(The sun was just setting as they were getting to the station, correct?)
Cob thanks Gustav and slips the bottle of soup into his pack next to his new book.
As the group looks around the station and at the walls, Cob looks at the dwindling day light.
"The sun might be making the decision for us," Cob says. "It'll be harder for us to see anyone coming on the trail up to Bast Trench, and who knows if day and night affect the apparitions at all."
"The sun setting may be good for us actually. The dark doesn't really effect my eyes. And I can share my gift with all of you, at least for an our or so. We could try and travel on a short distance to try and get some cover before we rest?" Dvark seems to bee relaxing a little bit as the sun sets. "We could always try a carriage and we could rest along the road. I'd be willing to manage the carriage through the night while the rest of you recover from the day."
"The carriage might be the answer," Cob says. Then adds, "I can see grays and shapes fairly well in the darkness, but it's never the same as being able to see miles ahead of you.'
"True, but I haven't met anything that can see me before I see it." Dvark says, stretching his arms. "not that I'm excited to get into another box, but I really do like the carriage idea whether we ride through the night or just find our way down the road to avoid wandering eyes."
There are horse-drawn carriage taxis right outside the station, and all of them are following the road into and out of the city. You don't know if it can take you off the main road and around the city.
At the gate, you can see that each carriage is stopped by the city guard and checked. Each taxi passenger or anyone who enters the city is asked to bare the back of their hand so the guard can put a stamp on it. Any weapons found in the taxi carriage or on the passengers are immediately stamped with the same stamp or confiscated if the passenger refuses to comply with the stamp.
From where you are standing in front of the station, you can see an altercation happening at the gate between one of the travelers trying to enter the city and the city guards. The traveler seems to refuse to bare the back of their hand and instead makes a break into the city. They are immediately jettisoned back the way they came by a powerful force. The city wall pulses for a brief moment as arcane markings become visible on the surface of the wall before fading. The traveler is immediately grabbed by a pair of city guards, stamped, and escorted inside the city, probably to prison to wait for trial.
"Huh, that's the third one today," you hear a passing comment from the travelers and merchants around the station.
Drexon watches with the other's as the traveller that tried to dash in to the city is ejected.
"I guess not", he says with a chuckle in reply to Eremoz.
"How about we split up, some of us go into the city and hire a carriage, some go around the city and meet us on the road to Bast Trench", he offers by way of compromise.
"The box can stay with those outside the city?", he adds.
Cobweb watches the traveler try to make it into the city unstamped. His curiosity piqued. But when the person is thrown back by some unseen force, Cob actually laughs and claps his hands together.
"I could watch that all day," the fairy says.
He then moves over to one of the carriage-taxis and asks the driver.
"We're looking for transportation up to Bast Trench. Can you take us there directly from here?"
Dvark follows along with Cobb "I'll stick with him and try to keep him out of trouble since he likes darting around so much" he says to the rest of the group.
One of the driver whistles and shakes their head. "Bast Trench is a difficult trail even with carriage," one of the drivers says. "You'll have better luck waiting until morning at the east gate for Old Man Jiminy. His carriage is fitted for the trail. Three hours from here to there. Don't know how the old man do it with that mess of a trail."
"Don't want to enter the city, eh?" Another driver asks. "Go round along the north wall. There's a tavern near the east gate named High Trenches. Not as grand as At World's End or The Hills, but grab a room there and wake early. You'll find Old Man Jiminy there at dawn. He usually take Bast Trench trail, that crazy old man."
Drexon, you look around and see that you and the people that are coming out of the station are being stared at by the locals. There is a sense of wariness there. As you wait, you can see that the locals do wear purple on their person, just like Gustav says. A merchant has a dark purple leather band on their arm. Another wears a hat with faint purple stripes on it. Some other wears purple clothing, or have purple brooch on them.
When Cobweb and Dvark rejoin the others, Cob notices the stares from the locals.
"Hmm, that should make it easier to land a good room for the night," he muses to himself.
He then faces the group. "From the sounds of it, the fastest way up to Bast Trench will be with someone named Old Man Jiminy. But he won't be around until morning. There's a tavern on the other side, outside of the walls. Some place called the High Trenches. Since it's outside the walls it's going to be a dive. But cheap, and that's where Jiminy will be in the morning."
He looks around at the growing darkness.
"Inside at the World's End we'll get the protection of the walls tonight," Cob says then adds. "It'll be more expensive, but I can probably work something out with the owner to get us at least one room on the house, maybe more."
Eremoz stops fidgeting with his ball and thinks back to their instructions. “I don’t know if we can afford to spend the night. We have a day of travel ahead, but we need to be there by noon tomorrow.”
"They said this Jiminy guy can make the trip in three hours and he'll be around at the far gate at dawn tomorrow." Cob says. "We could get some rest and still be there well before noon."

Cob throws a salute to both drivers and showers them with colourful petals.
He turns around and bumps right into Dvark's chest.
Cob shakes his head and looks up at Dvark.
"Sounds like if we want to head up tonight we're using our own feet and wings," Cob says. "Maybe spending the night here isn't such a bad idea."
Dvark kneels to be on eye level with Cob "sorry about that didn't mean to startle you. You okay?"
After hearing Cob's new info Dvark relents. "Then I guess we rest outside the city and hope the splitters aren't as fast as the trains."
Drexon waits for Cob and Dvark to return, pulling out his cards and shuffling them idly as he keeps an eye out for trouble.

"we could also begin our rest now and be up before dawn and leave in time to make it before noon with or without this Jiminy.,"
"A local to guide us is difficult to pass up. Our chances of getting there would be increased greatly I would think", Drexon says.
He carries on shuffling his cards.
"Don't mind where we stay if we wait for Jiminy, personally".
