Dain turns to his companions. "What say you?" He asks them. "Shall we help these ladies out with their issue, and get a good payday out of it?" He clearly is on board with it himself.
Dain turns back to the women. "And what if we find it is neither of you two?" He asks. He holds up a hand as they are likely to burst into histerics at this idea. "Might not be possible, but I don't want you to not pay if we learn something you don't like."
"Unlikely, but if you take my offer and get to the bottom of it, I'll see you rewarded either way. I have nothing to hide."
"As if I do? Same offer here, if you take this on for me, I'll hold to the agreement and see you paid in gold and tastier food for life!"
((Taking the offer from the gnomes and their noodle shop, or the kobold seafood vendors? Both are offering 100 gp and lifetime meals, though getting paid by both of them would involve some amount of trickery and subterfuge.))

(how bout half does one, and half does the other? that way, we can split off to do the things we still need to do, but also can maximize coverage and investigations.)

"Well I think we can look into this." Dain says with a nod to both women. "I personally enjoy seafood more than noodles, so I, myself, will take the offer from the seafood shop." He glances to his companions. "I am sure some of you might like noodles more, so you should take that offer, and we can look into this from both angles." He turns back to the women. "We will find you at your shops when we have something to report."
Dain glances to Tandor. "We be looking at doing jobs, this be just another job, with decent pay. No reason not to do more work while we be in the area." he shrugs though. "Up to ye all if ye no want to be taking up this work though..."
Dain's suggestion that the party split and try to earn the promised food and gold from both of the vendors kicks off another fresh round of arguing and accusations, and the pair depart, still shouting at one another as they head back to their carts.

Dain watches the women go and shrugs. "Suppose they be figuring it out on their own then I be guessing..." He grumbles and turns to his companions. "Shall we be moving along, hopefully our friend be finding us soonish."
Dain turns to his companions. "What say you?" He asks them. "Shall we help these ladies out with their issue, and get a good payday out of it?" He clearly is on board with it himself.
Tandor moves up to Dain, while keeping a wary on the ladies. In a quiet voice, he says, "We do have that other thing, you know."

Liber is still holding the onions.
"yes, maybe do this quickly and be on our way."
"Yes, well... good. If you find me proof I can take to the Merchant's Collective, I'll see you're well fed, leave with a hundred gold in your pocket!"
"Hmmph, and what happens when they find evidence YOU are behind everything that keeps breaking with my cart?"
"Oh please, that thing has been falling apart since your grandfather's time!"

ooc: depends on how receptive everybody is to the concept.

Mialee moves in.
"Maybe we should just trust the assistant to find us. We were told we could wander about freely; if they're doing their job right it'll be fine."
Dain's persuasion is a 10.

Tandor shrugs. "Fine, but I vote for the fish monger," he says with a glance at Gilbert who just purrs happily.

"well, that didn't work." Liber sets the onions somewhere and cleans his hands of the remaining onion essence.
Dain watches the women go and shrugs. "Suppose they be figuring it out on their own then I be guessing..." He grumbles and turns to his companions. "Shall we be moving along, hopefully our friend be finding us soonish."
Liber shrugs, seeing as he now smells of onion. "might as well."
