[Well, since it's been a while, to try minimizing lag once you come back, I'm also writing that Khessa would be back from exploring the mansion. Of course, if something happens that interrupts what I have in mind write it! We will resume play from that point and discard the rest.]
Khessa and Song return from the refugees clean, perfumed and loaded with useful equipment: provisions, bandages, pillows, wood for the fire, weapons (some only improvised, but better than nothing...), armour...
The blonde arcane warrior shows off her best smile, giving Clara the spiked armor: "Here, it's for you! Try it, it should protect you better than the clothes you're wearing!" she winks at her. Meanwhile she thinks: 'Thorny as you usually are, it seems to me completely suitable for you!'
The tall adventurer then announces to everyone: "The manes may return, so we won't stay here, we'll choose another building to rest. It won't be very comfortable... but, in case we get discovered, at least it will be easy to defend".
"Aster," Khessa turns to the drow "do you remember the office where we found the map? That's where I'd like you to lead everyone. I'll be right there... but first I'll make a small detour to throw off the manes in case they come back. I will disseminate some evident traces of our passage (food residues, some worthless object...); from what you have told me, the manes are not very intelligent... I expect that, not finding us here and seeing these 'traces', they will follow them. In doing so, I will lead them to the temple, the place where we found Seeby... and those cute critters who like to attack in packs. Once there, I will stop leaving traces and will join you all. Hopefully, the manes, at the temple, will meet (and clash) with the critters, both sides will come out weakened and, in any case, they will be too busy slaughtering each other to keep looking for us".
"Clara," the blonde arcane warrior asks her "I don't expect problems for my task, but just to be sure (in this place there can always be something unforeseen) I would prefer to have someone with me. Do you want to accompany me this time? We have never yet got to team up... We will hurry and as soon as we return you will be able to take care of the most wounded refugees again".
If Clara refuses, the tall adventurer keeps Song with her, since Aster is needed to guide the others to the new resting place.
After that, if no one objects, Khess tries to do exactly what he said... When she is in sight of the temple, she is particularly attentive to any new holes that suggest the presence of critters and in any case she does not go any further in person: she has her Unseen Servant place the final part of the 'traces', while she stays away.
If there are no difficulties, once she has reunited with the refugees in the office, she closes and barricades every access point she can, organizes guard shifts for safety, tries to cuddle Seeby a little and play with her (she also uses magic, now that she can! She enlightens the objects to be taken with Light, moving them by surprise with the Unseen Servant...) and, of course, she rests.
Last but not least: depending on what Song told her about Aster, Khessa might even decide to try to talk to the drow...
Song stutters as Khessa speaks about Aster. "Me and the, the drow man?! No, I don't... did he?"She seems quite shy about this topic. She presses ahead, saying, "I don't know, Khessa... He is quite handsome, I'd say. His looks remind me of a fiendish prince, I'd say. Well, maybe I shouldn't put it that way."She laughs. "My prince... I dream of a man with beautiful blonde locks, actually. Blonde hair, sharp blue eyes, and a kind heart. Could such a man love me, though? I've always been attracted to human men... since that's mostly who was in our village. I never considered the possibility of an elven man...
"What about you? Is Aster your type...?"
Back at the temporary shelter in the dwarven home, everyone welcomes you.. quietly, but with relief. Seeby runs to you and rubs its body along your shins like a regular house cat. Any attempts to pet it, however, are met with swats of its tentacles -- non-damaging, so a good sign nonetheless.
"For me?" Clara's eyes shine when you bestow her with the armor. "I appreciate this more than you know. Perhaps I'll have better chances to help you in the future fights we are sure to have."
Everyone listens intently to the plan. Moving house is quite scary for those among you that are less experienced with combat, but hearing that those small demons may return is enough to motivate them. Everyone begins to pack up what little they have and prepare for the short journey to the manor.
Aster nods his agreement, "A fine course of action, my lady. I will guide these people and place my trust in your abilities. Let's hope the manes take the bait."
Clara is patient and waits until you approach her. Once you ask her to join you, she hesitates, but says, "I have no qualms joining you, Khessa, but I worry... I know you trust the drow, and you have led us well so far, but I worry if the other drow come, would he not use our people as a bargaining chip for himself?"Clara seems like she is trying, but changing one's prejudices comes slowly. "If you think it's alright... I suppose at least Song will be there, though she seems..."Clara looks over to Song who is standing guard near the front door, but averting her eyes from anyone's direct gaze, "shy?"

