Let's see what ability scores I get (reroll 1s always, if total of all six is <70, then start over): 171711131314
Name: Eithne Ni Yellywelyn
Race: Dusk Elf
Class: Barbarian
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Background: Haunted One
Brief Public Backstory: Long long time ago, the dusk elf maiden Eithne refused the offers of love from a powerful magic-user who really had an obsession with her. Her rejected lover took revenge by turned her into a statue: the last words that Eithne had heard were: "Since your heart remains of stone, I will give you an existence that is entirely suitable for you!" Eithne doesn't know why, much much later, the spell breaks. Is it perhaps a whim of the dark forces that dominate Ravenloft? Or... or have been the voices that have finally succeeded in that? Yes, the voices... for Eithne hears voices in her mind. So many voices. Voices of female dusk elf. Her voices tell her that they are the female dusk elf slaughtered by Stradh. Eithne learns that a very long time has passed and that now she is the only female dusk elf left alive! Strahd had all the female dusk elves put to death around four centuries ago as a punishment! Horrified by the Count's cruelty and forced to be wary of members of his own kind (what would they do to her if they discovered her? Would they keep her prisoner as their only hope of not extinguishing the race? They would hand her over to the Count to please him and allow him to complete what had begun?) Eithne is forced to begin a wandering existence, but she also matures the decision to make the Count pay at all costs for what he has done! And there's not a day that the voices in her mind don't remind her of this.
What did you roll on the Trinket chart (assuming you want a trinket)? Do you want an exclusive Barovian trinket? No thanks
Backstory: Being young and considered different and talkative for her kind, she left to seek adventure instead of the peaceful valleys in which she was born and raised. knowing Elenore is destined for a story of her own.
There are so many really strong pitches here. So many really good potential stories. I'm going to have a very tough time choosing. I have reached out to some of you with questions and I'll likely reach out to the many of the rest of you over the weekend. I'll make final decisions on Monday and we'll start next week. Deadline to join is still midnight tonight, so get something up if you are interested. One post will get you into the mix.
Also, you can arrange your attributes as you like.
Brief Public Backstory: Elisabeta was born and raised in Vallaki but as she was growing up she never really felt as though she really fitted in there. Her mother was a town guard and her father was a smith; while her mother wanted her to follow in her footsteps and become a guard as well, her father told her that she should listen to her heart and let it decided what path to go down. Although it disappointed her mother she took her father's advice and for roughly three years she worked alongside her father, hoping that it would help her feel as though she finally belonged. However near the end of her third year working alongside her father she noticed that he was acting strangely and decided to call it quits, that night she decided to follow after him half hoping that she'd imagined what had happened earlier. As he rushed past the Blue Water Inn she realized that it hadn't just been her imagination and she started to worry that he was up to something and when she finally noticed where he was headed she cursed to herself. She watched quietly as her father walking towards Wachterhaus before quickly turning around and running. While she was running home to grab somethings that she thought would be useful for what she planned to do the next she told herself to write a note for her parents and two letters for her friends explaining why she was leaving the town. After grabbing some supplies and leaving the note for her parents she said her goodbyes to her younger brother and sister then she headed to the Blue Water Inn to deliver her letters and to spend the night, not wanting to have her mother try and talk her out of it. As she was on her way to the Blue Water Inn she kept telling herself that she was doing the right thing by leaving even though she would be leaving behind her family and the very few friends she had. She left one letter with the Martikovs and she left the other at the table where the Wachter brothers would normally sit.
In the morning as Elisabeta was going to leave she was stopped by the town guards stationed at the gate, thinking that she had done something wrong she started to panic in her mind but she did her best to keep a calm expression on her face. When they asked her if her mother had returned home after her patrol the evening before she felt her heart sink. Having explained that she herself hadn't been home she couldn't help but wonder if her mother had left town to search for her. After a their conversation the guards let her leave after she told them that she'd go look for her, even though she wasn't entirely sure which way she could have gone. Although there is no proof that something bad had happened to her there was a part of Elisabeta's mind that said that her mother was likely injured or worse. Another part of her feared that her mother had run into Count von Zarovich and had been taken to the castle because she'd been out looking for her. If that was indeed the case then she would have to put her fears aside and go rescue her mother before she became yet another victim.
