“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
Mill water finally is able to kill the goblin but not before taking 5 points of damage.
Meanwhile Veeshal is wondering if a search party may be needed to find their missing monk friend. Tailfeathers tells you of the fresh horse tracks she saw while bringing Danart to the group. Those there who understand the orc language hear Sorrow telling the goblins how tasty their flesh is when cooked. After getting a reaction from them and Danart, she asks them why they are in the village. The goblins respond in Orcish, "We were paid to cause an distraction. We were told no one in the village would bother us so we figured we could get some supplies and maybe run off with a girl or two or even a boy that would offer a tasty snack for us without causing too much of a ruckus."
Hearing this Danart looks to all of you and speaks in common. "If what they said is true then we need to figure out who was responsible for paying or however they enticed these goblins to come in such a number. He looks to Tail feathers. Could you take us over to where you saw the horse tracks?"
(Ye Gods! He did it again) he thinks while rubbing his forehead (probably a teaching moment, but I can't think.) He explores his aching head with both paws and counts 5 lumps. As Millwater gets up he realizes his foot's claws are firmly attached to the goblin's head. "Serves you right!" He hisses and plants his other foot on its head. 1st trying to jerk it free then kick it loose, when that doesn't work Mill goes full furball fury!
Millwater looks around "Thank Gods no one saw that." He checks out the goblin and it's equipment
Vee, looking troubled ‘We probably shud-if only we knew which way he went.’ He nods at Danart ‘What will the town do with these’ pointing at the captives.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
If the conversation with the goblins is conveyed to us then I'd say, keep grilling them for that information on who paid them. In the meantime, J'nah does what J'nah does best, try to figure out the track situation. :)
Sorrow sheathes the knife and pulls the axe off her back. ‘I never said they would go free-I just said I wouldn’t cook or eat them. Outlander justice right here’ she says in the Common tongue as she steps toward the captives, axe in hand ‘especially as they admitted they are in league with those causing the town mayhem. And were looking to steal much needed supplies-and children.’ She uses her foot to knock one over and step on its lower back. 'For those who didn't understand, I 'asked' (air quotes) what they were doing in the village, and they replied "We were paid to cause a distraction. We were told no one in the village would bother us so we figured we could get some supplies and maybe run off with a girl or two or even a boy that would offer a tasty snack for us without causing too much of a ruckus".' 'So Danart-what would the town normally do about this rabble?'
Millwater searches the goblins body before he heads back to the village.
Meanwhile Danart will tell everyone else, "I can have others take care of the bodies. As far as those left alive lets see what else they have to say." He approaches the four captives and picks out one at random. He picks it up by the throat before he sinks a dagger deep into its eye and twisting the knife. He drops the dead goblin anfter removing the dagger and looks at the other three. He talks ti them in Orcish. "If you do not want to become dead like your friend then you will answer some more questions. Who paid you to come here? How did they pay you? Why was it important for you all to create a diversion? Where did you meet to get paid and if not paid yet where were you to meet up to get paid?" The remaining goblins cower more in fear. For those that do not speak Orcish you heard Danart speaking to the remaining goblins in a harsh tone. It is clear that he is not happy with what has happened. The three goblins quickly answer him. "We were paid in five gold coins so that Ralfe could have his men come into the village and take a couple people away. We do not know how many or who they are just to cause a diversion. We have already been paid so we were to just head back home after we got done and the diversion was a success. We saw them leaving with some horses that had a couple bodies on them. We met with them north oif town in the treeline where we left first and I assume they followed not long after. They had six horses with them and four riders so I would assume they were to get one or two people unless they were children then that number could be 4 or more depending on their size." All three of them try to move away from Danart so they will not come to harm but with Sorrow there They do not more far at all.