[Welcome back deeeeeaaaaarrrr! I missed you much! But of course I know real life happens]
In the bath scene:
"Aster my type, you ask?" Khessa pretends to have never thought about it "I admit, like you, that he has that charming fiendish prince air... but, precisely because of that, even if he were interested in me, he would be too 'princely' for me, if you know what I mean! I could never get used to his overly refined manners... I like more down to earth people! I probably dream more of a good and hard-working country boy, or a practical and efficient mercenary, or a brilliant wizard with insatiable curiosity... but not a prince charming, Song... I would appreciate one to be nice or kind, but I wouldn't be comfortable with a too much princely behaviour. So, rest assured" she winks "I won't compete with you!"
To Seeby:
"Ah, you're a wild beast, huh? Not to be petted, but to be feared and shunned..." Khessa smiles at her displacer beast cub's attempts to 'hunt' her and plays with her for a while, partly making her hunt to things she moves (a dragged stick, a piece of string)... partly by having her own [Tooltip Not Found] move them by surprise!
But finally she, sighing, starts again to deal with what still remains to be done...
To Aster:
"You said they're not very smart... so I hope they fall for it," Khessa smirks "my Grand Duke!" - but he asked for it - he called her for the umpteenth time 'my lady'... "Anyway, when I get back, I need to talk to you in private for a moment about something important - so" she winks "I'll make sure to return!"
To Clara:
Khessa is very favorably impressed by the fact that Clara, despite her prejudices, seems willing to start trusting her: "Yes Clara," she smiles warmly "you'll see, it will be alright. I care about the safety of all of you at least as much as you do. And anyway you are right to feel reassured by the fact that Song is also there... as 'shy' as she may seem... you should have seen her, first, with me... with her help we were able to defeat infernal creatures - and not I'm speaking figuratively. They were little winged demons capable of unleashing your most terrible fears... As soon as we met them," the blonde arcane warrior still shudders thinking about it "they made me helpless, a prisoner of my personal nightmares... but Song was stronger than these fears. She managed to keep them busy until I recovered and so we could eliminate them. She is not comfortable with receiving compliments - perhaps because she too has long been a victim of prejudices? - but she still deserves many. Anyway, come on then! Let's blaze a false trail for the Manes, ensuring the safety of the people we both care so much about!"
[OK, short rest taken, thank you! If nothing worthy of note happens to Khessa and Clara, I'll follow with Khessa trying to open Aster's eyes to Song's virtues...]
Clara nods patiently, "As you wish, Khessa. I just wanted to make my feelings about this known, but to let you know I'm not completely obtuse... This is just a hard situation."She sighs. Clara is willing to let this go for now, but you suspect that if Aster does anything questionable, she will hold these doubts for a long time.
Moving on to Aster's whereabouts, he is currently being admonished by some human adults. The scene: there are human children behind the adults who stand like a wall between Aster and the kids. Aster holds his hands up apologetically, and he wears a nervous smile. There are 3 orbs emitting a soft light floating around behind him, they change between hues of pink, purple, and baby blue.
"My... It was just a bit of magic..."
"Regardless, the sight of you scares my daughter." A man at the front says with arms crossed.
"Understood..." Aster backs away with a sigh. When he turns away, he sees you and smiles, seeming to shrug off this last encounter with the humans. "Lady Khessa, I hope you are doing well."