His father, a soulless orc, rare. His mother, a soulless human, not as rare. They raised him on the outskirts of Villaki, in a small hut and it was clear that he had a soul. But his house was burned to the ground, along with both his parents, when he was very young. So he set out, and eventually found his unofficial family, one of the few made entirely of humans with souls. They taught him music and the joys of traveling just to travel and how to stay safe, and when he came of age he inherited his father's flute and did just that. He spent his years as a traveling bard until he found a half-orc woman he loves and settled down with her. They bore three children, two daughters and a son. The son had a particular penchant for magic---surely from his mother---but that didn't stop him from trying to teach the lad music. Now he's starting to come of age himself and after a terrifying stint in vampirism, Bromur decided it was time to teach him how to survive on his own in this cruel world before he leaves the nest for good. And, if they cross paths with the cursed Count while they're at it, so be it; it'll just be an opportunity to give him the beating of his life for messing with his son.
I'd like a Barovian trinket please! I rolled a 46 on the trinket table.
Backstory: Morzan is a 16 year old draconic sorcerer. He was born into a family of half-orcs, and continuously has to put up with his bard father (Who loves making dad jokes all the time). Upon discovering his gift, Morzan looked for ways to use, and strengthen it. He is self taught, learning mostly from tomes, though he has had occasional lessons from other mages.
Seeing his potential, one of Straud's minions, who happened to be another draconic sorcerer, brought the boy to the count's attention. With Straud's blessing, the sorcerer visited Morzan and asked him to become his apprentice. Thrilled, Morzan accepted. He had never met another of draconic heritage before, and would not let the opportunity to train with one pass him by. Little did he know, the mage was actually trying to recruit him into Straud's army (or whatever group he'd fit into). A few days after he started training, the sorcerer, who (surprise) was a vampire, bit him. Shocked, Morzan didn't wait to listen to the mage's lecture on the benefits of working for Straud, instead he ran home as fast as he could.
After some time, his family was able to gather enough money and find someone who could remove the curse. Morzan still has PTSD. He hates Straud for sending that man to him, and would do anything to get back at him.
His mother. His sister. Every female Dusk elf had been murdered by the monster. Even the infants in their cribs. (OOC: Per the wiki. There was speculation the male elves had been neutered)
Cold revenge. It didn't matter the cost, His life. Others. As long as the vampire was permanently slain.
(OOC: I'm thinking of a necromancer backup character if that's allowed. And 81 for a Barovian trinket)
I’m going to do a Monk, but will get back with race and backstory shortly.
Name: Lucian
Race: Dusk Elf
Class: Monk
Background: Urchin
Brief Public Backstory: Lucian has no memory of his family or where he came from. All he knows is that his life is difficult. He's been in Vallaki for as long as he can remember, roaming the streets and taking whatever kindness he can from the locals. When he was in his teens, he managed to find himself a teacher, who taught him how to defend himself. He could never afford a weapon, so his hands were the best he had. Slowly, he managed to start a life for himself in the town, but he still wondered where he really came from. Who were his parents? Are they still alive? Why did they leave him in Vallaki? Perhaps he would find answers if he struck out on his own... His ideas of adventure were put on hold when his teacher suddenly went missing. Lucian doesn't know for sure, but he has a feeling it had something to do with the cursed vampire...Strahd. His teacher had always hated Count von Zarovich, perhaps his words had finally caught up to him. Now, Lucian is once more ready to set out...if he can only find a group of people who would be willing to travel with him.
Thank you to everyone to applying. It was a very difficult decision to choose who to add to the campaign. You all had so many good ideas. I would be happy to play a game with any of you. But for now, the players have been chosen and contacted. Thanks again for making the decision-making really difficult.
