Both creatures chitter in unison, but the one holding Chlorys seems significantly less addled by Camus' spell, though Chlorys' also does a number on it. Bard rushes forward and tries to pull Chlorys out, but does not manage to get her out of the insect's jaws.
Both creatures clamp down their jaws, dealing 7 piercing and 3 acid damage to Chlorys and 7 piercing and 1 acid damage to Camus. Camus' stays put, meaning the skeletal mage is still mostly above the surface, but Chlorys is dragged down another 5 feet, and is fully submerged under the ground. She can still see the light throug the top of the tunnel, but someone would have to reach into the tunnel to grab her.

Seeing Chlorys dragged below ground, Camus realizes that there is no time left to lose! With his reaction, he will cast Absorb Elements (gaining resistance to Acid damage... which I assume will reduce the 1 point of Acid damage to 0 by means of rounding down, but that's not really why he's doing it).
With his actual turn, Camus uses his bonus action to command the skeleton to take the Help action. The lich then lays his hands on the insectoid creature that is trying to devour him, and lets necromantic energy flow through him. Power shimmers around his hands, as he casts Inflict Wounds at third level
Attack: 21 Damage: 29
Add 3 to the attack roll from Von's Bless
Add 1 Acid damage from Absorb Elements

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
(Skeleton was helping Camus with his attack by distracting the bug-thing/poking it with the spear to divert its attention while Camus does his necro-hands)

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Camus' minion is able to distract the burrowing monster enough for Camus himself to reach down the thing's throat and blast it full of necromantic energy. It shudders as black pus leaks from its compound eyes, and the digestive juice that leaks from its mouth putrefies and rots in a second. At last it lays still, its jaw slackening, and Camus is able to escape. His robe, however, is very much stained with black slime and ash, what remains of the beast's hollowed out maw.
Camus pulls himself out of the rotting mess that was until a few seconds ago a living, breathing creature as the power of Grim Harvest allows the mage to absorb the animal's life energy into him. Arcane symbols etched into his bones glow a sickly green color underneath the cocoon of bandages hiding his skeletal face. Anyone listening can hear the soft sounds of cracks and pops as ancient brittle bones knit themselves back together and/or snap back into their sockets (because he killed the bug with a Necromancy spell cast at third level, he regains 9 HP from Grim Harvest).

Chlorys' frantic strumming as she is dragged further underground causes the monster the slow, and then finally stop. Its jaw goes slack, and Chlorys is able to clamber out of them and surface, albeit much dirtier. The hole still remains, but looks unstable. It will likely collapse soon, protecting the sleeping creature with dirt, unless something is done about it.
Bard chooses to be something. He reaches down into the hole, and with long arms manages to grab hold of the creature. It takes him around thirty seconds, but he slowly extracts its cockroach-like body from the ground. He sets it on the ground, and gestures to the other adventurers. "Destroy it," he says. "I must do something."
Bard then turns to Camus, still recovering from his tussle with the beast, though newly invigorated. He walks steadily toward him, and without altering his pace effortlessly picks the wizard up by his collar, raising him a solid five feet into the air. He then turns to Chlorys once she has recovered from the insect's attack, and does the same. His face is as expressionless as ever as he speaks. "You. Leper and elf. You sent that man to die. Why."
(You may choose to oppose the grapple if you like, but... well, I may or may not have gotten a nat 19 and nat 20. I'm rolling surprisingly well for everything except for the monsters' actual attacks. Like, seriously, I rolled a nat 20 for stealth, and a nat 20 against Camus' spell, and now another nat 20.)

"If you'll put me down, I can show you..." Camus says. "The 'man' was created by a spell to act as a guardian... the same as the second 'man' standing a few feet away from us with a spear."
Camus suddenly has another idea... but he'll probably need some help from Chlorys to sell it.
"Bruil sent them with us... probably just as much to remind us what he could have done to us as for additional security."
"I can't say much about the situation either, but we were told to take any means necessary to protect.... well whatever it is Bruil's after. He gave us use of the skeleton, criminals we supposed." Chlorys is using her help action and also casting bardic inspiration as the bonus action on Camus to help sell his lie
Bard stays still for a moment. He then sets the two magic-users down. “Okay. You have betrayed my trust. I will remember.” He turns, and begins to move back to the wagon, where Drake lies hiding. “I am no longer useful here. Those of you with healing ability should tend to the wagon. I will conclude my watch.”

Shucks sorry about that. Misunderstood. The guardians disappear and Von casts a 1st level Bless. (add a d4 roll to your attack/saving throws)

Camus sighs... he's too tired to tell a lie as the brute of a man takes hold of him.
"The man wasn't alive to begin with," Camus says. "What was 'killed' was simply a shell filled with magic."