Danart looks at Sorrow and says do with them as you will. Looking at the others he addresses Tail~feathers. "You said you saw horse tracks. Please lead me to them so we can see where the came from and where they went." He will wait for her to lead him to the spot she spotted the tracks. Once there he will look at them and ask her if she can tell anything about them. Looking at the tracks he will start to follow them moving north to see if and where they stopped. Once he has followed them out of town he will turn around and head back south following them again. This time however he stops at the first house the horses stopped at. You notice as well as he does that they are right outside a back window and the shutters are open. He looks into the window and you hear him curse loudly. Pulling his head back out he looks to you all and says, "The widow Granai is not in bed. I will go to the front and enter the house to make sure she is not inside but I believe she has been taken." Within three minutes he pokes his head out of the window. "She is not here so I fear I was right and she is gone. We must see if any one else was taken. He pulls the shutters close and you hear him lock them shut. A minute later he comes back to where you all are. Moving south once again you pass the spot where you first saw the tracks and soon stop by another house that has two open shutters. Looking into each room he shakes his head and you can see anger on his face. He rushes around the house and you can hear him when he slams the front door open. You hear him cursing as he goes from room to room. Soon his head pops out one of the open windows. "My sister Levitte is not here her husband has been knocked out but seem fine their daughter Merriam is also missing. She is just 11 years of age. I will make them pay if I can get my hands on them." He jumps out of the window and heads south following the tracks to the southern bridge He stops and looks at you. "For the sake of my sister and niece I bid you speed to find and rescue them. Bring me their leader alive if you can otherwise his head will suffice. As to who this "Ralfe" is I have no clue but feel that he may be their leader."
What is everyone's actions? Mill water you have caught up to the group by the time they made it to the bridge. Sorrow if you dealt with the goblins in your way you will have met with them as they were coming back south through the village following the tracks.
Millwater spots his companions up ahead and can sense urgency in their movements. Making haste, he catches up to them at the bridge. When he reaches Sorrow he says "I tried to follow the goblin back, but he saw me. So I attacked him" while rubbing his forehead "I was so focused on his sword, he damn near beat me to death head butting me." shaking his head"Had a few dirty coppers and silvers, but also 5 shining gold pieces as well." dumping the coins into her hand "The weapon and armor he had on were trash so I left it."
The munchkin listens as he is updated to the new situation.
"Looks like you found their leader, if he had the money the goblins were paid after all. I'm itching to get back out there, but how bad was that beating, do you need a rest?"
Turns to look at J'nah and says "I'll live, That gobo certainly uses his head, I'm much more concerned for the child right now!" with grim determination set in his face "Let's go stomp this horror!"
You see Sorrow coming from the village, at first seeimjng in a hurry to meet up but upon catching sight of Danart she intercepts him. They talk a moment. She places a hand on his shoulder and leans in almost touching forehead to forehead. They talk some more, quietly,. She nods and shakes her head a few times before letting go his shoulder.
Once everyone has gathered next to the bridge on the north side Danart and Sorrow speak to each other in a language that is similar to what they talked to the goblins in. After a brief but still lengthy chat they look to the group. During the discussion everyone saw Sorrow get up and close to Danart and was a bit frustrated/upset about something they were discussing. While this look never fully leaves Sorrows face you all wait for one of them to speak. At this time Danart looks to Sorrow and then back at the rest of the group. "I know you all would love to pursue and get those who were kidnapped back as soon as possible. I feel that way myself but on the same token they have horses as while we are on foot we will never catch them before they are at the caves and ready for any to approach. I feel that the best course of action is this." He beckons everyone closer and says in a much softer and quieter voice. "I will say this but one time and you should heed it well. There are people listening intently to what is being said through out this village and in the trees and forests around this area. After talking with Sorrow I feel that you should all head North and east to find and eliminate the ears that help those who are doing the kidnapping and those in the village use to listen. The caves of the Goblins is the next best course of action. These spies and distractions need to be stopped and take away the scouts for those that are south of here. Make haste along the river without crossing. I feel that there is a natural bridge or forge that they are using to cross the river to move quickly and freely back and forth. They may even have a bridge further upstream that even I have not seen so I am unsure about the ease in which they are crossing the river to move so fast. I believe the goblins have some worgs with them they are using to move more quickly and quietly also. I am hoping in the caves occupied by the goblins you can find more clues as to who Ralfe is as well as any people involved in this village. Sorrow and I both have a feeling that Seth is some how involved. While you are pursuing the goblins I will see about a nice chat with young Wil to see what if anything he knows about Seth and his involvement. Good luck with this new quest." Stepping back he says in a louder more normal voice. Good luck and happy hunting. Head east to see if you can find a trail that has been heavily used of late." He looks at each of you before he steps back and turns to leave.
