OBSTACLE COURSE
Each contestant will complete an obstacle course by using a combination of strength, dexterity, and intelligence. Strength and dexterity are the applicable attributes for running, climbing, jumping, and so forth. Intelligence is the applicable attribute for the problem-solving component of the course: quickly building a temporary, makeshift bridge out of scrap lumber that you can use to cross from one raised platform to another.
Points are awarded according to the amount of time it takes a contestant to complete the obstacle course, from fastest time to slowest time:
Here’s how your character’s abilities, skills, and proficiencies—along with your dice rolls—will be used to generate a score for your character in the obstacle course contest:
You will make three rolls: Athletic (STR), Acrobatics (DEX), and Intelligence (be sure to include any modifiers)
Add the results of all three rolls together; then subtract that total from 100.
For those of you who prefer mathematical language, the process looks like this:
100 – (Athletics check + Acrobatics check + INT check) = seconds to complete obstacle course
Any two players or NPC’s who are tied and finish in the top three will compete again to break the tie.

The final competitor for the obstacle course, Alora Brightwell, flies through the crowd and successfully completes the course in 56 seconds. So, the final results for this particular event are as follows:
OBSTACLE COURSE RESULTS
1st place: Morindak the dwarf (40 seconds) is awarded 50 points and a Rope of Climbing
2nd place: Alora Brightwell (56 seconds) is awarded 45 points and 100 gold pieces
3rd place: Arissa Antal (57 seconds) is awarded 40 points and 50 gold pieces
4th place: Kurt Stoneseeker (57 seconds) is awarded 35 points
5th place: Xellos Mazoku & Frandal Silvereyes (58 seconds) are each awarded 27.5 points
7th place: Garrett Goodbarrel (61 seconds) is awarded 20 points
8th place: Jerrick (65 seconds) is awarded 15 points
9th place: Gohdrin Ray (67 seconds) is awarded 10 points
10th place: Indira (74 seconds) is awarded 5 points
After completing the obstacle course, the contestants and the spectators are informed by the Talisten guards that the next event (knife throwing) will be the last event of the day. The final three contests will be held tomorrow morning, followed by the awarding of the grand prizes to the top three tournament competitors. The sun has begun to drop low in the sky, a cold evening sea breeze is blowing on-shore, and your stomachs are telling you the time for food and drink is fast approaching.
You approach the knife-throwing area and wait your turn while a few other competitors get started.
KNIFE THROWING
Each contestant will throw five knives at his or her choice of targets, all of which are 20’ away, and will be awarded points based on the number and size of the target he or she successfully hits.
Each target has a point value that is based upon the size of the target:
Here’s how your character’s abilities, skills, and proficiencies—along with your dice rolls—will be used to generate a score for your character in the knife-throwing contest:
Just like the archery contest, you will roll 1d20, add your character’s DEX modifier, and your proficiency modifier if your character is proficient with simple weapons or the dagger.
You will then choose which target or targets to aim for. There’s definitely some strategy involved. Should you aim at the targets that are worth fewer points but are statistically easier to hit? Or should you aim at the high point targets that are much harder to hit? Here are the die rolls needed to hit each target:
To hit the scarecrow: 6 or higher
To hit the hay bale: 10 or higher
To hit the pumpkin: 14 or higher
To hit the apple: 17 or higher
You must declare your target BEFORE you roll the d20.
You may throw multiple knives at the same target.
You may not want to place all five rolls of the dice in the same post. If you’d prefer, you may make five separate posts with each post containing its own role (this will allow you to see your previous roll adjust your target strategy if necessary.
After each of the five dice rolls, add up the point values for all targets you successfully hit. This will be your total score for this contest.
Players and NPCs who are tied will break the tie by taking turns throwing knives at the apple. The first one to hit the apple is the winner.
Final throw: apple 9 (missed target, 0 points earned)
Jerrick nearly wounds a member of the Talisten guard with one of his errant throws. He tries very hard to smile and remain lighthearted about his dismal score: 0 points.
Garrett Goodbarrel steps forward to the cheers and applause of a half-dozen halfling friends and family members. "Knock 'em dead, Uncle Garrett!" cries out a young halfling male.
First throw: scarecrow 11(success, 3 points earned)
Second throw: hay bale 13(success, 6 points earned)
Third throw: pumpkin 5 (missed target, 0 points earned)
The halfling children go wild when Garrett's final throw cleanly splits the apple in two. Garrett finishes the knife-throwing contest with a total of 21 points.
Xellos bids him a farewell and says, "Well, Kurt you and your gnome friend have more patience than me. I may have incinerated that Kord fellow. The name is Xellos. Pleased to meet you both."
