Thurodim's eyes widen as he sees the massive insects appear out of the ground and when one of them sprays Mala with viscous black liquid, he roars in anger, dropping his dwarven tankard, ale splashing as it hits the ground, grabbing mighty Skullcleaver, and with a fierce challenging howl he charges the insectoid, strong arms getting Skullcleaver in motion in wide arc, letting it fall mercilessly over the chitined monster as he recklessly charges into it, keeping the momentum of the axe to quickly follow with a reverse strike.
Bonus action: Rage (While you’re raging, your allies have advantage on melee attack rolls against any hostile creature within 5 feet of you.) Move action: Charge forward towards ankheg. Action: Attack twice with Skullcleaver, raging, attacking recklessly and -5 to attack and +10 to damage, all included in rolls.
Thurodim's first swing cleaves one of the creature's mandibles clean away - it spins in the air before landing point first in the dirt. Bringing his axe around in a great arc for a second attack, the blade embeds into the giant insect's face with a crunch. The legs skitter mindlessly for a moment before the ankheg collapses to the ground, its dead body twitching once or twice before laying still.

When the fire bolt whips past Ghurr and impacts the giant insect, Ghurr comes back to the situation around him.
"You big bug," Ghurr says as the creature tries to bite him.
The bugbear twirls his glaive in the air, slashing forward with the sharp curved blade, before swinging it back around to catch the insect in the midsection with the butt of the pole, then twirling it back to catch the creature in its mandibles. As he does, he focuses the feel of his boots on the ground and the energy pulsing through the earth, looking to tap into that energy and pull it up through his body, and into his glaive.
Ghurr's first swing with the glaive passes by harmlessly, but the return swing with the butt of the staff catches the bug unawares between the eyes. It shakes its head, and while distracted Ghurr drives the glaive in through its mouth. The ankheg shrieks, and attempts to push its way along the length of the weapon, mandibles clacking, and as they clash an inch away from his face, Ghurr summons the divine energies of the earth and emits them through the glaive. The ankheg's mouth glows brightly, and the cracks between the armour of its exoskeleton shine like a lantern. Ghurr rips out his glaive and the ankheg drops dead on the floor.
Faera, you suddenly feel a sense of panic from Oliver, an encouragement to look up. When you do, you see a huge shape above you in the night sky, silhouetted against the stars. There is a whump whump as it flaps its wings to stay aloft, and you feel it looking down at the scene, assessing briefly. It makes an almighty bellowing roar, before it turns and begins to move away to the south.
Towards the town.
Illithir, as the combat didn't last long enough for you to get a turn, I'm happy for you to take a turn against the creature in the sky if you wish.

Standing and panting with some frustration that the battle is over before it started, still steaming with adrenaline, Thurodim tries to calm down, his attention going to the sky above. (Assuming Thurodim catches sight of the flying beast, a roll to identify it. Nature: 18 )