[Sure! Can you imagine, Khessa, as kingmaker? With her mistrust of court etiquette? Absolutely best to be a matchmaker! Lol! We'll see how she fares, at least... So all went ok with the plan and Clara and Khessa are back, I assume...]
'Here we go again...'thinks Khessa, annoyed by the umpteenth clear demonstration of lack of trust in Aster by refugees that he himself has just helped to guide to a safe place!
The blonde arcane warrior approaches the children, smiling and without sudden movements... but also without slowing down in front of the human wall - as if this didn't exist - and crossing it to then bend over the children: "Come on, little ones" she takes off the gloves of the chain mail to stroke them freely. "Were you a little scared?" she winks at them "We all have been, in the past few days, you know? Even me! But now we're about to leave this bad place. We've found our way back out! In the light of the sun! Free! And no one will ever come to us again to do evil!"
'Or anyway, if someone comes with this intents, he will regret it bitterly!' promises the tall adventurer to herself.
"And do you know how we found our way?" Khessa takes one of the children in her arms, takes another by the hand and takes them with her, gradually approaching Aster; while she speaks, she stares her blue eyes into those of the children, so that they focus, possibly, more on her than on the drow "We found it with the help of this friend!" she nods to the now nearby Aster "That he's a bit black, like the ones who had hurt us, yes, it's true... but that he has such a good heart! You don't have to judge by how one is out... I'll show you that with a game!"
The blonde arcane warrior recovers two rags, showing the children that in one of them she wraps worthless stones and dirt, in the other she wraps some small fruits and sweets found in the mansion. Then with coal powder she dirties, on the outside, the rag containing the good things... now it's really black! At that point, she makes them choose: "Well, children, which rag do you want me to give you? The light one or the black one?"
When the children choose the black one, smiling, the tall adventuress opens it in front of them and lets them take the good things, emphasizing: "See? You understand it now, it's not very important how one is on the outside... it's more important what one has inside! The same thing applies to our friend Aster! So, is he still so scary? Come on, show that you're not small and fearful children, come here with me..."
After convincing the children to approach Aster, to touch him together with her (and thus ascertain that he does not seem more dangerous than other people), to speak to him and ask him things about what makes them curious, to also familiarize themselves with the magical lights (approach the lights together with her, play with them a bit together with her...) Khessa lets them go: "Good! Now, how would fine educated children say to their new friend Aster who found the way for us to leave this place and let us play with his magic lights?"
After the children are convinced to say 'Thank you', the blonde arcane warrior turns her blue eyes on the parents: "They are wonderful and we will do everything to get them safely out of here. I said 'we will'," she walks away with Aster "because I have someone to help me. And that's a good thing, or I would have been dead already. And all of you, young and old, would probably have followed me soon then. Think about it, okay?"
After that, moving far enough away for some privacy, she allows herself to answer what the drow had asked of her in the first place!
"Lady Khessa is satisfied, Grand Duke Aster!" smiles back Khessa "The red herring for the Manes has been prepared. This should allow us all to rest more peacefully... and maybe even weaken some of the monsters around".
"Thank you," continues the blonde arcane warrior "it was kind of you to ask me! Especially considering that you already had your problems... I saw that, despite everything you've contributed to us, there are still those who distrust you. I just hope they will learn to know you better, with time. It's a good thing Song at least trusts you... she... in many ways, she's like you. Kind, selfless, not easily deceived by appearances..."
"Not to mention that she is someone you can always count on!" adds the tall adventuress "Do you know that before, when she accompanied me in the exploration of the mansion, she too, like you, saved my life?" and she repeats what she has already told Clara about meeting the bat-like devils and how the young tiefling was intrepid and decisive.
"Maybe she too, like me, wouldn't have chosen a life of adventures..." reflects Khessa "yet she's very smart and resourceful! She can do well in these situations. Not to mention" she nudges the drow "she's also very pretty, right? You know what I think? You ... and she... Aster, I think you two are perfect for each other! You should definitely try to court her! I... trust me! I know her a lot and I know you a little, I think you two could be very happy together! This is an opportunity that you shouldn't miss... You have now had to leave your roots behind. It won't be easy for you to integrate elsewhere. Perhaps you will be forced to be an adventurer all your life. Not everyone could easily accept to bond to someone who leads such a life. I think Song could… and I also think that Song is a wonderful person! Tell me the truth, you were already thinking about that too, huh?"
Khessa's blue eyes burn with conviction and enthusiasm as they stare into those of the 'Grand Duke', hoping for…approval? Interest? However now Khessa is waiting to hear what her drow friend replies...
[lol the FLU. I will never not be sick. BUT I AM HERE I PROMISE]
Not all children approach, but those who do are entertained as Aster floats the lights between them. It seems the attitude towards Aster by the children has improved, at least.
Aster smirks at being referred to as a grand duke. It seems he is quite comfortable in this teasing game between friends. As he listens to you speak of Song, he remains quiet for much of it. In the end, he nods, "I do see what you mean, she is quite beautiful in a sense..." He trails off and twitches his nose, "I don't know that anyone here would like me to court them... except perhaps Clara?" He jokes. "Why are you thinking about such things? You surface-dwellers are an amusing bunch."

