The area you are departing was relatively clear of nature, but as you travel the path north, the trees close in on you and choke out the sky above. It is quite dark now, with only a few beams of moonlight shining through the smallest of gaps between the tree branches. In this lightly obscured area, you can hear the hum of insects in the grasses besides you as you walk along. Coming from the crypt with your name and now walking through the calm forest, it almost feels like you are walking through a dream you have yet to awaken from.
(Lightly obscured currently means you have disadvantage on perception checks made on sight, and that applies to your passive as well, represented as a -5. So you are still sitting pretty with Passive Perception at a 15, but I wanted to make sure that was clear to you in case you wanted to light a torch or something to get back to your regular stats! I'll update more based on if you light a torch or if you decide to try to keep the obscurity as a shroud for yourself.)

I will continue in the dim light (not wanting to draw attention to myself), but if it gets to be total darkness I will light a torch and proceed cautiously. I will continue along the path.
You walk for a long time, before suddenly you are struck with the feeling of being watched. Turning quickly, you see nothing behind you... except for a creeping fog. You do not recall any fog before, but every moment you stand still, it seems to come closer and closer, just barely noticeable to your naked eye.
The wind seems to pick up, and as it blows, you can hear a faint whisper, a sweet nothing, but you can't understand what is being said if anything is being said at all. Every time the wind picks up, the fog moves even closer to your position. It's thick and you can't see past it.

As you run from the fog, so to does it pick up speed. As you run, sometimes you peer back and you can almost make out human faces in the mists... hundreds of them wallowing and wailing in anguish. This can't be happening. This can't be real!
The fog spills out of the forest to swallow up the road behind you. Running and running and running, finally you reach the top of a hill. Looking back, the fog has stopped, but its so dense you can't even see the trees. Ahead and down the hill, jutting from the impenetrable woods on both sides of the road, are high stone buttresses looming gray in the fog. Huge iron gates hang on the stonework. Dew clings with cold tenacity to the rusted bars. Two headless statues of armed guardians flank the gate, their heads now lying among the weeds at their feet. They greet you only with silence.

As with every waking nightmare, it is not courage that draws me on; it is the driving fear of staying still while wolves are howling. I pause at the threshold and peer into the gloom. If a monster hopes to spill my blood, I will at the very least see it coming and singe its flesh.
I light a torch and carry it in my left hand, gripping Beatrix's dagger tightly in my right.
Once through the gates, they unceremoniously slam shut behind you as if trapping you inside this realm. In the distance there is a lone wolf howl... As you continue forward down the path, seeing as there isn't much more you can do here... Your nose is met with the familiar scent of death. Whatever it is seems to be nearby. Another howl joins the chorus.
Will you explore the scent or will you keep moving forward?

It isn't hard for her to follow the scent of death... she finds a partially eaten body off the path just 10 or so feet behind a bush. The body of what used to be a masculine human lays in shambles and a dark stain rests beneath it. This person's dead stare is wide open and the last expression they had was of fear. They seem to clutch a letter in their hand, the wax seal keeping it closed signifies its importance. A third wolf howl is heard now, joined by two others. It seems eerily closer than before.

Holly clutches the letter as she makes her way back to the road and continues onward. There is a bit of flight to her step as she feels like the wolf howls are nipping at her heels. The howls are never far behind her, no matter how quickly she moves. It feels like she is being watched by hungry animals.
Soon she breaks away from the trees and reaches a valley of dark and murky green. In the distance, she can see a settlement surrounded by farm lands. To the south, Holly sees a river. This river flows as clear as a blue winter sky through the valley.
Pressing forward, Holly may take a look behind her, wary of the wolves still following her. She is surprised to see a tall, black dire wolf standing at the top of the road. It is flanked by dire wolves of white and gray fur, but the black one stands out the most as it towers over all others. Its eyes flash red like rubies, watching Holly with undeniable intelligence. It does not approach her or howl. The dire wolves at its flanks snarl and snap, as if warning Holly to never return.

I begin to run away from the fog. If I become trapped by the fog, I will light a torch.

I... creep in through the damp gates.

Holly will investigate the smell, but try to be as stealthy as is possible while holding a burning torch.
Stealth Check: 17

I snatch the letter from the bloodstained hands and hurry on away from the grizzly scene. I will open it in a less obviously dangerous spot.
(Perfect.)
