Walt scrapes a little of the crimson mud up with his knife and moistens it, but he can't determine what exactly it is.
Baldar finds nothing but an old wooden floor covered with red handprints. Tuuli examines both the handprints and the floorboards as well. Investigation: 4
Tuuli finds little more than Baldar. She confirms the marks are all hands, no feet. She also notes that some of the floorboards have small gaps where the rotten wood has given way. She can see dirt and clay just a few inches beneath - there is no cellar here, not even a crawlspace.
As Tuuli and Baldar inspect the floorboards, Walt catches sight of something hidden beneath the furniture. He slowly gets up off the floor. His old bones and joints creak almost as much as the floorboards themselves.
He whispers to his friends in hushed tones, ”there appears to be some sort of painting beneath the furniture.” Walt moves the furniture revealing the painting of two children in water with hands pulling one of them under. “Look! This matches the artwork on the crumpled piece of parchment. Perhaps this is Kianna’s room?”

Meanwhile, Tuuli thinks a moment, then looks at Lucky, who scampers outside, down the steps off the porch, and looks for a way under the house. If he finds one, he will creep under the house, looking for anything unusual. If he doesn’t find one… Tuuli will have a suggestion to make.

Walt moves the chair and examines the artwork underneath it. In it, one child reaches for another who is being dragged into the water by large hands. The art style is indeed similar to that of the picture Aunt Dellie found in Promise. Scrapes in the muddy image form the name “Culley.”
Tuuli looks up. The low roof is immediately visible past rough-hewn beams. There appears to be no attic, at least above this room or the hallways.
Zoning out for a few moments to look through Lucky's eyes, Tuuli finds that there is a narrow gap under the house covered by a wooden skirt that has been broken in places, allowing Lucky to peak underneath. Investigation: 19
• There are freshly raised paths through the dirt, like mole tunnels, though no creatures are obvious.
• There is an old stone foundation underneath part of the house, much smaller than the house's current footprint. It rests underneath the northwest part of the house - under part of the porch, northwest hallway, and the pantry off the kitchen. It could be a cellar, or the foundation of an older home, or both.
"Ach, you're probably right Tuuli, but I really don't like the idea of fighting them. Maybe we can lure them out somehow? We should also check the other rooms for any surprises before we do though. I do reckon that painting is Kianna's, and I was tryin' to see if the handprints were all the same size, like do they all belong to Kianna. But I got gunk in me eye from those undead beasties and they all look the same to me. I'm gonna go check the room across the hall."
Baldar will move across the hall to the southeast door. She will listen first at the door, and when the others are ready, open it.
“We can get them to chase Lucky. We can all hide, and Lucky can try to lure them out and away, maybe into the fields. Then we can slip in, and I can snap him back to us.”
”But let’s definitely check all the rooms first.” She will back Baldar up at the door to the other room.

Baldar listens at the southeast door. Hearing nothing, she carefully opens it.
Inside is a bedroom, holding a bed and writing desk for a single occupant. Most of the space is neat and orderly, but the desk is strewn with art supplies and scraps of paper. A small closed chest sits against the wall. The room is unoccupied.
Tuuli peeks in as Baldar relaxes, and quickly spots the chest. She crouches down in front of it to look at it, without touching, shooing anyone else away.

Baldar goes to check the desk. (Looking at the art supplies: if there's anything that resembles the red muddy paint used to make the handprints. Also looking for any more drawings or paintings.)
Walt exits the room with the handprints and follows Bendrak as he peeks in the room to the northeast. He’ll stand behind him a few step allowing him space to flee if necessary.

Tuuli carefully examines the small chest. It appears to be untrapped and unlocked.
Baldar examines the desk and art supplies. There's not much paint, but there are many scraps of paper bearing fragmented images. She riffles through the paper on the desk and finds they contain repeating images of hands, lakes, and wide eyes looking up through water. The largest work shows a pair of eyes with handprints for pupils. All these images look similar in style to the picture Aunt Dellie found in Promise.
Bendrak, with Walt carefully watching, opens the northeast door. It's a dining room. A long plain table, a wooden sideboard, and several chairs lie shattered on the floor. The debris is streaked with crimson stains. The room is unoccupied.
Smiling sheepishly to herself, Tuuli nevertheless rummages carefully through the contents, remembering how she would hide things from her parents in a pile of small clothes.

(Ooc: I’m can Walt have a second go at investigating the painting now that he moved the furniture? I’ll roll just in case)

Tuuli notices two things through Lucky's eyes:
• There are freshly raised paths through the dirt, like mole tunnels, though no creatures are obvious.
• There is an old stone foundation underneath part of the house, much smaller than the house's current footprint. It rests underneath the northwest part of the house - under part of the porch, northwest hallway, and the pantry off the kitchen. It could be a cellar, or the foundation of an older home, or both.
Tuuli alerts the others to what she has found, as Lucky returns to (relative) safety at her side.
”We may need to get past those farmers after all…” She concludes.