[Poor dear, I'm sorry... Have you tried adding a little more honey to your diet? It should strengthen your immune defenses... In addition, in this way, if by chance you were to fall ill all the same, you would at least have the consolation of having eaten something good and healthy...]
"Oh, Aster..." Khessa smiles "Maybe you're right, we are 'an amusing bunch'; we have so many other worries, every day in this dangerous place we don't know if it will be our last... and this thing occurred to me. Maybe it also depends on how different our perspectives are…” she thoughtfully brings a finger to her lips "you, Aster, enjoy the long life of an elf; the rest of us must seem like frantic moths to you in comparison! And yet, perhaps precisely for this reason, an important truth is clearer to us than to you: no matter how much time you have ahead of you, time does not wait, Aster. Every moment is unique (and worth living to the fullest). What you hesitate to do something today, you won't necessarily have the opportunity to do it tomorrow".
"I've gotten to know you a little, Aster," the blonde arcane warrior looks at him tenderly with her blue eyes "and I know you're selfless, generous... a good person. You deserve the pleasure of finding someone who can love you and share life with you (or at least the brief interlude of a happy love story). Echo has the same characteristics. You could get along very well, I see it... so, I, personally, would bless any attempt by you to... well, to start having a relation, if you would like. But better you do not wait too much, Aster".
"Time does not wait" continues the tall adventuress. "If we don't die sooner, we'll soon be out of here. And I'll look for a place where all these poor people can start a new life. But you? What about you, then? You see, it will take time for others to accept you! The fact that you belong to the same race as our oppressors closes the eyes of most to your remarkable qualities and merits. I don't like it, I try to counter this tendency, you see it, but I realize it is not easy. It will be difficult for you, to integrate yourself, in an alien environment, among people who don't trust you. The company of someone who trusts you to the point of loving you could be precious... Also because Song also risks similar difficulties, due to his appearance. you see that she is a tiefling. Everyone, the first time they see her, driven by ignorance and superstition, tends to distrust her. Together, you could better face your daily challenges better. Also, if you decide not to stop with the refugees, but to keep following me in the same dangerous life I've been leading lately, all the more reason you would struggle to find someone who will be by your side all your life. Who would bond with an adventurer? But if both of you were..."
"So?" smiles one last time Khessa "Does my suggestion still seem so 'amusing' to you? Or maybe it can make sense?"
[I think I need to do a lot of things differently. Its hard to break bad survival habits from when my son was a newborn, I think! I'll be okay, I just need time... and maybe more sun! Its very gray where I live.]
"I am quite charmed by your proposition."Aster smirks and holds his hand to his chin. He strokes it as he considers what you say. "I was never destined to romance anyone. Quite honestly I would have been lucky just to be allowed to live. You saw what my circumstances were... Maybe when we get out of here, I'll consider it further. Though... I doubt Song is interested. I suppose we shall see, won't we?" His eyes twinkle with mischief. He looks like a cat that has spotted a mouse.

