Corvus is able to read exactly what Vex was able to pick up on from these guards. Gwen ponders on Gilded's comment of sleeping in the tavern being dangerous.
"I'll alert my men, warn them so they are ready to mobilize if the case is needed."
She waves to everyone in the group, everybody except Corvus that was. Though at the end she waves goodbye to Gilded,Vex,Jess, and of course Drez with the biggest smile on her face. These were probably the ones she had trusted the most though they were all good people. Well.. Almost all of them were.
"Be careful."
Gwen smiled as Drez offered her some words of encouragement. She was grateful but.. She wanted to grow stronger. She may have been stronger than any one member here but.. It one days worth of fighting they improved more than Gwen could in a month of training. How was such a thing possible? She didn't ponder much on it. Instead she left to go warn her men. The group had come in and their appeared to be about 12 guards in the tavern! That seemed like half the towns guards in here! The Bartender, the orc named Kristoph seemed a little more nervous but.. He smiled upon seeing Jess and Vex.
"If ain't my favorite two customers! How ya been?"
Jess is frustrated by this turn of events. Can’t we catch a small break? I just need a little rest. But outwardly she plays it cool, as she always has before.
She greets Kristoph warmly and says loudly, placing 5 gold pieces on the bar, “It’s a beautiful day in Glazing Winds, Let’s have a drink of the good stuff for me, my friends, and all of these hard-working guards in your fine establishment!”
“I’ve got some more gold for you, like I said. Just went out to complete another quest. We found some lot and something.. odd. You see, there were cultists, who follow a demon who is long gone. I have a suspicion that they are trying to bring it back into this world, and they said they will replace my beloved god, Fulgur. And all of these guards on high alert, it scares me. But, hey! We have helped the town with the trade problems a small bit.” Vex then gives Kristoph 12 gold.
Kristoph doesn't take Jess's money but he begins to make the ale for the group. Kristoph takes Vex's gold only to give it back to him with a rugged smile. Though he seems nervous as Vex brings up the guards a few look over at the group.
"Err.. I'm sorry to hear that friend. Please no more gold! I've more than enough to start helping the business! I'll earn what I can. You lot have been too kind. Especially you Vex."
It was clear.. He wanted to say more but he.. Wouldn't. Or maybe he couldn't?
Jess holds back a curse. This guy loves gold! It must be that he doesn’t want to be associated with them, not in front of the guards. Or he’s scared of the guards in some way. That’s Jess’s theory, and it makes her more worried.
Kocino looks around at the guards in the tavern. “Now that issue is becoming more obvious, I would like to reiterate that we should not be here. We need to finish our business or go find a safe place to rest.”
Gilded, being a Paladin does not in any way feel intimidated by the guards. He does however know that they should stay together. "We should not split up, not now. The young guards are nervous, and the old guards are edgy. We are in danger of being attacked and should be together if it happens. I do not want to get our friend Kristoph in trouble, so let's all go together, after we finish our drink to go see the guard that owes us money."
Corvus doesn't seem to care about how Gwen treats him, he's used to that kind of treatment, it's normal to him. When he enters the bar, he notes the guards. "Hmmm, perhaps it is us they are wary of." He smiles as an idea forms in his head, and a wry smile crosses his face. He reaches a hand into his purse and fingers the coins, then pulls it back out.
Looking around at the guards, he tries to pick out which one is in charge. Once he does, he will walk over to him. "Greetings," he says smoothly, "I couldn't help but notice your men seem a bit jumpy. Tell me, why is that? Perhaps we can be of assistance?"
Drezmir, in spite of how easily he'd been knocked out by the Jet Brothers, also is not intimidated by the guards. He eyes them, clearly something else is going on here. He doesn't like the way the barkeeper is acting--it meant the orc is not comfortable with these guards around. Why would that be?
Drez responds to Kocino and Gilded in a low tone, "I agree, we should get out of here. We don't want to make matters worse for our friend here, and we don't need to waste energy here when we have plans for later. We don't need a fight. Lets just go find that other guard, I want to know what's going on..." He lifts an eyebrow as Corvus approaches one of the guards...hopefully his inquiry doesn't backfire...
Gilded watches Corvus as he crosses to the guards. First Vex confronts them, now Corvus. He doesn't see this going well and places his hands on his sword hilt. He nudges Drez to do the same. "This may not go our way, be prepared." He whispers quietly.
Vex since they fought the cultists has been speaking with the kind of voice you would expect to come out of a medieval plague doctor, and his glaive and eyes slowly turn yellow, as he realises that they might have done something wrong.
Jess, feeling tensions rise, is going to edge to whichever side of the bar is closer to the exit, giving her option of getting out or else behind the bar.
Vex is able to see, it isn't the group making him nervous but rather the guards. He seems to be worried but.. It doesn't seem to be only about himself. Vex can feel a sense of gratitude this orc has to him and Jess. One of the guards looks at Vex with a side glance.
"Than I suggest you leave this town, we've already have Robin plotting against lord Simon we don't need you getting involved as well."
Corvus is able to hear his inner voice again a deep chuckle "She's feisty eh? Think she's onto you Corvus?"
The man eyes Corvus's coins with a stern look.
"Were ongoing an investigation, some have overheard you're talks against our lord. Although you have helped this town we will offer you a chance to leave in peace."
The man sounds firm and does not seem willing to budge on this.
OOC: Roll Perception/Insight to see which seems the head here to Corvus ^^
Drezmir moves his hand, but does not place it on the hilt of his sword. He does not want to further agitate the guards. Clearly someone has been listening in on their conversations with Gwen. Hesitating, he says to Gilded in a low voice, "We cannot leave town yet. This might be a bad idea, but I think we need to convince them that we are not against Simon. Also...well we know what the problem is now, so there's not much use trying to slip away. They are going to try and get us to leave no matter where we go."
He looks to the guard and says, "Surely, if someone has been listening in to our conversations here, they would know that we discussed the possibility of someone framing Simon. We are not involved in any plots against him. We are just trying to help where we can."
He pauses before saying, "However, we know we are outsiders here. So if you wish us to leave, then we can make preparations to do so. We don't want to cause trouble."
He is genuine in his remarks, since he does believe that there is still a chance Simon might not be the problem here. Even though there is some room for doubt, he believes that there is more to this plot than just Simon.
Persuasion: 5 (someday I'll get something in double digits lol)
Realizing he doesn't sound very persuasive, he glances at Gilded, hoping the paladin would be able to back him up.
