Hey everyone, I thought it would be fun to run the Curse of Strahd again and, now that I have the time to DM a PbP campaign, I decided to go with it. I'd like to try to get a group together and then we'll talk about plans, house rules, and how we'll go about it all in general. So for the character apps, let's do this:

As usual, you can opt for a feat in place of ASIs starting at level 4. -I have no restrictions for race or class -Characters will level up as they go, and multi-classing is allowed.
There will be combat, but it will be mostly roleplay-oriented, so please take that into account.
I’m down to try a RP styled Strahd game. When you say ‘no feats’, does that mean for all the ASIs along the way as well? Or only for starting? Also, I’ll assume point buy for stats since everything else seems standardized.
Name: Kev Character:Usul Harj Race: Gnome Class: Rogue Background: Urchin Brief Backstory: Usul, and his family, were traveling when he was a very young gnome and decided to spend a couple of nights in Waterdeep. One night Usul, being the mischievous little gnome that he is, snuck down to the kitchen to pilfer some cookies when an explosion occurred upstairs, leaving him orphaned and alone in the city. Growing up on the streets with his weasel pet, he used his natural magic to each a few copper here and there to live off, though also occasionally found himself sneaking around trying to find something to sell for maybe even a full gold. That was how he got caught red handed by a gnome wizard in his tower, who fortunately took pity on the poor boy and instead of calling the guards, instead decided to let Usul work off his debt doing odd jobs around the wizard tower, and sometimes even further abroad, which is how Usul is now out and traveling a bit. Biggest Fear: being fully alone
Name: Hunter Character: Myllar Angelos Race: Aasimar Class: Cleric Background: Folk Hero Brief Backstory: As a young Aasimar, Myllar saw his mother moments before her death, and replays her last words "You are destined for greatness Myll... reach for it." Later named champion of his church and small town due to many feats of aiding and protection, Myllar set out for the greater destiny. The church that is led by his family is where he obtained the abilities from the Twilight Domain as a cleric. He eventually said his goodbyes to his sister and father, and was given a Glaive which has been in his family's possession for many generations. Setting off, Myllar has been searching for the next step in his destiny by traveling the lands. Biggest Fear: Failing his destiny as a hero.

Your name/nickname: Eresh Character name: Alcazar Tremayne Race: Reborn Class: Sorceror Character background: He knows he was executed for his crimes, but he also knows he would repeat them in an instant. The only solid truth that he clings to is that Strahd must be defeated. He remembers friends dying, bits of his childhood, and a doomed attempt to overthrow Strahd. Plans within plans. Deceit. Betrayal. Then pain, and flames, and despair. Finally, when all was darkness, there came the sound of a deep resonant bell, and a voice -- perhaps that of a woman, though it might have had a fey tinge -- summoning him back. Commanding him back. Since crawling up from the moist earth he has spent a long time (perhaps years -- it's hard for him to estimate the time properly) roaming the land just trying to remember more of his life, but through it all he has been searching for a means to renew his fight. Character's biggest fear: Finding his friends, and finding that they are now Strahd's minions.
Your name/nickname: NLG Character name: Fyknys (Fenis) the Sharp Race: Duergar Class: Barbarian Character background: Charlatan A little bit of backstory (about 5 sentences, more if you want): Born into a clan of Duergar known for their prowess in thievery and deception, Fyknys learned the tricks of the trade at a young age. However, tragedy struck when his clan was discovered by a group of powerful Drow and massacred. Fyknys was one of the few survivors and was forced to flee to the surface world. On the Surface World Fyknys has taken to effectively peddling Snake Oil under the guise of Barro the Magnificent in order to make a living, though admittedly his short temper and paranoia do get in the way. Character's biggest fear: Fyknys' clan was slaughtered by Drow by way of poisoning their food and then cutting them down. Because of this Fyknys is highly paranoid and his biggest fear is that the Drow will return to finish the job in much the same way. Because of this he chooses to eat only food he prepares, or has watched being made.