[Oh, well, if you already have some ideas on how to improve things, I'm really glad and I certainly wish you success! I agree that too much gray does not help! I just hope you are not living in Barovia...]
"Oh, what are you saying, Aster!"Khessa enthusiastically pats the drow's shoulder "You just try to court her and you'll see! I'm sure Song isn't blind to your virtues... maybe, in our group, she's one of the few people we can say this about! You will be a perfect couple! I see that you are made for each other, I'm sure you can be really happy together!"
After that, the proud 'matchmaker' Khessa establishes the watch shifts for the night (making sure that one of the more experienced adventurers - either she, or Song, or Aster, or Clara - is always present in one of the shifts) and, when she goes to bed, she offers a silent prayer (to any god, demigod, angel or force of good who will listen) that the red herring prepared for the Manes works, thus leading to a peaceful night for all the refugees and to a mutual weakening of the forces of evil. She plays a bit with Seeby and she keeps the cub with her to sleep during the night - both to prevent the 'cute beast' from getting into trouble, and in any case to get her more and more used to her proximity.
If the night passes uneventful, the next day is the one in which, following the passage potentially infested by the Ankheg, the refugees could travel the final part of the journey, the one that will lead to the surface. The blonde arcane warrior would have wanted to set a trap for the Ankheg, just to be safe... perhaps burying him in a tunnel weakened with digging tools. Unfortunately, no digging tools were found. However, the tall adventurer has developed an alternative plan: given the great abundance of food and alcohol in the mansion, she would like to prepare a sort of food 'trail' for the Ankheg, in order to lead the insectoid, at least temporarily, along a different path than the one refugees have to follow. And she would also like to trick the Ankheg into drinking large quantities of alcohol (both by dunking the food left for the insectoid, and by leaving large quantities of alcohol in suitable pools from which the monster can easily drink). Alcohol contains sugars, it should be inviting for an insectoid such as the Ankheg... and the Ankheg, being definitely not used to drinking alcohol, could quite easily get drunk or otherwise sick - thus leaving even more time for the refugees to reach the salvation.
And so, once this umpteenth trap has been prepared, Khessa waits a while to allow the Ankheg to find the trail that will lead it out of the way and to start following, then she takes the lead of the expedition and tries to finally lead everyone to see the sun again!

The ankheg crawled out of its tunnel with a shudder and a rustle of legs, its bulbous eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of prey. It almost caught sight of Clara and Khessa, who were hiding [I'm sure??]. But then the creature's attention was drawn to a trail of food and alcohol, which had been carefully laid out by a clever adventurer hoping to distract the beast.
The ankheg hesitated for a moment, sensing something amiss. But the scent of the food and alcohol was too tempting to ignore. Slowly, carefully, it followed the trail away from Clara and Khessa, slithering its way through the underground world. With each click of its mandibles, the ankheg grew more agitated, its hunger driving it forward despite the danger that lurked around every corner. It seemed like it could turn around at any moment... but it never did. It seemed alert... perhaps worried?
As the ankheg vanished into the darkness, Clara watched with uncertainty. "We might have a couple hours of time bought with this trick,"she whispered to Khessa, knowing that she would have to remain vigilant despite the progress that they made. Clara had a determined look upon her face, hoping that the ankheg would remain distracted long enough for everyone to make their escape.

[Lol! Welcome back! I hope you're feeling better! You understood Khessa's intent quite well. Thank you for the 'clever adventurer'... I actively try to play Khessa this way, since she is both figher and wizard... so she should be inclined to use her wits in addition to her weapons. Plus it is so fun to try to think of tricks... Maybe I'm a scamp at heart 😉 ]
"Better than nothing" feels positive Khessa. "Plus I still hope it might get drunk or feel ill, giving us even more time... Let's go and lead the others! Surface... we are coming!"
[Honestly, you need to level up.. LOL! And I'm being serious, go level up. :)))]
Khessa and Clara arrived at the abandoned dwarven home in the Underdark with an uneasy anticipation. They had been there for an untold amount of time, hoping to eventually find their way out and return to the surface. As they neared the building, they could see the villagers they knew all looking tired and scared. Clara noticed, however, some joyful sounds coming from within the building.
Entering the house, the duo found that in one of the rooms was Song and Aster, who were playing with the village children. Despite the grim atmosphere around them, Clara couldn’t help but whisper to Khessa, "I suppose... That's nice... They get along quite well..." Khessa and Clara notice immediately that those two are stealing glances at each other without noticing at all. Despite how capable Song was or how crafty Aster could be, looking at them was like watching two schoolchildren try to figure out how to talk.
The duo stood by for another moment, watching the children laugh and play in their little world. One of them seeing Khessa and Clara's presence, waved at them and the villagers acknowledged their presence too. Everyone seemed more at ease. Everywhere they looked were exhausted and scared faces, but they could also see some looks of joy and hope, that seemed to be coming from the children.

