Faera casts shield as the first vine attempts to grab her and that also stops the second one.
Surprised by the surrounding vine people, she spins around evoking her bladesong and then steps one over to the left to be square with the two creatures that tried to ensnare her. Placing her hands together and palms facing the two of them, she casts burning hands at them, letting the flames fan out from her hands to engulf as many vines as possible.
(DEX save of 14 or 12 fire damage, half if saved)
Breathing a bit hard, she calls out to the rest, "Everyone alright?" she looks over at Mala and Thurodim, seeing them restrained by the things..
With Faera's quick reactions the wooden vines collide harmlessly with the magical shield and are safely deflected. Faera is not restrained or grappled, and takes no damage.
The vines retract back into the creatures who raise their other arms to prepare another assault. As they do, Faera releases a sheet of fire, and these otherwise implacable figures seem to recoil from the heat. Together they put up their arms to defend themselves and, although they are successful in protecting their core from the flames, the knotted vines of their arms blacken. (Save B: 20) (Save C: 19) They appear to be vulnerable to fire.
(No idea why my post was flagged and rolls changed as I never edited it. But the damage rolled was 12, not 8)
(The dice roller is so janky. More and more I'm rolling in Game Logs and Stat Blocks. That's probably what DDB want, I can't see them putting effort into fixing the Dice Roller sadly.)

Mala tries to break free of the vines that are holding her. (STR Save: 17) She then casts Blade Ward (as Bonus Action - resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from weapon attacks).
(OOC - I'm not sure if you'd consider the plant creature attacks to be weapons. So, if Blade Ward wouldn't work against those, then I'd cast Hunter's Mark instead.)
Mala tries to break free of the vines that are holding her. (STR Save: 14) She then casts Blade Ward (as Bonus Action - resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from weapon attacks).
(OOC - I'm not sure if you'd consider the plant creature attacks to be weapons. So, if Blade Ward wouldn't work against those, then I'd cast Hunter's Mark instead.)
(I'll count them as Natural Weapons for these purposes, I think it makes sense to use Blade Ward here as there has been an attack roll made. It wouldn't work against damage from falling rocks, for example.)
Mala is barely able to force the crushing vines away from her, but manages just enough to wriggle free. Casting her spell a shimmer passes over her body, and she knows that she has some level of protection now against the vine creatures attacks.
Seeing himself ensared by the writhing vines, Thurodim ROARs in frustration and rage, tearing the vines to shreds and stomping closer to the plant man, rasing Skullcleaver to cut it down.
With hands and teeth Thurodim tears his way free of the vines! He looms large over the creature, his axe held high. It views him disinterestedly with placid, green glowing eyes.
(I have just realised that I forgot a rule from these creatures (I'm making a habit of that) but it's too late now as we've moved on. Besides it would have resulted in a lot more damage to those caught in the vines, so I doubt you want me to reinstate it now!)
At the start of the new round everyone is free of the gilded vines, but all eight creatures still stand, and you get the sense from their mindless stares that they are unlikely to retreat or be reasoned with.
"Bad, bad, tree," Ghurr affirms again as he takes in what's happening to the others around him.
He contemplates channeling some of the energy he feels from the trees, and ground outside of the tower into his next attack, but not knowing how much strength the creature had left and seeing how many opponents are still around them, he sticks with hoping the magic of his blade will be enough.
Ghurr swings his glaive about again in a routine his companions will have started to recognize; a quick slash down with the blade, then allowing the momentum to carry the blade forward, the butt end slams down on the evil little twig. Finally Ghurr continues the momentum to slash out with the long blade again.
The vines which tried to grasp Ghurr before flail as they retract back into the creature, and perhaps the chaotic movement is enough to throw off his aim for his first swing of the blade. However he is able to correct as the momentum carries the foot of the glaive round and connects squarely with the creature. Splinters of wood explode from the impact and it collapses to the floor, the green light of its eyes extinguished.