As Danart turns his back and leaves, Millwater is shaking in fear. "Worgs are huge doggos, intelligent and evil to the core! More so than the gobos" He speaks softly to the group, not shaking anymore but his wide eyes betraying his bravado "We need to set a trap or ambush them, I don't think we can defeat them all head on. Tail Feathers and I would make the purrfect bait, as natural enemies we would appeal to their base instinct"
Out of breath, Millwater begins purring to calm himself down. His eyes close and his wringing hands form a steeple.
Sorrow slowly winks then waves a hand in dismissal ‘Bah-they can have all the time in the world and that’ll never be enough to plan for what I can do-or intend to do-to them when I catch them. I’m a trained Inquisitor, Hunter and Taxidermist-taking them apart one piece at a time, then skinning and separating each muscle from their bones-ahhh the screams and blood flowing should be exquisite! I plan to move South and follow that trail before it gets colder-after I eat my dinner and catch a nap that is’ She says loudly. She waves him off and squats down.
Looking Mill in the eye as she does ‘You all need to loudly disagree with me as to our next play. Need to see if we can get those who sneak quieter than me into the woods to either flush any watchers out or reduce their numbers’ She says softly.
Using a finger she writes in the dirt. ‘We’re going N NE to the gobs lair. Head thru town as if you’re leaving me to fume then see if you can blend into shadows.’Vid'Ma? Out loud She says ‘Mill, you and Tail try to lure the worgs here (finger stabbing as if at a map), and you’re absolutely right-the worgs would love to catch you two as prey and it’s a partially defendable spot. Ok, maybe not so good a defense spot but what the hell, the rest of us SHOULD be able to get there before they kill you. Probably. Maybe.’ She chuckles evilly. ‘And if not, Vee can most likely heal you. Of course, if he can’t, I’ve not had an opportunity to study a Tabaxii corpse before now so there is that…’
Veeshal, reading the note gets red in the face. He stares at Sorrows squatting form a minute, then when it's apparent she's done speaking for the moment, he lashes out with a boot catching her in the ribs and knocking her over to sprawl on her face. He steps on her cloak stalling her rise, then proceeds to stomp and kick and punch her, all the while shouting 'VEEDMA!" When he is out of breath he'll spit in her direction. 'And here I followed you all this time, believing you to be a righteous and virtuous crusader of justice!!' He storms off back toward town.
"I can rig up some pits and swinging pikes, but I'll take some time; less so with help. We would need to make sure the ambush site is well scouted because if it's not planned right, it'll be a lot of time spent for nothing... exactly how big are one of these worgs? so I know how big these pits need to be."
Speaking softly "Dig 2 holes for us to run into, the worgs won't see you with their heads in a hole!" and turns to look up to Tail Feathers "They will smell me before they see me" touching his head and showing her the fresh blood on his hands. "I'm hoping that will be enough to lure them away, if not ill try streaking naked on all 4s and hope the goblins are not hungry enough to chase the worg's meal. Can your magic create traps and the holes?"
After Veeshal's outburst "Too hell with this, I'm done!" He says loudly, waving crossed arms out.
Tail looks at the group, “There was fresh horse tracks about half way to Danart’s. They were heading south.”
"Do we need to send out a search party for Mill? Can we brink food and drinks and turn it into a real party, once found? That'd be fun!" Festoon offers , eager. "Maybe he met a friend on the way back?"