Khessa is growing more and more confident in her abilities now that even the ploy devised to ward off the Ankheg seems to have worked. She feels both enthusiastic and proud at the thought of how many refugees are still alive... and on their way to freedom and salvation!
'If only I had managed to free my family too...' is the only regret - but this is soon set aside, because the practical spirit developed by the blonde arcane warrior promptly reminds her that, regarding this, for the moment there is nothing she can do 'But I'll be back! If I can save all these people from the Underdark... then I can come back one day and save my family too! Hold on, I haven't forgotten you... And I swear it: I'll come back for you!'
At the sight of the tender scene of Song and Aster, the heart of the tall adventuress seems to melt. Especially since even Clara, who had always seemed so 'thorny' to her, has kind and almost admiring words about it.
"They get along quite well because they are two soul mates" Khessa murmurs, in response to Clara. "Both different, almost alien. Both easy victims of distrust, when not of prejudice. Both good and altruistic. There are no words to explain how happy I am to see them like this. Only one thing they must be very careful:" she smiles, joking "not to forget to invite me and Seeby at their wedding!"
Even seeing some looks of joy and hope coming from the children is a real balm for Khessa's soul, who takes advantage of it to try to cheer up the others too: "It's done! The insectoid monster has begun to follow the false trail that we have prepared for him! And while he's gone... we'll go away as well! Come on people, one last effort and we'll all go back to see the light of day! Let's get ready, stick together and go! Life and freedom are ahead to us. For all of us! Let's go get them!"
And with that, the blonde arcane warrior helps the last stragglers get ready, gives a smile or an encouraging pat on the back to anyone who comes within range, then begins to lead all without delay towards... 'It almost seems too good to be true...'towards the surface!
The refugees move through the Underdark, and the sound of their footsteps on the jagged cave floor reverberates around them, echoing among the cold walls of the underground. A chill permeates the air, and the more they move forward, the more hope they feel.
The group is comprised of women, men, the elderly, and children, all armed with makeshift weapons and armor. Little ones stumble and the adults help them along, an act of solidarity that rallies their courage and carries them forward.
The further they walk, the closer they feel to the surface. The promise of freedom keeps them pressing forward. Fear is replaced with determination and hope. Their hearts become lighter as the fear of the Underdark fades away.
The children take each step in anticipation of the fresh air and the freedom of the sun. For the women and men, their minds drift to the thoughts of home and of those they left behind. Women and children cling to each other, their fear and weariness evident in each step. Those who are armed cling to their weapons, determination in their eyes as they shuffle through the darkness alongside their kin.
As the group moves through the tunnels of the Underdark, the darkness presses upon them. The sound of their footsteps and dripping water echoes off the rocks and stalagmites, the musty air cloying in their throats. Despite their exhaustion, a spark of hope burns in the hearts of this weary group.
They walk on, their makeshift weapons and armor clattering against one another. Even in their despair, the children try to keep up the courage of the group, singing songs to soothe their minds, even if the cave system deadens their voices.
As they move forward, the dim light of a distant cave entrance beckons to them. They seem to float towards it, and the further they travel, the more they come to believe that they can find the surface.
Suddenly, an old man turns to the group and shouts, “Look, the exit! We’re going to make it!”
The group breaks into a cheer, followed by an outbreak of relieved laughter and tears. Hope reigns once again.
They know they have a long way to go, and the dangers may be greater, but for the first time in a long while, they feel that they can reach the surface. The group unites in determination and courage, and so, progress towards their one shared hope.

