were from those who lived in either Ravenhills, Faete Grove, or Vort's End -- all outside the city wall. Beor himself lives in Faete Grove near Madam Zan's place. The rangers would be the ones to inquire as they are the ones who are still actively searching despite the city declaring them a lost cause."
He leaves you to your own thoughts and returns to manning the bar.
Drexon smiles at Ara and inclines his head slightly.
”My thanks for the tip”, he says before looking to Cob.
”You sound like you speak from experience?”, he asks him. “Shall we check out this Rangers Conclave in the morning? We can report back if you all have plans”, he adds the last bit looking around the table at the others.
{{Are we retiring for the night? I'll just put this here.}}
The night continues on with more patrons coming and going. Some, like you, grab supper and leave. Some others stay late into the night, japing and playing cards or dice. It proves to be a boisterous place as the night grows late and a little bit of shouting can be heard from disgruntled gentlemen losing a game or two.
You finish your meal and drink, and after a little bit more conversation retire for the night. Your sleep is just as restless as last night. The uncertainty of being in a time that you do not know is both a terrifying and exciting prospect. However, you have a semblance of a plan in mind. There is a man in need of help and a plethora of information to discover. That night, your sleep eases a little with the thought of having a clear goal in mind.
Breakfast is a quiet affair when you wake up the next morning. You can see a couple of patrons still slumped on the table, sleeping off the alcohol. Ara is standing in front of a table, lifting a chair that must have been broken sometime last night and scrubbing the floor beneath it from probably someone's regurgitated dinner.
When he sees Ara cleaning up someone else's reverse meal Karm goes over Let me help you there right quick and casts prestidigitation a few times to get some of the stains out of the wood. He then hands him 5 bronze coins. I missed my opportunity yesterday to pay for my meal. Did not intend to steal.
He then goes back to his companions. So, we have different goals today. Do you want to split up or just do things together consecutively?
Drexon sits at the table shuffling cards in one hand and sipping a hot beverage with the other.
"I am not averse to going to a library or some shops, but that does mean heading into the town proper", he says looking at the back of his hand where it was stamped the previous time.
"And with the child missing for five days, six now I guess, I think the father would appreciate some haste. Maybe it would be quicker to split up", he adds, remembering the strong emotion emanating from the man and imagining his joy at the return of his child.
Cob nibbles at some of the food on offer and takes in plenty of coffee, while at the same time asking Ara for directions to the Ranger's Conclave.
"Books should still be there later," Cob says. "But, Drex and I could fly on over to the Rangers and see what's what and then send word to the rest if we have to move on right away or not."
Drexon pulls back slightly from the stranger as the unexpected thoughts tumble into his mind, but with his gamblers instinct manages to cover it with a stretch.
