Xellos' fireball brings the wight to its fiery death. Likewise, Frandal's first arrow drops the last skeleton. Silverthread Bridge has been completely recaptured. To the west, you can see the structures on Old Ward Island are all ablaze, and silhouetted to the north of the island is the horde of undead that still occupy that bridge. Directly to the north of where you stand, you can see the northern half of the city of Talisten, and, for now, things seem relatively quiet.
Bharash's voice, telepathically, breaks in. "Things are grim in the northern part of the city, especially near the North Gate. All guards have been slaughtered. I see none alive. I stand atop the roof of The Singing Fire."
Sariel then, telepathically, responds. "The bear-like monsters are approaching Flannervy's...I will...Arconius! By Solinari's wand, I see him!"
Kurt wipes his sword clean, with a cloak laying on the ground, looks around. "Is every one ok?" Kurt sheaths his swords and Nods to everyone, "to Flannervy's I guess"
The Chancellor, responding to Xellos' command, nods his head vigorously and runs off. You can hear his voice trailing off as he heads southward: "I shall speak with the guards at Fisherman's Gate..." He then disappears into the darkness.
Flannervy's is a short distance to the east , and you can reach it in a minute's time. As you speed toward whatever awaits you there, Kempis yells out, "Friends of Syndaris, these guards and I will hold this bridge. Run fast and fight well!"
You cross the open space of Tournament Square, where just a week ago you competed in the Tournament of Talisten, and you then reach the crossroads where Flannervy's Tavern stands. Initially you see nothing as you approach the area, but after looking north you see the two bear-like creatures to which Sariel referred. They stand facing you; flames swirl around their feet and pour forth from their mouths. Their eyes glow like hot coals, and they are roughly 100' away from you. Additionally, you see the motionless silhouette of a body lying on the ground between the creatures (see map below) You have the feeling that these two monsters are watching over something they have just killed. You see no other creatures. No wights, no skeletons, no citizens of Talisten, and, seemingly, no Windhovers.
Everyone:
Please roll twice. The first is a Perception check; the second is initiative. I will advance the story only after everyone has done so.
You are certain that, for a moment, you saw the silhouette of a creature other than the two bear monsters. The bears' flaming mouths and feet give off just enough light to illuminate the area close to them, and it was this light that allowed you momentarily to see the third creature, a medium-sized humanoid, that stood behind the bears. Was it a guard? Was it Arconius? Was it a skeleton or a wight? Was it someone else? You're not sure.
Everyone: The two bear-like monsters don't react to your presence; they see you but seem content to remain where they are for now.
“I am afraid not, at least not with my abilities. I can shoot the bears though, but I fear for the lying person. It could be Sariel and we must hurry to heal her.”
Everyone: As Kurt begins his approach toward the bear-like monsters, Bharash's voice is suddenly heard, telepathically, by each of you. "I can abandon the undead at the North Gate if I am needed elsewhere. Does anyone have anything to report?"
Kurt:
As you draw near to the two monsters, you notice two reddish-orange points of light at eye-level. Judging how far away these lights are proves to be very difficult, however, You're confident they are somewhere behind the two monsters, but just how far behind you cannot tell. The light from the monsters' flaming claws and mouths help you to gain a better view of the body that lies on the ground. It is Sariel.
Everyone: You hear words uttered by a deep, raspy, unfamiliar voice. You do not recognize the language, but can sense the evil intent within it. One of the monsters, seemingly in response to what was spoken, begins to lumber toward Kurt. It covers a distance of 40'; so it now stands just 20' away from Kurt, and approximately 60' from Xellos, Ozum, Frandal, and Arissa.
Would the evil voice fall under the languages that Xellos speaks? Deep Speech and Infernal being two of them.
Xellos says telepathically, "There are two bear-like monsters and something evil commanding them. We need help identifying who or what it is Bharash, and quick before they eat Kurt for lunch."
OOC: Just to speed things up a little since it's been 2 days, could we possibly roll Initiative/Perception for Arissa to see how we're going to handle the situation?
"My words can heal, if needs be." Arissa says, struggling to keep up with the more nimble members of the party.