The drow appeared from the shadows with a sudden, deadly grace as Aster shouted, "We are not alone!"Their white hair seemed to glow in the dim light of the Underdark as they launched their surprise attack on the group of refugees. Among the drow, five of them stood out. The three drow warriors charged forward with their shortswords drawn, while the spellcaster unleashed bolts of dark energy at the fleeing group. And then, from the darkness, the cloaked figure emerged, their movements impossible to track as they seamlessly switched between their shortsword and hand crossbow. The refugees were caught off guard, struggling to defend themselves against the drow's relentless assault.
The refugees scurried forward in the dimly lit tunnel, their hearts racing as they heard the sounds of the drow behind them. Their hurried footsteps echoed against the walls, sending chills down their spines. Suddenly, a hail of arrows whizzed past them, striking Song's shield with force as she dashed to defend the children. "Even if we run, they will catch up to some of us!"
They turned to face their attackers, their eyes widening in fear at the sight of the drow. The white-haired dark elves moved with lethal grace, their swords glinting in the dim light. The spellcaster amongst them unleashed a barrage of dark magic, sending deadly bolts of energy flying towards the refugees.
The refugees ducked and dodged, narrowly avoiding the deadly magic as the three drow with shortswords closed in. The last drow, shrouded in darkness, emerged from the shadows, a wicked smile playing on his lips. He launched a flurry of crossbow bolts at the refugees, who scrambled for cover under bramble which Clara had suddenly manifested, "Chauntea blesses me with purpose in this fight."
As the refugees fought for their lives, they knew that their only hope lay in reaching the surface. But with the drow hot on their heels, it seemed like an impossible task. How did they catch up to you? What about the ankheg you sent in their rough direction? Whatever the case may be, it seems that now is the time to fight!
[The drow average stealth rolls beat your average perceptions, AHH. However, Aster prevented you from being totally caught offguard. The above is flavor for the scene. You are on an open battlefield. You will fight the 5 specific drow, but there will be a side battle being rolled on between the refugees and the other, lesser drow forces, mostly because I don't want to have to overly consider 50 units or whatever on the field, but I will not allow children to perish because I can't for my own sake. Roll for initiative and give your initial impressions/reactions of the situation! Also, I will update some of the NPC statblocks soon with more abilities/spells, because some of them have acquired something. Song is not a paladin... yet.]

[Khessa wouldn't have been caught offguard - thanks to the feat bonus you kindly granted her on her creation, but many others would, so great Aster none the less!]
Khessa is furious beyond all limits: just now that salvation seemed at hand... this?! They must have used magic and their best knowledge of the Underdark to reach them... and now... now there's no choice!
"Good! Our persecutors, those who attacked us, kidnapped us, abused us, oppressed us... they found us!" shouts the blonde arcane warrior, overcoming the roar of the first skirmishes "Now we will show them that their idea wasn't the best they ever had! Come on! They are the only obstacle left that separates us from life and freedom! You already know what we have to do - and what we want to do: wipe them out!"
[Rolling initiative for Khessa - I don't remember how we usually do for the hirelings - I roll or you roll? Oh, and how far we are from the 5 drow we must fight?]
[I am here ahhh!]
In the bath scene:
Song stutters as Khessa speaks about Aster. "Me and the, the drow man?! No, I don't... did he?" She seems quite shy about this topic. She presses ahead, saying, "I don't know, Khessa... He is quite handsome, I'd say. His looks remind me of a fiendish prince, I'd say. Well, maybe I shouldn't put it that way." She laughs.
I know you trust the drow, and you have led us well so far, but I worry if the other drow come, would he not use our people as a bargaining chip for himself?" Clara seems like she is trying, but changing one's prejudices comes slowly. "If you think it's alright... I suppose at least Song will be there, though she seems..." Clara looks over to Song who is standing guard near the front door, but averting her eyes from anyone's direct gaze, "shy?"

[MATCHMAKER KHESSA!?]
Clara nods patiently, "As you wish, Khessa. I just wanted to make my feelings about this known, but to let you know I'm not completely obtuse... This is just a hard situation." She sighs.

'Here we go again...' thinks Khessa, annoyed by the umpteenth clear demonstration of lack of trust in Aster by refugees that he himself has just helped to guide to a safe place!

"I am quite charmed by your proposition." Aster smirks and holds his hand to his chin.

"Oh, what are you saying, Aster!" Khessa enthusiastically pats the drow's shoulder "You just try to court her and you'll see!

"We might have a couple hours of time bought with this trick," she whispered to Khessa, knowing that she would have to remain vigilant despite the progress that they made.

'It almost seems too good to be true...' towards the surface!

The drow appeared from the shadows with a sudden, deadly grace as Aster shouted, "We are not alone!" Their white hair seemed to glow in the dim light of the Underdark as they launched their surprise attack on the group of refugees.
