The glyphs look slightly familiar to Rel; you think maybe you've seen ones like them in one of your spelljamming theory books but you can't quite be sure. In any case, they don't seem to react to you at all; perhaps their power has long since faded away, or maybe they are tuned to only react to beholder physiology.
[Does anyone have anything else they want to do before we skip forward a little? (The helm installation takes a little time and effort but no skill check or anything, we don't need to RP that I think)]
Zaius accompanies Rel to the other chambers, providing some security as the Captain investigates the glyphs. “Ask Veena. I am sure she knows, she knows everything…and she makes sure you know she does.” (I am ok moving forward)
It has been almost two and a half hours since Gloix took his place at the helm and launched the Tyrant ship toward the edges of Realmspace at spelljamming speed, and the seas of Toril lie ten million miles behind you. While the rest of you relax on the command deck [everyone can take a short rest], up on the cargo deck Petty Office Ryeback and his team of students have prepared a cold luncheon for you all and are getting ready to start on dinner. Veena and Rel are passing through the large middle space of the command deck, platters of sandwiches in hand, when they notice faint sounds, like the distant clang of metal on stone, coming from the circular hatch in the middle of the floor.
The satyr looks around at the others. "We should probably check that out. On the count of three, Gloix and I will open the hatch, the rest of you get ready to attack in case something is trying to get in. Ready? 1.... 2.... 3!"
Zaius puts his sandwich down and jumps at Rel’s warning. He approaches the hatch and draws his scimitar, ready to attack anything that appears and attacks him or one of his companions. “Go ahead, open it up”he nods to Rel.
Nothing immediately jumps out at you. The sounds of movement are clearer now, and you can also hear clicking noises that Gloix would immediately recognise as the Thri-kreen language, though it's still too faint from this side of the hatch to quite make out what's being said.
[I will at this point remind you that Stealth is a thing, should you want to try to take a look through unnoticed. Or you could just charge on through...]
Rel's head spins a little as he pokes it through the hatch, which appears to be positioned precisely on the ship's gravity plane. This deck is one large, bowl-shaped chamber containing several large piles of mechanical parts, with many more parts strewn across the floor. Several partially disassembled autognomes are among the wreckage, and picking them apart are three insectile creatures made of gleaming metal.
The creatures don't seem to notice Rel observing them, and continue their grim work, occasionally seeming to find particular part they're looking for, which they carry over to the inert form of a fourth, partially-assembled companion.
Rel quietly withdraws and whispers to his companions what he has seen. "I think we should assume them to be hostile raiders, but they may believe the ship to be abandoned. Options? We could try to parley with them through GLoix. Or we could try a surprise assault, although they look formidable. Anyone have a briliant idea?
Zaius points out that it looks like the creatures are salvaging parts to create or repair more of their kind “We need to take care of it somehow, the longer they have, the more of them there will be to detail with later.”Zaius nods at Roy’s plan “A sound idea, see what Gloix can get out of them.”He settles down to see what happens next.
Rel will Investigate 13 the glyph chamber.

The satyr turns to Gloix, "Any of this look familiar to you? I'm stumped."

(Erma short rest healing: 5, 6)
Rel spends two hit dice (17 hp healed, roll in game log)
(Does it sound like someone is banging on the hatch, or trying to open it?)
Zaius spends two hit die 5, 4.

[It doesn't sound like banging on the hatch itself... it has more of a "your upstairs neighbours are moving furniture around" kind of vibe]

Rel will attempt to creep silently to the edge of the hatch and peer through without being obvious.

Zaius slides his scimitar back into its scabbard and cocks his head, listening closely to the sounds coming out of the hatch. Perception: 7.

"Yes, try to parley through Gloix with the rest of us here out of sight but ready to go in and drop the hammer on them should things go south."

Erma stands very still in order to not make any noises with her heavy armor.
She whispers, "Should it come to a fight then please do it at the door when only one of them can get at us at once."
