The guards walk ahead of you all through the wide avenue. After a few minutes of walking, you can all feel the heat rising. You turn a bend, and there before you all is the eastern gate. Collapsed. Standing in front of it are three wizards wearing the Flaming Fist uniform maintaining a massive wall of fire while other members of the Fists remove stones and debris from the road. To your right, there is a wide tent filled with civilians. Standing in front of this tent is a large, dark skinned male human, bald head and an eyepatch. This man, adorned in red-coloured full plate armour, has his hands behind his back and watches the wall, occasionally.
He turns to you all as you approach. His eye immediately going to the guards. "What is the meaning of this?" He asks, his voice brisk and baritone, his hand shifting to rest on the pommel of his sheathed sword "tell me you're not working with these... guards."

Verona speaks up "No we are not working with them. We found them trying to incite more rioting. We were sent by Lieutenant Vane to look for the captain which I think is you right?"Shelooks to the wall of fire "What happened here and why the wall of fire?"
"Oh my..." Hope gasps when she sees the wall of fire. It is simply strange to behold. She walks up behind Verona as she addresses this armored man and nods with Verona's story. "Yes, we were attacked by these very men. It was awful and brutish..." She seems to get a bit weepy and frightful seeming.

Aurelia gives a husky laugh and swishes her tail in amusement at the suggestion she is with the guards.
"Rest assured Captain we are not with them. As my friends said we were attacked by these two and their comrades when we chanced on them inciting rioters. We slew four and took these two prisoner."
"They're yours if you want them Captain!" Flash says, stepping up. "Call them a gift, to a most worthy commander." He clasps his hands and bows low, but looks up and grins, slightly spoiling the image.
Leryin raises his eyebrows appreciatively as he sees the impressive work of magic, although his attention is soon captured by the people spread out around it. The captain, at least, wasn't hard to spot as he approached. He nods along in support of his companion's words, before giving a small bow. "I'm Leryin." He introduced himself. "Lieutenant Vane asked us to find you. She mentioned you've been having some trouble with riots, and these fellows seemed to have been stoking the flames." He nods at their two captive guards.
"Lieutenant Vane sent you?" He asks you all, relief on his face. "That is good. And I'm glad to know you've apprehended the culprits behind the riots. At least in part." He looks behind him and whistles. Two armoured figures jog over. "Take these two as prisoners and have them questioned." The Captain then looks at you, Verona and says: "The wall of fire was necessary. Riots broke out beyond the gates and a couple of mad artificers thought it a good idea to throw explosive concoctions on the walls.
"But why did Lieutenant Vane send you? Did something happen at the barracks?"

"She feared an attack at the barracks while you are away since your forces are stretched thin because of the unrest among the civilians."says Verona stepping a bit away from the wall of fire.
"Who are the Vathampurs? I... I am new to this area."Hope asks aloud to anyone native or in the know.

Thomas gives the captain a look. ‘I am Captain Thomas Drake, temporarily marooned here, and it seems temporarily press ganged into the Flaming Fist. What can we do to help start quelling the rioters and getting the city into a state were we’ll be able to leave?’
Leryin offers his contribution. "From what I understand, the situation is urgent. She'd like you to return as soon as possible."He holds his tongue as Hope asks her question, wondering if the captain had any pertinent information to divulge on the subject. Instead, he shoots a glance at the wall of flame. Hopefully the situation at the barracks weren't so dire yet.
"An attack at the barracks? Damn, this city is truly falling into depths I haven't seen... very well. What can you do, you ask? I have an agent that has been investigating the recent riots. The last report they gave me led me to believe there are cultists stirring the pot as it were. That was two tendays ago. I've told them to await word at the Elfsong tavern." The captain hands each of you a mark. "Present these marks to my agent. Her name is Tirana. Repeat these words to her so she knows you can be trusted: Within the depths, our flame shines."
He looks to you, Hope. "The Vathampurs are... a notoriously ambitious House. They felt snubbed when Lord Ravengard was appointed as Grand Duke of the city. Be wary of them if you cross any from their House."

Hope sighs with relief that the others asked. The captain's gaze was so intense, her heart started beating really quickly. She averts her eyes and looks at the ground, deep in thought, while the others gathered this vital information.

"Cultists, interesting," Flash says, stroking his scrappy beard, attempting to appear knowledgeable."I fought some Cultists of Baphomet once, you know," he says to whoever will listen. "Well, not really. They were prisoners dressed up in furs and things, but they put on a good show. So did I." He smiles at the memories. "Any idea who these Cultists worship, Captain? It could give us some idea on how to tackle them."
"Y, You fought cultists?" Hope was frightened at the idea, but relaxed. "Oh they were just prisoners... wait, prisoners?"

"Oh yes," says Flash happily. In the tones of someone who is happy to have found someone to discuss their hobby with, "It's quite a good idea actually. The Viziers get to save some space in the prisons, and the people get a good bit of theatre. And if the prisoners survive they get to go free, which is nice for them."
Verona quickly heads towards the East gate with the others.
