(DM makes some innocuous non-sinister rolls in the game log)
The wind is howling and snow obscures all. But Cyro gets a bad feeling, like hairs raising on the back of his neck, that something is wrong. Suddenly out of the swirling wall of white flakes he can see a hulking shape emerge! Humanoid but large, even a little bigger than Fro, white fur, large clawed hands, an ugly horned head. It gives a roar, showing sharp teeth, and lunges for your caribou!
Roll initiative - the yeti got a 21!!
Orvo got a 19. He curses even as he reaches for a hand axe, and in a quick fluid motion he hurls it at the yeti.
The caribou bleats loudly and desperately, rearing up against its rope, which is tied to Orvo and to a post he had hammered into the ground.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cyro will use his bow and shoot at the creature with one of his magic arrows. To hit: 18 Damage: 5 and uses bonus action to cast hail of thorns. Damage:6 with a dex save of 14. If the yeti succeeds in it’s dex save, he takes 3 damage.
(Faloniir removed his character but I can estimate what he would have done)
The yeti springs fourth at the caribou, ripping into it with its claws. The snow is sprayed red as the yeti tears out the caribou’s throat, and the poor thing collapses. All the red blood is quickly muted by the swirling falling snow. With a triumphant howl, the yeti fixes its gaze on Orvo with fierce intensity, and you see its eyes flash white. Orvo hesitates for a moment under that gaze but is able to shake it off as he hurls a hand axe at the white monster. The axe goes wide, disappearing into the swirling white.
Faloniir was also ambushed. He’s a bit slow getting his bow and arrow ready. That yeti came out of nowhere!
Them Cyro looses one of his viper arrows and it sinks deep into the yeti’s shoulder. Magical thorns burst out, aggravating the wound. The yeti howls in rage, its cries blending ominously with the howling wind of the blizzard, as though it were born of pure nature.
The great snow beast grabs the caribou with intent to carry it away into the blizzard, but the animal is securely tied by the ropes and almost jerked out of the yeti’s grip. It growls in rage and scrabbles at the ropes, severing them!
It also gives Cyro a malevolent glare, and the eyes flash white again. Cyro, make a DC13 constitution saving throw! You will take damage and be paralyzed and lose your turn if you fail.
Orvo throws his other axe and this time it connects, causing 6 damage!
Fro pounds the yeti with the maul, it slams into the monster’s side with a satisfying crunch. And Cyro strikes with another arrow hit, thorns again bursting out and widening the wound painfully. The yeti roars with rage.
Faloniir is able to loose an arrow which strikes the yeti in its side, 10 damage.
Massively wounded now with 50 damage, the yeti hurls the caribou’s body at Cyro and turns to run away. The caribou slams into Cyro, snow and blood spraying everywhere. Cyro takes 8 damage. Fro may take an opportunity attack as the yeti stumbles away back from whence it came. If that misses then the yeti will move 40 feet away into the blizzard and be heavily obscured by the swirling snow, giving disadvantage to non-melee attacks.
Orvo is fumbling with his crossbow, which he had put inside his pack to try to keep it out of the snow. He’s not ready to fire a shot yet.
The yeti turns away and Fro lunges forward with the hand axe, imbedding it deep in the monster’s spine. With one final cry the yeti collapses into the snow with blood pooling around it, dying.
Orvo’s eyes are a bit wide, betraying some obvious misgivings he is feeling. He tries to compose himself and haltingly explains,
“Well… The further we go, the worse the remorhazes, and so the animals tend to avoid those areas and become sparser. True, we haven’t gone too far, but it’ll be a factor. Obviously we have no choice, but if a remorhaz finds us before we find an elk or caribou…”
“The only thing to do right now is hunker down and wait out this storm.”

I don't think Fro can really be surprised..
You have advantage on DEX saving throws against effects that you can see while not blinded, deafened, or incapacitated.

Surprised might be a poor choice of words, consider it more like the yeti got the jump on you, you didn’t see it coming.

Orvo’s eyes are a bit wide, betraying some obvious misgivings he is feeling. He tries to compose himself and haltingly explains,