Happy that the creatures are dealt with so swiftly, Faera is about to congratulate the group, when the feeling from Oliver is overpowering. Her mouth drops open as she takes in the giant creature in the sky, "Guys, um, that thing might be able to rip out hearts..." she points up towards it as it flies towards the town.
She tries to remember if she has ever seen such a beast or heard of it? Nature 10
"We need to move! It's heading towards town! I'll keep Oliver on it's path, Come on!!" and she starts running towards town.
Thurodim and Faera, you feel like some information is right there in your mind, but you can't quite grasp it. Now that you've seen the creature, albeit a silhouette on a dark night, it rings some bells - something rare, and dangerous, though if this is the killer that much is obvious. The wings suggest a huge bird, then there's that long neck, and perhaps some kind of plumage on its head?
Thurodim, you're definitely strong enough to carry anyone except Ghurr, but as you take off at a run there's no time to ask, only grab! If you so choose.
As the ankheg combat ended a little quicker than I expected I'm happy for Illithir to make a ranged attack before it gets too far, if he so wishes, and is prepared to accept the consequences... Let's say you may do this when it is 60ft away - 40ft in the air, and just after it has started to move away.
Ambushes were a rare thing on his line of work, mostly used to hunt for food and even then it was unlikely he would take part on it. He was, after all, far from a survivalist or hunter. Guarding, on the other hand, was the essence of his work. As silent as he could be the elf waited, his eyes going from Faera to Ghuur, then from him back to her. Just like the silver haired man expected the night came before any attack.
He thought something was out of place when the creatures jumped from under the ground. Besides the obvious abnormality of the situation there was the clear fact that they expected a creature with talons. Doesn’t matter, he decided preparing to attack. Before he could his friends had already defeated the creatures. Back to the watch, the Argent imagined when came the shadow. The sound of massive wings echoed through the air and the roar of a large beast guided him to the sight of a large creature. One that could have talons and easily reap hearts out.
It is when Faera talks about following it that Ilithir realizes, the thing is heading to the city. Fortunately, it was not out of his range. Calling upon his pact and focusing the energy of the weave on his arcane focus the spellcaster whisper arcane words. Raising his right hand he releases two beams of energy against the flying horror.
Notes: Ilithir casts Eldritch Blast against the flying creature. Rolls made without advantage and in the campaign log.
As Ilithir launches beams of energy into the air, Mala glances skyward, watching the beast fly past. She starts to sheathe her knives, as she readies to follow after the creature.
The first of Illithir's quickly thrown bolts strikes the creature in the sky, briefly illuminating a patch of grey-white feathers marred with streaks of red. The creature adjusts its flight just enough that the following bolt of energy passes by harmlessly. Otherwise it continues in the direction of the town, unperturbed by the attack.
Its speed in the air easily outmatches yours on the ground, even Thurodim who covers the ground more easily than his size would suggest possible. The creature's great wings bully the air, pushing its way over the trees.
The trees here are not densely packed, and you can easily keep track of where the beast is above you, even as it pulls away. You run and run, desperate to keep up, though the gentle incline of the land here makes itself felt in your calves and thighs.
Eventually the trees thin even more and you find yourselves back in the farmland north of the little town. In the dark, clear night you can make out a little light in the fields close to the town, just under a mile away. Lantern light. Someone has broken curfew and is in the path of whatever it is that flies before you.
Running point with great poeerful strides, Thurodim still keeps his pace so that the others won't fall behind, ready to recieve new instructions on where to head if Oliver still has eyes on the target. Perception to see flying beast: 18
He cursed under his breath as the creature evaded his second that and cursed even more when it continued its flight towards the city. The curfew is in effect, Ilithir started to think while running as far as he could. If we reach it, we can give battle without worrying. Solve this whole affair. Worse that could happen would be some property damage. Well, provided the creature was not heavy enough to bring walls down by virtue of attacks or fall. I’ll keep some energy for healing if I can. Better safe than sorry, after all.
“Bloody Hells!” He shouted when the light appeared on distance. Someone had the brilliant idea of staying outside and was about to pay the price of idiocy. “Don’t wait for us, Thurodim!” The half-orc seemed to be faster than everyone else. That meant he was the best chance of whoever was about to meet whatever that creature was. “I’ll give range support as soon as it is in range!”
That should be as good as keeping the pace with the paladin, although not nearly as good as if everyone else could move at his speed. Ilithir circled his mind through the spells he knew. None could hope to downright stop the thing. They couldn’t even reach it.
Notes: Ilithir is running full speed and using his action to dash, pursuing the flying creature.
Hearing Ilithir call out behind him, the massive half-orc picks up pace, trying to stride ahead towards the lantern light in the field, hoping to get there in time to stop any more heart-ripping in Soft's Rest.
Seeing the person that has broken curfew, Faera's heart drops. She was happy to get her eyes on the most likely culprit and they might actually be able to do some good. She has the sinking feeling they will be too late. As they continue to run, once the person gets within range, she'll send a message for them to Quick! Find cover, you're being hunted!!

Ghurr wipes his glaive clean on the grass, looking closely at the ankheg as he does.
"It not look like clean cut out heart," Ghurr says. "Think just find by bad luck."
But when Faera looks up into the sky, Ghurr follow and looks up a well.
"Giant bird beast maybe have big talons. Those cut out heart."

Ghurr, rather than trying to track the flying beast and run, instead just focuses on Thurodim and follows him as fast as he can.
When they reach town he just keeps going towards the person who has broken curfew. That’s bound to be where the creature will end up.