The tribe was essentially destroyed as many were kidnapped or killed leaving single digits of people behind. Ardena lost two of her brothers (one younger and one older) to the creatures taking then as well as her mother. She found her father's body when she emerged from her hiding spot. She wasn't normally one to hide and not fight but in this case she was ordered to take her younger sister and hide. This was lucky though as she managed to save her younger sister. Stricken with grief at her father's death she rallied with the other survivors of her tribe and arranged for them to hide somewhere safe while making sure her younger sister was safe with them. She began to track the creatures responsible learning a bit about what they were on the way. She was going to follow those creatures and hunt them down across all the lands if needed. Ideally she will save her family and the others in her tribe but if the worst is found she will at least kill the monstrosities and avenge her people. Hopefully this will at least give her little sister some peace knowing they won't come back.

Gnosis grew up in a secluded gnomish community in a cavern of the northern mountains. Is is 3-foot 2 inches tall, and weighs 63 pounds. He is 155 years old, grey haired and dark eyed. He worked primarily as a miner during his youth. Although he was proficient and bright as a child, due to his parent's poverty, he was often excluded and looked down upon by his peers. He is very socially awkward. After his parents died, he inherited a small sum and used it to purchase some books of arcana. He has studied enough to know the power of arcane knowledge, and is always seeking to learn more. He is protective of his knowledge and mistrustful of others. He is devoted to the idea that "Truth is beauty, beauty truth."

Apparently abandoned as a baby, she grew up in a Neverwinter orphanage, where the other children teased and bullied her for being shy and introverted. When she was only 12, Alys ran away and learned to survive on the streets, learning how to con people out of money and food in order to make a living. She even joined up with a local thieves guild for a time, but she left after a time because she hates the idea of being tied down anywhere. Never letting anyone get too close, Alys values independence and freedom above all else. Though she is loathe to admit it, deep down she has a compassionate streak, and she always goes out of her way to help people who are down on their luck, especially urchin children who remind her too much of herself. Having accrued a decent slice of wealth through her many grifts, life was going well enough for Alys when suddenly she found herself in a completely different land, a cold, dark, cursed place. An imposing man told her that she now belonged to him. She would receive great power, but her soul would forever serve him. Having always lived in the now, Alys didn't really think twice about the offer and accepted it gladly, eager at the chance to receive such power. Her patron's name? Strahd von Zarovich. Character's biggest fear: Losing control of herself or her mind; being enthralled by another.

A little bit of backstory (about 5 sentences, more if you want): He was created for one purpose: to fight. Constructed from metal, stone, and other materials by skilled artisans and imbued with life by powerful magic. Designed to be a tireless and unstoppable warrior, able to withstand the rigors of battle and emerge victorious.He was called to life during a time of war, and was sent to the front lines to fight against the enemy. He fought bravely and tirelessly, cutting down foes left and right with his massive weapons. But as the war dragged on, he began to question the purpose of your existence. Sawing your fellow Warforged fall in battle, their bodies broken and battered, and he wondered if there was more to life than just fighting. As the war came to an end, he decided to leave the battlefield behind and seek out his own path, searching for meaning and purpose.
Character's biggest fear: He fears being seen as nothing more than a machine, without the ability to feel or experience emotions like a living being and also fear losing their sense of self and their free will, as they were created and programmed to serve a specific purpose.

Zindarik's valor in a fight against a worg convinced the clan elders that he must be the one to represent the noble ideals of the clan to the people of Faerun. "Defend what is good and true, and in so doing make the name of Grimshard shine!" Such were the words uttered to Zindarik as the young dragonborn bid farewell to family and friends and took the first steps in carrying out the heroic duty placed upon him. 1. How do you want us to determine ability scores?
2. Any restrictions on race/class besides the 'no feat' rule?
3. Will we always stay LVL 1 (which honestly would be a great way to keep tension high) and will you allow multi-classing when the time comes?