Ghurr would you like to use your movement to get in range of another creature for your second attack?
(Apologies for the delay, work has been busy lately and that's my best time for posting, terrible work ethic I know!)
((Given Ghurr's long reach I imagine he only goes as far as the teleportation circle he is next to, or one of the squares just above it?))
Ghurr quickly assesses the room - what can he do most immediately? Seeing Mala surrounded by three of the creatures he uses his quick reactions to lash out at the nearest one. The gold and wood is cleaved through, and as the creature regains it's balance it turns it's placid face towards Ghurr.
Illithir's turn now, then the vine creatures turn.
Not a moment passed after his blade cut through the vines and the creature retaliated. The attack was strong, but nearly as fast as those of the Peryton and Ilithir could block with his shield in time. More importantly, he had kept what Ghuur called, with a degree of reason, a bad tree, away from his allies.
As the wooden claws were repelled by his shield, the aura around the monster dissipated and the elf almost reflexively followed with the blade, whispering the incantation of Booming Blade once more. It was a fast attack, but unstable and without proper technique. No way in the Hells it’ll hit, he felt almost immediately. I need to focus. I can’t be this hasty. The battle had just begun, acting in a hurry would only invite more mistakes, bring more opportunities to the enemies. Defeat from the jaws of victory rather than victory from the jaws of defeat.
“Don’t let them flank!” The silver haired man shouted. Not that he was in a position to give any kind of advice. As soon as I get this one down it’s back to ranged attacks. Provided none of his friends decide to get closer. He looked in the direction of Faera. Two plants around her. Mala position would be quite worse were not for Thurodim’s proximity but the half-orc himself could end flanked by the creature closest to the bed.
Notes: Ilithir casts Booming Blade again but with a 10 to hit I'm assuming he misses. Apologies for my delay. Also got some busy time on work these last few days, but things are getting back to normal.
The wooden vines which have now all been rebuffed by you gather back into the creatures. They raise their hands again, as one, and begin the attack anew.
VC A: Attack Thurodim: 16
Thurodim again finds himself wrapped in vines, which tighten and crush, though perhaps because he has now experienced this he knows how to avoid the worst of the damage (Dmg 6 bludgeoning)
VC B, C: Attack Faera: 14, 22
The two creatures whose vines were turned away by Faera's magic return to the attack. One reaches out but the damage caused by the fire causes the vines to spasm and they never reach Faera. However the other vines reach her, and again attempt to crush the life out of her. (Dmg C: 9 bludgeoning)
VC D: Attack Illithir:
The vines shift under your strike and the blade is carried away rather than cause any damage. Perhaps it feels you are too close, who knows what goes through this inscrutable creature's mind, but instead of reaching out with the vines of its arms you instead see vines begin to spread from its feet - they crawl up the walls and wardrobe next to the creature, and outward along the floor, attempting to wrap around your ankles and up your legs. Please make a STR saving throw, DC 13, or be Restrained. Vines cover the floor 15ft from the creature, making it Difficult Terrain.
VC F: Attack Ghurr: 17
Its attention drawn by the sudden attack, this creature takes a step towards Ghurr and again releases the vines of its arms. It almost misjudges the distance, but is just about able to grasp Ghurr around his own arms before increasing the pressure. (Dmg F: 12 bludgeoning)
VC G, H: Attack Mala: 17, 22
One drawn away by Ghurr, Mala is now only surrounded on two sides. However that is enough, and again she is unable to prevent the vines from gripping her tight and squeezing. A thin shimmering layer prevents the vines from crushing her quite as tightly, but does not protect against all damage. (Dmg: 8, 11 bludgeoning, halved from Blade Ward for a total of 9 dmg.)
Faera casts shield as the first vine attempts to grab her and that also stops the second one.
Surprised by the surrounding vine people, she spins around evoking her bladesong and then steps one over to the left to be square with the two creatures that tried to ensnare her.
